According to these guidelines rape should be 4 – 19 years’ custody. So this means for 2 rapes he's getting two absolute minimum terms, which seems excessivly lenient consider he's got two rapes under his belt already.

The Guardian helpfully tells us that he was still a man when he raped those two women.

So the BBC will misgender when it suits them? How absurd.

Reading the articles I think everyone should be referring to him as Adam Bryson. Although I can understand that, for ease of recognition, people will remember the name Isla Bryson. And it also clearly underlines the ridiculousness of the whole thing.

It should have been a longer sentence considering past crimes, I expect this will be extended.

What I don't understand is why him and others (there's more) are not sent to psychiatric care rather than general population prison??

And, I don't actually mean cos he is trans, as that wouldn't mean a de facto reason, but paedophiles also that are sent to prison, why aren't they sent to psychiatric hospital?

I’m not against genuine trans people but only a man can rape someone using their penis. Only a man.

8 years for TWO tapes is woefully inadequate.

This man is clearly dangerous to women and to think he could be out in four years is wrong imo.
He was certainly dangerous to Nicola sturgeon.

The short answer is because being an arsehole isn't a mental illness. And there isn't any treatment that can cure being an arsehole.

The slightly longer version is that it doesn't appear that he had any diagnosed mental health conditions that would have affected his judgement when he committed the rapes.

Yes, I agree, but judges can't always give the sentence they might think appropriate, because a longer sentence can be appealed. They follow sentencing guidelines and give similar terms to those given for similar offences, with any mitigation taken into account.

If he'd been give 12 years, he may well have appealed and got less than what he has now.
