There have been discussions about the book on different threads relating to various interviews with Barnes or pieces about the book. Thought it would be useful to bring everything on to one thread.

This review by Sarah Ditum is excellent and very moving:

Another good one from Suzanne Moore:

He is Barry Wall on you tube as The Court of the EDI Jester.

Psychotherapist Stella O'Malley reviewed the book for The Sunday Independent in Ireland:

A modern medical scandal: What really went wrong at the UK’s controversial Tavistock gender clinic?

She also published the full piece on her Substack newsletter.

EpicChaos · 20/02/2023 17:29

@endofthelinefinally cheers! I'll take a look at his channel.

WarriorN · 23/02/2023 12:09

My copy is apparently on its way

TheBiologyStupid · 23/02/2023 12:17

Just bought the Kindle edition (easier to mark up and copy-and-paste from).

ResisterRex · 23/02/2023 12:18

Mine too. And it was reviewed in Private Eye but you'll have to buy it to read it! One thing that stuck out was (I paraphrase)

Even if you've been keeping track, this book will still hit you hard.

Which was something I wondered, as sometimes you forget parts of what's gone on, then the part you forget will pop up and you can't believe you forgot it, it was so shocking.

theveg · 23/02/2023 13:52

Mine has arrived

WarriorN · 23/02/2023 17:03

💚🤍💜

Still waiting here....

Birdsweepsin · 23/02/2023 22:07

Mine came today. Just a couple of chapters in and ... it's brilliant. Fair and even handed, forensic and devastating. I can't put it down.

Hannah Barnes in The Times today archive.is/BiCny

Well done Swift Publishing 👏👏

@MNHQ - Not sure what happened to my previous comment

Thank you so much for the link. Her tenacity and bravery are very much to be admired. (I do also wonder if Swift knew how well Helen Joyce's book was received and did too.)

I remember Stella O Malley being shocked at similar responses when she made her channel 4 documentary. The "making of" documentary they did afterwards was as interesting and scary as the original. A producer saying that he'd had more willingness to talk from both sides of Israel/ Palestine than he'd seen around trans medical care for children.

I still cannot get my head around how and why people cannot think critically and see the harm and idiocy with unquestioningly affirming children and handing out horrific drugs like sweets.

It's going to be a long road gathering evidence but it's the only way it can work.

Well, shame on those publishers.

I really hope Hannah has the final laugh here. I loved the photo of her with Justin Webb (he’s not afraid of being “cancelled”).

This has reminded me to order the book. Thank you!

RoyalCorgi · 27/02/2023 08:25

Interesting to see the pic of Justin Webb at the launch! Good for him.

Idiotic of those publishers to turn it down, though. The book has had nothing but excellent reviews, and I think in future it will be seen as having played a major part in exposing a medical scandal, much like the Sunday Times's role in Thalidomide.

I’m about halfway through Time To Think, and the words that keep springing to mind are “incredible!” and “unbelievable!” but of course it’s all too credible and believable, having worked in the NHS for 35 years. Have to keep putting it down and doing a killer sudoku to process what I’m reading.

My post about Hadley Freeman's great article in The Times about the fall of censorship has been captured by the MNHQ algorithm - but check out on archive dot is.

WarriorN · 05/03/2023 07:23

According to Private Eye, books by women that question gender ideology, such as Material Girls by Kathleen Stock and Trans by Helen Joyce, were similarly rejected by every publisher but one — and then went on to sell by the truckload. By contrast, the trans activist Munroe Bergdorf had 11 publishers fighting to publish her memoir, Transitional, and got a six-figure deal. A week after it was published last month, it was at No 2,838 in the Amazon charts.

<snort>

Thanks for the share!

theveg · 05/03/2023 07:29

I'm halfway through too. Just read fairly jaw dropping section on the over representation of gay and autistic children.

Love Hadleys's article too!

WarriorN · 05/03/2023 07:47

Mine did actually come when I was moaning that it hadn't but I hadn't heard the postman!

Getting brain back after covid infection before tackling.

The massive irony also being I was prescribed testosterone the same week as it was released which may be giving me the concentration to actually have enough concentration to read a serious book like this. That that place wanted to inhibit the natural brain boosting hormones of children is is beyond horrific.

TheBiologyStupid · 05/03/2023 11:21

That's a good article by Hadley - fingers crossed that she is right about the "vibe shift".
