There have been discussions about the book on different threads relating to various interviews with Barnes or pieces about the book. Thought it would be useful to bring everything on to one thread.

This review by Sarah Ditum is excellent and very moving:

Another good one from Suzanne Moore:

No copies in Windsor again and no click and collect possible. 3 copies "on order but can't say when they'll arrive"

And yes to the MB book with the shelf blurb. I read a bit of it waiting for DH and i feel very sorry for MB but I don't care how tough growing up as a camp mixed race gay boy is - it doesn't make MB female or a woman.

The Anderson image upthread is extremely useful to shoot down twats who proclaim the book is biased and transphobic.

Thanks @fabricstash

I listened to Hannah's podcast interview with Chris Williamson on Modern Wisdom. I thought it was excellent.

Marci Bowers now doubling down?

That final sentence of Sarah Ditum's piece says it all for me:

'The tragedy of a misogynistic world is that it makes girls believe they need a cure for femaleness. The scandal of GIDS is that it pretended it could supply one.'

gosh that's one to remember thanks

If anyone is in London, Hannah Barnes is doing a couple of talks in May, hosted by universities: LSE on 23rd, and UCL on 25th. Both are open to the public but spaces are limited and you need to register. Details on her Twitter feed.

Oh gawd, bet the protestors will be out in intimidating belligerent force for those.

Needmoresleep · 28/04/2023 19:47

Hmmm, so the LSE event is hybrid: both in person and on line. You need to register for the on-line. They also suggest that it will be streamed live on YouTube.

The in-person will not be ticketed. They suggest that they don’t ticket in person events where they don’t expect much demand, but to check back later to see if arrangements change. My assumption is that they will discover that the event is contentious, because obviously a critique of an NHS service that might be harming children is contentious, and switch to on-line only, because they don’t have the security to handle a problem audience.

Its fine. They will advertise it worldwide via their alumni and other networks. It is free to register for the online version. It will be on YouTube under the LSE brand and available as a resource.

Slothtoes · 29/04/2023 08:21

That’s absolutely brilliant that each of these universities are hosting this. And absolutely brilliant that there will be an online record of it available to the public forever. It’s all true and evidenced so TRAs will absolutely hate all those facts and concerns being raised in public. Once we can get back to dealing in facts and evidenced outcomes for young people, those facts are never going to be on their side.

Needmoresleep · 29/04/2023 09:48

Yes. The UCL event seems to be hosted by a specific group within UCL (UCL women's liberation). The LSE one, usefully, seems to be organised by their Public Policy Department and is part of the LSE's well regarded public lecture series.

(Generally worth getting on the LSE mailing list as they host a varied range of interesting public talks. And also a way of allowing teenagers who are interested in studying social science a taste of some of the topics involved.)

Time to Think has been nominated for the Orwell Prize.

In related news, i saw it prominently displayed at eye level in non fiction in Waterstones in Knutsford this week.

Excellent news - thanks!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 11/05/2023 22:20

That's great news. It's such an important expose of the carnage that masquerades as healthcare for vulnerable, mentally unwell children.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 12/05/2023 11:22

Here’s the relevant info re: the new referrals & waiting list management, commissioned by NHSE.

It’s called ‘CYP-GD’ (presumably stands for ‘Children & Young People - Gender Dysphoria?)

Great! I hope it wins many awards, it’s so very readable and a really important book. It’s “peaked” several people I know.

WarriorN · 06/09/2023 12:51

Wonderful!

The clinic in Newcastle recently closed to new patients

Richie Herron's area.

Incidentally it also links professionals to WPATH on its website. Forensic research by Genderwang.

I really hope that her book wins and is widely read by those that need to.

That book is and could be more of an absolute turning point
