I mean, I rarely have conversations about menstruation. What’s there to say? What’s there to leave someone out of?

I genuinely believe we'll see 'transabled' people before too long, who will rail at all of the bigoted somethingorotherophobes (i.e. genuinely disabled people) for selfishly and arrogantly trying to keep the things they actually can't do to themselves - denying the inclusive people who fancy a day or two at identifying themselves as needing a wheelchair - and make accessible facilities 'all about them'.

Unfortunately I think this is already happening. I seem to remember seeing an article about a man( possibly from a Scandinavian country) who identifies as disabled and uses a wheelchair.

toomanycoffees · 07/02/2023 19:18

Very glad to say I'm done with periods and don't give a hoot Grin

Violinist64 · 07/02/2023 19:19

Well if men would like to have periods with all the mess, pain (at times) and expense they cause they are welcome to them. I’m glad mine finished years ago. Just when we think we couldn’t get any more stupid articles, another one comes along that is even dafter.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 07/02/2023 19:19

Yet again, 'sex' and 'gender' are two completely different concepts when it suits them to 'educate' people; but they're effectively the same thing when that suits their arguments. So much dissonance and blatant attempts to deceive.

Always4Brenner · 07/02/2023 19:19

Thank god I’m finished now with periods and Menopause as well 10 years of hell with that one. They can have the pain I suffered from day one of periods gladly. Ffs 🤦‍♀️ I give up I simply give up now.

Soulstirring · 07/02/2023 19:20

it’s clearly just goady. There is nothing remotely correct about what’s said.

ComfortablyDazed · 07/02/2023 19:20

Qhite why transmen desperately want to be included in a conversation about something so inherently female, beats me.

Surely it’s massively triggering, and they would just do something really simple and effective - like, I dunno, utilise one of the many easily available and effective means of stopping their period altogether………..? Confused

midgetastic · 07/02/2023 19:21

I mean I guess we are at a impasse

Sone people are offended if the word woman only refers to sex , so transmen
Are women

I am deeply upset and offended if people use the word to imply anything else about me- that I am gender woman

Why should the first group of people get a different level of respect than I do?

ditalini · 07/02/2023 19:23

Can we fucking ban the use of the word "nuanced" now? Yes, it can be a fairly useful term but its use as a virtue-signalling way of pretending a topic that is not complicated is complicated has ruined it for me forever.

Only females have periods. Oscar self-excludes from the "conversation" (what conversation?) on the basis of their personal belief system. That's their choice, not a nuanced feature of the reproductive system.

StalkedByASpider · 07/02/2023 19:28

Oh hold on - is this Modi Bodi?

If so, they've proven before that they're a bunch of complete fucking arseholes when it comes to women and women's language.

They're already on my veto list. There's a thread on here somewhere before about them. I complained to them at the time and they didn't give a fuck.

EndlessTea · 07/02/2023 19:29

I hate the word nuance too. It’s a smug twat’s word.

mrshoho · 07/02/2023 19:29

The trans train wagon want everyone on board saying men have periods too. It is nuts and deeply confusing.

Why cant they just say transmen can also have periods. To me that is acceptable and expecting everyone to repeat an untruth.

mrshoho · 07/02/2023 19:31
  • not expecting

I got this reply from them in 2021 when there was a real outcry on here about their language. I sent them the link and told them to have a bloody good read of what women felt about their language (basically they were happy to say men and male but weren't using the words women/woman/girl/female).

I've copied and pasted in case you can't read the screenshot. Basically, they don't give a shit what women think:

*"Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us to share your concerns and to share the mumsnet link with us.

After reviewing all of our customer feedback received across socials, mumsnet, and emails, our CEO and Founder, Kristy Chong, has provided the following statement:

Modibodi strives to be inclusive of all bodies and all leaks be it periods, pee, perspiration, or pregnancy. We refer to both women and girls with periods and ‘people who menstruate’ at Modibodi and we stand by our position to use ‘people who menstruate” because we always strive to be as inclusive as possible in our communication language to avoid gender-biased expressions or expressions that reinforce gender stereotypes.

Modibodi’s purpose is to create limitless positive impact on people and our planet whilst normalising conversations around periods, leaks, diversity and inclusiveness. What’s required now, is a community who works together to remove the shame and stigma associated with periods, and the encouragement of healthy and open conversations.

We acknowledge language around gender identity is constantly evolving, and we’re open to learning, and value our community feedback about our language choices and how they make them feel."*

Periods are sexed.
There are some 'gendered' forms of discrimination women are subjected to because of periods - being barred from some places of worship or sent out into huts for the duration.

That's how sex and 'gender' actually relate to each other.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/02/2023 19:46

And I can bet if a 'nonbinary' female or transman has a period in certain societies, they're liable to be subjected to the same gendered discrimination as other females regardless of how they may 'identify'.

Happylittlechicken · 07/02/2023 19:50

So if a girl in Nepal decided to ‘identify as a man’, what are the odds she’d still be sent to the menstruation huts every month. Just shows this whole periods are gender less crap for the bullshit it is. Of course they’re genderless, biology doesn’t give a crap about your ‘identity’ ,just your sex.

Ermmmmmmm · 07/02/2023 19:52

Watch the video.

I strongly object to “bad actors” declaring themselves to be trans to get into women’s prisons. However, I work sometimes with students who think their gender is not the same as their sex, and I think this could be helpful for them.

They may well change their minds as they get older.

saleorbouy · 07/02/2023 20:23

Why can't we just carry on as we did previously why must we change our language and label ourselves differently just to accommodate the 0.02% of society who wish to transition.
I respect their decision but it's a personal one, why should it affect others who are happy within our sexuality and gender.

I think there should be better gate keeping, information and counselling around cross sex hormones, so people are prepared for all the awkward situations they are going to face for doing this to themselves. It’s a matter for the individuals administering the drugs and those taking them. It’s their responsibility.

You are proving the point in the post! In the menstruation huts would be men and women. Menstruation extends to people with female biology who identify as men. That's what it's saying.

nepeta · 07/02/2023 20:48

Nobody asked the vast majority of people if they would be fine with 'woman' suddenly not having anything to do with being of the female sex. There is no earthly reason to have preferred pronouns and all the rest of that crap if the groups they define have to do with nothing but personality types, dress and so on, and sexism and misogyny will not budge, but will keep aiming at those of us who belong to the sex from which all people capable of menstruating come.

I am angry at the way my whole self-definition, and my ability to do feminism, are to be scrapped so that a very tiny minority can choose theirs without any consideration to the facts that it is the society which ultimately determines who are to be treated as women and who as men. This is insult on top of injury.

Oh but you’re missing the point. It’s ALL ABOUT Oscar.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 07/02/2023 21:31

What a load of absolute shite. If they had ever experienced periods they wouldn't fucking want them that's for sure. Also they are directly linked with pregnancy.. which they also can't do.

Ok let’s put it another way, if a girl in Afghanistan ‘identified as a man’ would she be allowed to go to school? Girls in Nepal aren’t allowed to ‘identify as men’ either. If a girl in Uganda ‘identifies as a man’ does she escape FGM? They’re still married off at 10. It only seems to be white middle class women and girls who have the time or energy to worry about ‘identity’.
