I'm pretty sure that once you add up post menopausal women, pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women and any women using hormonal contraception which suppresses their ovulation, most women do not in fact currently menstruate. We need a term which is inclusive of all adult human females.

Yes, I read a statistics on that somewhere. Only a minority of women (females of any age rather) are within the menstruating bracket in any given period (pun not intended) because of age, sexual maturity, pregnancy etc.

Anyway.

What a load of shite to say periods are genderless!

Tell that to my non-verbal child who now is getting periods but have no concept of what either sex or gender is.
Despite this, should a male force himself on her she may now still become pregnant despite her being a tween.

This twisting and turning of language has consequences, as the dire situation with rapists in Scottish female prisons has shown with abundant clarity - 10 years overdue!

I did not pay attention. To my shame. Wanted to be kind. Was busy not being killed by my then partner (male) and afterwards salvaging the wreckage for my children.
No excuse really, but when I did start to pay attention the massive problems were screaming in my face, precisely because of my experiences as a woman.

I don’t like all women. Very few, in fact. I certainly don’t agree with all of them - again, very few. But we share a biology that makes us vulnerable in most human societies.
And periods are a big fucking deal to do with that.

What a strange human Oscar is.

ShreddBees · 10/02/2023 06:50

Oh and obviously we, a family with many females who have periods, will not be buying from ModiBodi. Stupid idiots.

Alwaysworryingoversomething · 10/02/2023 07:54

I just came here to see if anyone had written about this.
For god's sake.
It reminds me of when I realised I was not on side with the gender issue, being in a meeting at work where someone said "it's not just women who have babies"

(This was the result of a discussion about whether maternity leave should have its name changed).

This was years ago and there was very little GC talk at the time. I work in HE and genuinely felt I would face a disciplinary situation if I raised any objections. It's not much easier now but at least I know others feel the same.

You need to read the definition carefully iI think @babyjellyfish - you are still included.

Oscar was included in the first definition though so Oscar doesn't need to say Oscar did in this ad. You're saying that Oscar is both a woman and a man. In which case iblÿ women have periods.

babyjellyfish · 10/02/2023 10:14

Exactly, @howmanybicycles.

The word "woman", as per its original and primary meaning, is already inclusive of all adult human females, of which Oscar is one.

This is the case regardless of the fact that Oscar and some adult human females like Oscar have decided that they do not want the word "woman" to include them. What baffles me is why they now want us to come up with other words for "adult human female" and use them instead of "woman" so that they can be included. Either you want to be included, trans men and female "non binary people", or you don't. Which is it? Please make your minds up because this constant complaining about not being included within the existing language which you have unilaterally decided you don't want to include you is getting more than a little wearing.

It's not so hard to understand why some adult human males want us to use the word "woman" in a way that includes them. But I don't see any good reason why we should pander to them.

I'm glad you understood my autocorrected nonsense! And I completely agree.

It is so strange (not) that one of the functions of womanhood has been co-opted by these people.
And lets not try to pretend this is anything to do with FTM trans people, although there are a few exceptions.
This is everything to do with male born trans people attempting to blur the lines of sex.
Is is astounding the sheer number of these people who are all over social media talking about periods, how they can have periods, pms, pmt, cramps, talking about tampons and other sanitary products, talking about handing out these products, buying them, it just goes on.
It's not just Dylan Mulvaney, seriously, there are loads.

It does seem to be quite the obsession.
The recent "uterus transplant" story also covered the fact that trans women would not necessarily want to use their new body part to give birth, but that they would want to experience menstruation.
It does seem, in my opinion, to be the "thing that must not be named" on this site.
In fact, that's the very definition of it. An obsession with female form and function for various purposes. I obviously cant say much more than that.

Those women who are joining in with all this "periods are genderless" nonsense are just playing right into the hands of these males. Again, its NOTHING to do with female born trans people identifying as male who want gender neutral language around bodily functions.
It's EVERYTHING to do with male born trans people who want their (redacted word that cannot be said) satisfied.
