Being live streamed now. Anyone listening? They're explaining the gender critical movement to students. I won't link but she's making them giggle a lot by the sounds of things

Who’s Montgomerie?

DerekFaker · 27/01/2023 20:38

Gosh, that won't be biased at all.

BlackForestCake · 27/01/2023 20:38

A lunatic off Twitter who's giving some sort of talk about how men are women.

Helleofabore · 27/01/2023 20:42

I am sure it is a very balanced presentation.

IcakethereforeIam · 27/01/2023 21:07

Gosh, I'm willing to bet there are not GC feminists getting up to the shenanigans all to familiar at our meeting, talks, film showings, debates, lectures, homes, places of work......

PoliticalFootball · 27/01/2023 21:09

No surprises. The Q&A at end tightly controlled. A GC person was allowed to talk 'Sherrie'? was their name and ask a question but during their preamble attempted to counter some of KM's points and KM found it difficult not to interject and the majority of the audience did not like the GC person talking at all. A front row question from the trans man that I think organised the protest at the attempted showing of the Adult Human Female film at the Uni that was successfully cancelled. And of course 'Pickle' was there.

As I said, no surprises. And lots of photos of Poppy, KM's cat which made everyone go ahhhh.

But it happened and no one banned it.

Where were the violent masked protests and threats from evil GC wims, then?

Since both sides blah blah blah.

MorvenOfMalvern · 28/01/2023 08:47

Was it recorded at all?

FrancescaContini · 28/01/2023 08:49

I don’t understand the criteria for being accepted on a course at Edinburgh university. I was always under the impression that they only accept the brightest.

ExiledElsie · 28/01/2023 08:55

It's here for you to enjoy. The person introducing Montgomery starts at 29 mins.

I only watched a bit.

FrancescaContini · 28/01/2023 09:07

Thanks for the YouTube link. I got to the first slide used to introduce this person and it reads:

“Who the fuck are you?”

Not an impressive way to start a presentation.

Then after using the phrase GC once the person swaps to “transphobic”.

So I have seen enough. It’s clear it’s not going to be an insightful, nuanced talk but rather a sledgehammer. I would have expected more of talk aimed at Edinburgh undergrads.

WarriorN · 28/01/2023 09:09

So, no debate

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/01/2023 09:13

Obviously Montgomerie only went there to gloat that Montgomerie could have a misogynistic event there while women can't talk about women's rights without it being approved of by men.

FrancescaContini · 28/01/2023 09:16

WarriorN · 28/01/2023 09:09

So, no debate

No. I got strong vibes of “this is all about me, meeee, meeeeeeeee”. And the person announced that they enjoy arguing with people who disagree with them online.

As I said, a sledgehammer. A waste of three minutes of my life.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/01/2023 09:17

Brave of this person to ask questions in such a hostile environment. A woman?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/01/2023 09:18

No. I got strong vibes of “this is all about me, meeee, meeeeeeeee”.

You've summed up the entirety of Montgomerie's Twitter.

FrancescaContini · 28/01/2023 09:23

Beyond the sledgehammer approach, I just can’t listen to an adult who uses an expletive in a presentation slide. It makes me uncomfortable. Right there at the start, there’s a hint of anger and defensiveness. Very teenage rebellion.

Oh noes! !!! Did someone forget to send out the memo!

How very clear though that feminists don’t attempt to shut down these events, probably no one even raised an eye brow.

But of course, both sides!!

And women disagreeing with these people’s points are violent and wanting some kind of genocide… it is outstandingly dramatic and off the scale hyperbolic dishonesty.

Helleofabore · 28/01/2023 09:45

Good that Shereen was there. But yes, Montgomery talked over her. I assume it was Dr Shereen Benjamin???

And it is laughable really that it honestly didn’t occur to this group that they were responsible in part, or in most?, for blocking women speaking and yet, there they were- able to hold their event with no issue.

I wonder if it has sunk in yet. For all the talk of moral panic.

And hilarious to include an appeal to authority to Alison Phipps in that person’s introduction . Had Alison Phipps ever been able to adequately defend anything Alison writes on this topic?

Personally, I'm all for these events going ahead. As we've seen lately, there's no better way of getting the GC cause across than to let the TRAs put theirs.

Helleofabore · 28/01/2023 10:11

Absolutely.

I don’t think any feminists have protested one of these types of events, have they? And usually if one is held, feminists don’t disrupt either. Shereen tried to preface her questions and they shut her down. That might be considered out of order to preface her questions but it wasn’t hateful. She encouraged the people there to go and read the declaration and make up their own mind, because as usual Montgomerie misrepresented it they way they always do on twitter.

I encourage these events to happen.

MiaMoor · 28/01/2023 10:19

It should be balanced with GC talks though.
Edinburgh uni has a reputation for being a haven for TRAs, and lack of balance feeds this, especially for new students who start their uni days knowing full well that they can’t be GC, or if they are they do it in silence. (A friend’s dd is at Edinburgh uni)
As we all know silence is seen as acceptance.

PoliticalFootball · 28/01/2023 10:45

Thanks to whoever it was that suggested it was Dr Shereen Benjamin - it seemed as if she was an academic as she was very articulate - Montgomerie didn't seem in their natural habitat.

Phipp's writing is absolutely bonkers. I only have history a level and can dissect her leaps of fantasy and twists of historical "truth."

Glad Benjamin was there.

Monty was on the heterodoxx podcast and I attempted some of it. There's also a v same transwoman who runs that. They were clearly finding Monty's assertions extremely bullshitty.

I welcome more of this as it shows them up for the fools they are.

They're yet to actually debate mind you.

WarriorN · 28/01/2023 10:50

Dr Benjamin is excellent but has also been victim to university purging. She ran and taught the eyfs teacher training iirc, certainly primary (I know she was definitely good on early years.) But was taken off for questioning the sexist batshit woo woo. (I think. Probably more complex that that. Or not.)

Hoping someone can elaborate on my mumbling
