Love this woman, I nearly wish I lived in Scotland so I could vote for her

Fabulous!

This is council elections, though, isn't it, rather than Scottish Parliament or UK parliament? I wish someone like her would stand for MP

ArabellaScott · 27/01/2023 09:37

Brilliant. All power to your elbow. Or whatever other part of your anatomy provides the most oomph, in the circumstances.

All the best, I'd vote for you (it'd be nice to have someone I could vote for) but I'm hundreds of miles away.

It says in that screenshot that foreign nationals can vote if they're registered to do so.

And while voting in an election that doesn't affect me feels morally a bit off, responses to the GRA consultation in 2018 were accepted from all over the world IIRC?

NancyDrawed · 27/01/2023 09:39

2.5 Location of respondents
Respondents were asked to provide address details, including postcode, with the latter
used by GEO to match respondents to UK countries, providing a high-level breakdown
of respondent location. Based on this data, 73% of respondents were based in England,
6% in Scotland, 3% in Wales and 1% in Northern Ireland.
The remaining 17% of respondents could not be categorised by location. This consisted
of 13% of respondents who provided no location information at all, and 4% of
respondents who provided some address details but no valid UK postcode. Among this
latter category were international responses from a range of different countries around
the world. As the consultation was open to all views and perspectives, and not
necessarily limited to respondents in any particular country, these responses have been
included in the analysis, but a breakdown of responses by location is provided in Annex
B.

All power to your merkin! Thank you for standing up to women and girls. Wish I could vote for you!

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 27/01/2023 09:41

Yay!

Igneococcus · 27/01/2023 09:43

It says in that screenshot that foreign nationals can vote if they're registered to do so.

You still need to be an actual resident in that council though and on the electoral roll.
I'm foreign and vote in Scottish and local elections but even for general elections my name is crossed out on the list (dp spotted that, I didn't try to vote in a GE).

WarriorN · 27/01/2023 09:44

Wonderful!

Thanks for the clarification, I had misunderstood.

I am still cross about the GRA consultation!!

It's OK! I heard that if she's elected her merkin will be her deputy, running the office and standing in for Elaine when she's too busy terfing to do politics.

Excellent news.Vote Elaine, keep a poor merkin employed!

Igneococcus · 27/01/2023 09:47

Really putting her money where her mouth is. What a fabulous woman

Better than putting it where her merkin is😉

WarriorN · 27/01/2023 09:50

Wouldn't it be amazing if she was voted in and her opening speech in the parliament was, "don't worry I won't be flashing my merkin this time but I will be standing up for women's rights today and going forward!"

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 27/01/2023 15:25

Very good news. I agree with PP, Gussy could make a list of "how to do it" for any woman.

Is local council a training ground for national elections? Do you have to "do time" in a town council before doing a capital city? I thought she wasvin healthcare.

Sounds like an only fans thing! If she's elected can we call her Mrs Merkin?

JanieAllen · 27/01/2023 16:37

Gussie is allotmenteering - leaflets are expensive...

Boiledbeetle · 27/01/2023 17:00

VOTE FOR ELAINE

ELAINE AND HER MERKIN

A merkin

A coat of many hues
A symbol of change

A symbol of woman

A way to fight
A way to choose

A tool for self-expression

It highlights the plight
It focuses the woman

It tells a story

It sets the mood
It finds its place

In history

In art
In culture

It can be long
It can be short
It can be straight

It can be curled
It can be wild
It can be fun

It can be Parliament

It changes with the seasons
With the trends

It follows the beat
It leads the way

It speaks to the soul

It helps us find ourselves
Every single day

So here's to the merkin
In all its glory, and hue

May it bring joy
May it bring fun
May it be a source of inspiration

And may it bring justice
For all who wear it.

Women Won’t Wheesht

She hit her target yesterday, and can't take any more donations, I believe.

Good luck to you Elaine 👍👏

fabricstash · 28/01/2023 20:17

Also Gussie Grippers is on this weeks Heterodorx podcast!

EfingNora · 29/01/2023 06:42

Can we start a campaign to get JKR to stand as an MSP? Against wee Nicola of course.

Am delighted Elaine is standing.

Can’t believe ACH has the nerve to knock on any doors to campaign at the moment. Wonder what the Lib Dem candidate really thinks of him ‘helping’.

Needmoresleep · 29/01/2023 07:25

Independents standing in local elections need to get their name out. Gussie and her Merkin will need help from people willing to leaflet or to knock on doors. I am at the other end of the country so no help, but did see her in Edinburgh and am envious of anyone in megaphone hailing distance. She will be a terrific campaigner.

Perhaps the LibDem thing is that they hope she will erode some of the SNP vote, letting them in. Cynical as they are just as gender woo as SNP.
