Does anyone know what the deal is with her? She wrote a thread about being commissioned to write a hit piece on JK Rowling but in doing research found nothing transphobic and decided to speak out about it. I thought it was great and really good that it got some attention for JKR.

Now I’m seeing on Twitter everyone seems to be slagging her off and I can’t quite work out why. It’s not just trans rights activists, it’s the gender critical lot that seem to be gunning for her just as hard. She seems to have been asking for stories of abusive males but I’m not sure why that’s so terrible. People are always sharing their experiences of abuse on Twitter and obviously no one has to share if they don’t want to.

Can anyone fill me in? I feel I’ve missed something but I don’t know what.

Hope someone has archived this thread.

I’m assuming you’re still reading this EJ. If you are and you are genuine I would really recommend changing your approach. You are talking down to feminists who have been in this fight for years, many of us have at one stage or another had a brief platform the size of yours and instead of promoting ourselves or wondering how we should present ourselves we simply stated what we believed in. Nothing more. Listen to other women. Read GC literature. You are saying nothing new or more deeply insightful, although the fact you are repeating the words of other women is, by some at least, appreciated.

Lose the ego. Promote other women. Read other women. Stop talking as if you are a leader of a movement you decided to be a part of a few weeks ago. You were until recently making a living out of shaming women who had these opinions so to then change your mind and expect to be embraced as not only an equal but a leader is incredibly grating for many.

”My poor mother! She was so worried that yesterday, she sent me the link to this message board. I’m so sorry I’ve not been able to read it all, but I thought I’d drop by and say hello.”

There are only about 30 posts before your post. It might be worth reading them and you will be able to reassure your mother that there isn’t anything to worry about. A handful of women are slightly wary of a new high profile person who is setting up events for women (and some men) to speak. Nobody knows who you are. You might be a person who has had a genuine (and very speedy) change of heart or there might be more to it than that. How are we to know?

But definitely you should read the thread. Your initial Twitter statement (which I took to be genuine) is based on the fact that you didn’t actually read what JKR wrote before you formed an opinion on her. You acknowledge this was an error. By not reading what we have written you are making the exact same mistake with the women on Mumsnet.

Thanks for joining us, EJ Rosetta (assuming it is you and not an impostor). Which was the publication that wanted you to write the article about JK Rowling?

If it helps EJ, I loved your initial tweet on Jk.

But tinsel was right to later raise concerns about how women's stories might be used from a safeguarding pov.

Our main issue with gender ideology, and JKR's, is safeguarding women and women's rights.

TRAs don't listen to women. Some/ most female politicians don't listen to women.

The women fighting this shit have no time for women who don't listen or don't take on board the myriad of safeguarding issues.

TinselAngel · 31/12/2022 12:07

Gosh I've just read the article again that I just posted and am staggered at how offensive it must be to actual lesbians Shock

WarriorN · 31/12/2022 12:09

Cross post Tinsel. It reminds me of a lawyer friend who went to London and deliberately dyed her hair platinum blonde as she found men treated her differently. Xmas Confused

Dunno, I think appropriating a sexuality that isn't yours, lying about it and belittling the historical discrimination lesbians have faced is quite a lot worse than dying your hair a different colour?

As would be making it all up to get the fee for a click bait article. Either way it's bad.

Well it certainly isn’t quality of writing that got her up the ladder. Jeez that’s a hard read, both style and substance.

FKATondelayo · 31/12/2022 12:22

That article. Bloody hell.

TinselAngel · 31/12/2022 12:27

People have started sending me stuff now.

Any women who are thinking of sending anything to the email address EJ stated below should be aware that the previous email address that she invited women to send their stories of abuse to was "compromised"

She's gone all TWAW according to her Twitter invitation.

astonishing

seriously, I cannot use the word 'avoid' enough about this person

Pants on fire. I can confirm the following does not happen to lesbians at work because they're lesbians.

After a year with a certain company, I found myself progressing, fast. Every internal promotion available and Boom… It was mine. Who gets first pick of holiday slots? Yours Truly.* Do I fancy a week off for London Pride at short notice? Well you got it, lady, and have a luminous, fruity cocktail on us. My bosses and their invisible puppeteers seemed to want to do anything to keep me on board, and it didn’t take me long to figure out why.* It was because I’m gay. To them, I was a mark on a chart that proved to any auditor that they were an Equal Equality Workplace, and thus my lady-loving tendencies put me top of the list for retention.

joaniwalshi · 01/01/2023 02:53

EJ is not a journalist. Her first tweet about JK was, I'd say, a lie. Her thread about Denise complete cobblers, about as believable as being given time off work with cocktails on top to attend Pride when it's always on a Saturday anyway. Or that her mum found this thread. Just like her best friend saw those of us questioning the inconsistencies in her stories on Twitter and clutched his broken heart, crying, 'Why, EJ, why, don't they know what you've sacrificed?' She sounds like Meghan Markle and the crew member who took off his cap, knelt by her seat (on a private plane) and told her at least he recognised what she'd done for this country.

No journalist on a weekly gets three months to submit copy. She initially said it took her that long to read every word JK had ever written or spoken. Yet in the Scotsman piece she said she'd already read the books so many times the pages had thinned. So she'd know there was nothing t/p in them. She said on GB News she attended weekly meetings with 30 other people. Freelancers are v rarely if ever asked to attend these conferences and there aren't many titles left with 30 staffers. The kind of material she appears to produce wouldn't pay enough to warrant three months' research. Pink News have disavowed her and none of the other titles to which she claims to contribute would pay at all. First she couldn't name her employer as she'd 'never work in this town again' and was signed to a no-slagging-off contract (even though she was freelance), next she'd been immediately sacked by them anyway as she slagged off a previous employer...

I put all this to her on Twitter. She obfuscated. As she did with everyone else. So I emailed her. No reply for five days until she tried to organise a pile-on. Then she did respond but as if I was a (male) ex and she was someone called Pixie. As the saying goes, if someone shows you who they are believe them the first time. Gal's a grifter.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/01/2023 08:33

as believable as being given time off work with cocktails on top to attend Pride when it's always on a Saturday anyway.

YY I also thought it was strange to be given "a week off" when Pride in London is just one day, at the weekend.

Perhaps EJ will return to the thread to clarify.

TightFistedWozerk · 01/01/2023 09:04

What a mess.

I really don't like how she brushed off the concerns about her lack of interest in the safeguarding of women, Tinsel.

TinselAngel · 01/01/2023 11:14

Bisexual women are surely welcome at Pride anyway?

RoyalCorgi · 01/01/2023 13:58

She said on GB News she attended weekly meetings with 30 other people. Freelancers are v rarely if ever asked to attend these conferences and there aren't many titles left with 30 staffers.

I'm surprised she wasn't challenged on this. Even big national magazines don't tend to have more than 10 staffers at the outside. Probably the major national newspapers (Guardian, Tel etc) do, but that's all.

@EJRosetta You're more than welcome to come back and fill us in.

LangClegsInSpace · 01/01/2023 14:46

Blimey.

I see she's still calling herself a lesbian on twitter. From one bisexual woman to another, EJ - that's shitty behaviour.

joaniwalshi · 01/01/2023 16:10

I am really surprised Andrew Doyle and GB News didn't do any basic fact checking. But then maybe he assumed Bindel had done it before interviewing Rosetta and that it wasn't feasible so many supported her without folk picking up on major irregularities. And GB News did have on Stephanie Hayden as a lovely reasonable on-side t/w. As did Paul Brand on ITV News at Ten as a property law expert. To be fair, the old basics of journalism have disappeared. And yet... how can you not at least wonder why she has no footprint as a journalist or ask who the employer was; her obfuscations and inconsistencies over that were clear red flags. I'm not even sure she's a lesbian. As I said, the mad email she sent me in response to my questions appeared to think I was a male ex and I just don't believe anything she claims as she seems to be a figment of her own imagination.

I've contacted Bindel to warn JK to be cautious about interaction. I also contacted Doyle and The Scotsman to ask if they'd fact-checked - looking for affirmation she was legit in the days when she refused even to respond to questions - but neither responded. I'd say she's going to use that one tweet and the fame of one of the most popular women on the planet to try to launch a career as a journalist/expert/talking head or to start a funder as she's sacrificed so much for the cause.
