Important new initiative for government workers. This is where a huge fight back is going to happen in behind the scenes government, in memos and meetings. If we don't win in the civil service, it doesn't matter how many demos or cases we win, how many twitter threads we write, sooner or later sex differences will be erased. If you work in government/public sector get involved asp.

seen-network.uk/

"We are happy to announce the launch of our new UK cross-government staff network, the Sex Equality and Equity Network.
SEEN is a staff network committed to promoting and supporting sex equality and equity between women and men in our workplaces, and helping all staff to thrive at work and fulfil their potential. The focus of our network is on challenging sex discrimination and upholding rights and protections that relate to sex (including the protections provided to those with the protected characteristics of sex, pregnancy and maternity and sexual orientation, as set out in the Equality Act 2010). We recognise that to achieve this and ensure sex equality and equity sometimes requires treating women and men differently, according to our different rights and needs.

We are also committed to the protected belief (covered by the protected characteristic of religion and belief in the Equality Act 2010) that biological sex is binary and immutable, that biological sex matters for both women and men in our everyday lives, including for our rights and needs in the workplace, and that biological sex must not be conflated with, or replaced by, the concepts of gender or gender identity."

@ahagwearsapointybonnet Can you please give us the list of 5? Thank you in advance.

Tallisker · 01/03/2024 11:53

The ones I know of are the original Civil Service one, SEEN in the City which is financial services, there's a police one and one planned for the NHS. So that's 5 with the Parliament one.

BettyFilous · 01/03/2024 12:04

Someone mentioned a SEEN for HR professionals on another thread as well.

The letter is great, and I'm so pleased to see other SEEN networks popping up all over the place! It helps to counter the dismay I feel that my department has decided to get Stonewall in for some training this month.

That's awful - can you email SEEN and let them know? Definitely one for them to be aware of, as they seem to be talking to senior people

Yes, I think I will do that!

There's also CAN-SG for clinicians, which is similar.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 01/03/2024 13:47

Yes the 5 launched so far are the Civil Service (first one), SEEN in the City (finance), Police, HR and now Parliament. Heard rumours that there may be an NHS one coming too, but nothing launched publicly so far (I hope so though!).

Scientistranswidow · 01/03/2024 16:49

@ahagwearsapointybonnet Thank you very much! Really good news! Let's hope that SEEN in the NHS gets going. 😃

EnoughPlayingNice · 04/03/2024 09:11

There's also a SEEN in STEM.

A damning letter from SEEN in the civil service about the levels of fear and intimidation created by a small number of powerful transactivists and their ability to undermine government initiatives despite their lack of democratic power:
Well done to all of you tackling this Flowers

It is an excellent letter. The authors are articulate and sure of themselves in their pushback against TRAs and fear. It is a letter to copy and keep, because bits of it will be useful, I think. Congratulations!

Anyone got a copy of the full letter?

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 04/03/2024 20:38

SEEN civil servants have been asked not to leak the letter.

I hear the odious “a:gender” network have now had their funding cut. The fact they were getting such an amount of tax payers money for so many years though needs an immediate investigation though in my opinion

They got £82k for one year. Why?! And who signed that off?

The "a:gender" network gets government money while the rest of us pay to be gender critical. The SEEN crowdfunder has 26K already and rising. I'm not even a civil servant.

teawamutu · 20/03/2024 09:43

£28k now. Including a shovelful from me. I am so done with this shit.

Scientistranswidow · 20/03/2024 17:52

@teawamutu I'm sorry, but there are more of these cases coming along every day: Lizzy Pitt, Kevin Lister and others. I call my payments to these cases my "GC tax", which I pay because the alternative is unthinkable. Thank you!

Oh I think that came out wrong - I also donate and regard it as my form of activism (work in v captured place).

I'm sick to fucking death of women being persecuted for telling the truth. I'll keep donating till it stops happening but WHY IS IT STILL HAPPENING?

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 21/03/2024 11:15

The crowdfunder has met its initial target. Quick work!

Scientistranswidow · 01/04/2024 18:32

Good news at the end of the article: "On Sunday night, a government source said: “The current funding arrangements for a:gender will cease with effect from April 1 2024.”
