"There’s more to womanhood than high heels" (I don't even own any at all):

I think he has read his own publicity a bit too often and needs to get back to being witty. He looked better when he mixed male and female dress with his own style. Now he looks like he has borrowed clothes from a retired school cookery teacher and rather silly.

An aside - they once gave him an honorary degree at UEA as an alumni. Everyone hoped he would turn up with some good gags on the day, to liven up graduation, but apparently he just did a very worthy speech. Cue much disappointment as graduation events can be deathly.

Goodness, I never thought Eddie could infuriate and patronise me more than when he's wanging on about 'girl mode,' but he's actually managed to achieve it with that line about not being a 'supercharged local councillor' like other candidates. He's basically telling his potential constituents that he's only interested in world-leader, history-making, Nelson Mandela-level stuff, so they're not to bore him with their lesser local problems like hospital parking or childcare places. Can you imagine if a Tory candidate essentially said, 'Fuck off, unless your problem is glamorous and will make me look like a saviour on the world stage.'?

Eddie Izzard: sometimes girl mode, sometimes boy mode, always total cock mode.

I've a feeling that line about not being a "supercharged local councillor" might be his downfall. I've a feeling the good Labour party members of Sheffield don't take kindly to being patronised by a metropolitan celebrity.

Tallisker · 29/10/2022 10:11

I've been saying for yonks that EI would bring the sunlight. This is what a transwoman actually is.

theDudesmummy · 29/10/2022 10:25

Great article and as others have said, this is exactly what we have been saying.

I was another one who was a fan of EI until he started this shit.

BreatheInFor4 · 29/10/2022 10:28

Ah, Janice is just brilliant, isn’t she?
Always picks up on the issues pronto and writes so clearly and compellingly on them. Thank you, Janice, for everything you are doing for women 🙏

p.s. fuck this ‘girl mode’ BS

BlackAlys · 29/10/2022 10:35

Janice 💪

Titsflyingsouth · 29/10/2022 10:46

Bravo!! 👏👏

Igmum · 29/10/2022 10:52

Yes well done JT and thanks for sharing

Arnaquer · 29/10/2022 10:59

@verastan you've been plagiarised!

teawamutu · 29/10/2022 11:27

I ditched the Guardian and subscribed to the Times because of Janice Turner.

Unbelievably, she's getting better and better. I suspect as she gets angrier. It's beautiful 😁

unwashedanddazed · 29/10/2022 11:33

Great article. Thanks for the share token, much appreciated.

RobinStrike · 29/10/2022 11:47

Janice Turner is brilliant. Recently joined MN and listened to the interview with Justin Webb. I noticed he cited JT as an influence on media interest and changing attitudes on women and trans issues.

turbonerd · 29/10/2022 12:08

What an excellent article!
I may well Get around to ditching the Graun and switching to the Times within the next couple of months now (am just a bit slow, have been meaning to do it for the last two years 😬).

I don’t have girl mode either. Funny that. Allthough a marine biologist in my country went on telly to tell us that clown fish and other crustaceans such as shrimp DO change their sex. So I am identifying as a shrimp lately, then will let nature just take its course and I don’t even have to pay attention to what I identify any further than that. A bit lazy, me.

But it has solved clothing, shoes and hairdo issues as no-one knows what a shrimp would wear, so I Get away with wearing what I like.
If anyone wants to join and can be bothered to think of a slogan please do. We will also need a flag apparently, but no need to rush on anything.

Igneococcus · 29/10/2022 12:09

Thanks everyone for links and examples. I'll make a cup fo tea and start watching.

Just a tip for anyone with a willing student family member, or a .ac.uk email - you can get a student subscription to The Times for £1.99 month.
You'll need a Student Beans account.

Grown men like Eddie and Dylan going on about being girls is not cute nor tweet .... It is damn right creepy. Guy

RoyalCorgi · 29/10/2022 13:16

Go for it. I did it some time ago and have no regrets. Now that Hadley Freeman is leaving the Guardian for the Sunday Times there's even less reason to stick with the Guardian.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/10/2022 13:18

”Eddie Izzard: sometimes girl mode, sometimes boy mode, always total cock mode.”

Oh you could not have put that better, @EsmaCannonball - you win MN today, in my opinion! I will remember that whenever Eddie Izzard is mentioned.

FrancescaContini · 29/10/2022 13:23

Smilelesstalkmore · 28/10/2022 23:56

She has nailed it as always.

Also, I have learnt a new word tonight, peccadillo - I'm definitely going to start using that!

Thanks for the share token.

Pink-nailed it, perhaps?!

I also ❤️ Janice. I wish EI would fuck off to Iran or Afghanistan with his high heels and glitter and see how “girl mode” is received there. I’m sure he’d switch back pretty rapidly to “boy mode”.

BlackAlys · 29/10/2022 13:28

@FrancescaContini oh yes. Well said.

XanaduKira · 29/10/2022 13:28

That's very true @FrancescaContini

I feel the same about everyone who says 'woman' is a feeling and that they're definitely one & should be treated as such.

CoraggioCara · 29/10/2022 14:32

After years of deliberation I've now subscribed to the Times. Janice Turner is wonderful.

RobinStrike · 29/10/2022 15:06

For anyone interested in a Times Online subscription there is a sale on

MrsJamin · 29/10/2022 16:40
The "join the 21st century" message aimed at Rosie duffield has angered me SO much today. Do women's rights belong in the last century, Eddie? I think we are going to see this nastier side of EI a lot more in the coming months. He's going to show his true misogynistic colours.
zanahoria · 29/10/2022 18:15

"I've a feeling that line about not being a "supercharged local councillor" might be his downfall"

and the bit about wanting to put Sheffield on the map
