I've been a long time poster on Mumsnet, but recently in the last couple of months I feel like I can't say anything anymore. If I attempt to say anything that isn't in lockstep with gender ideology, my account seems to get removed. Can anyone please help me with a code to Ovarit?

I really don't want to leave Mumsnet as I’ve developed a very strong connection to this website, but I feel like me and my views are no longer in line with Mumsnet’s HQs thinking and it's progress too far in the wrong direction. I’ve met some beautiful and wonderful women in my time here, and it’s a shame that I feel like I’m being made to leave.

Farewell, and thank you all for the wonderful memories, and to all of my friends.

I think because some TRAs claim it doesn't exist at all, and is mean to even talk about.
I also think because they know deep down that if the general public got wind of it, any remaining good will would evaporate. 'Be kind' doesn't tend to translate well when we are talking about enabling men's sexual fetishes. It blows a hole in the lie that is 'we just want to pee'.

But it's weird because I've seen posts explicitly mentioning it kept up, and others (like the one I mentioned before) only vaguely referencing it taken down immediately. So maybe it depends on the moderating team at the time.

Fascinating. I've had innumerable posts removed for mentioning AGP in the past, but yours has lasted a week.

I know in my feminist circles MN is regarded as having achieved its purpose. I don't think anyone's devastated or fearful of being banned any more. It's like a badge of pride these days, being a feminist banned from MN for telling the truth.

IcakethereforeIam · 03/09/2022 13:43

I'm not currently interested in posting on Ovarit, assuming they would have me, I waste enough time on MN. If you get banned on MN (I'd definitely wear that on a t-shirt), do they remove all your posts?

I'm not a twittered or fb, if I lost my posts on here I don't know how I'd demonstrate my GC or feminist credentials. Or reach out for an invite.

For the record, I've not found MN's moderation too onerous, perhaps a little uneven. I don't anticipate leaving or being banned. But, if too many of the interesting posters leave, I'll definitely rethink.

pattihews · 03/09/2022 16:07

Can't answer that. Haven't been banned!

I have invite codes! You don’t have a post history so could you DM me with your other username and I’ll send one?

@DarkDayforMN
I had an experience today that I can't go into publicly, and someone suggested Ovarit.
It made so much sense, reading the topics there.

However, I am somehow ''Locked out'' of Twitter, have had to contact them, but they say ''It will take a few days''...
I can't see any other way to contact Ovarit.

Thank you.

oakleaffy · 06/04/2023 23:21

@DarkDayforMN I just had an unexpected message with a code from the friend who recommended 'Ovarit'...So hope that works!

Thanks anyway, Oak.

My own experience is that the moderation here has got more relaxed over the last year or so. I have also noticed more generally, newspapers, other sites, that there is more willingness to can a man a man and to worry less about offending the most sensitive.

I assume that at times MN was inundated with complaints, which would have been costly for them, and so easier to give way on the marginal stuff. We now have more open debate on gender stuff and a few useful legal precedents, so MN is less at risk from an expensive law suit.

I have been on here for years, with only one deletion. And that was deliberate on my part. You can say most things you want to say as long as you remain polite.

Needmoresleep · 07/04/2023 00:22

To call a man a man….

even if I changed user names people would recognise me for my dyslexic inability to proof read.

OneMorePlant · 07/04/2023 00:54

On ovarit you can talk mostly freely about the gender stuff true. But you can't talk freely about a lot of other stuff as it's heavily radfem influenced and when you don't jump in line to oust your disgust for shaving and make up and mock the women who do that you are labelled a "libfem" and harrassed. They don't like different opinions there and certain mods will ban you from circles.

Boomboom22 · 07/04/2023 00:59

The moderation has improved in recent weeks. Aibu are sometimes staying instead of immediately being relegated to the naughty corner.

IwantToRetire · 07/04/2023 19:28

Well I joined ovarit as I had heard it was a good place for discussion.

And my first or second post was about the issues raised on the thread here (FWR) about the elephant in the room a FiLia, as I thought it would be interesting to get an american perspective because of the overlap of individuals concerned.

It got deleted for being a "drama" or something, and I though how could women who are so politically ignorant possibly be moderating a board about feminism.

Especially as we all know that the impact of that discussion on mumsnet FWR has had a real impact politically.

I just couldn't be bothered after that.

It just left me feeling that it was all a bit light weight and politically niave. ie a bit like mumsnet feminism "chat" or the Guardian putting women in the lifestyle section.

Bathhy · 07/04/2023 19:29

can i get a invite too please

Helleofabore · 07/04/2023 19:53

I always thought ovarit was for bonafide feminist posters only. Is that the reason it is invite only?

or was I wrong?

Needmoresleep · 08/04/2023 10:43

It has never appealed to me. Why join a bubble. I am very happy for people here to disagree with me. All I am asking for is well thought out argument. I like the way mods keep things polite.

Tabasco007 · 08/04/2023 10:52

Hadn't heard of Ovarit...., I'll check it out.

It's supposed to be for all women to talk freely about gender critical issues and other women's issues. It got created after the reddit sub gendercritical was banned.

In practice it's run and moderated with some radfems who are more on the extreme end of feminism and its just a shitty place for anyone with more moderate or reality based ideas.

It's invite only to protect against the onslaught and bots from the TRA army. Every member gets 50 invites or something.

I deleted my account over a year ago so I can't help anyone with invites sorry.

They changed the invite code distribution. You need lots of points before you are given any invite codes now, which is a wise rule, given that many who ask for them have turned out to be trolls.

It's a radfem site, true, but there are several sections which are more moderate for those who prefer that, and it allows a somewhat different view given that it's more US-centred but also has people posting from Canada, the UK, and many other countries.

IwantToRetire · 08/04/2023 23:44

Unless its changed in the last year or so I dont think its politics are anything to do with radical feminism (as I understand it based on UK experience)

It seemed pretty superficial, lifestyle, low on content and political analysis.

Hopefully it allows womens to make connections with those with a gender critical view, but not quite the "robust" analysis and discussion as on FWR (except for the threads where 2 contributors just keep going on and on and on and on and ... !

Having been a bit mean about them also to say you do not need an invite code as if you search the web site you will find this:

How do I get an Ovarit invite code?

Ovarit requires an invite code for registration.

We're distributing codes by email to those who email us at [email protected].

Send us the reason you want to join. We don't need your personal information and we don't need to know your identity. Just let us know why you want to join the site.
