Extraordinary reporting of stickers in local paper.

I live a few miles from where these terrible “hate crimes” are supposedly happening. I can’t see anything untrue about the slogans, btw.

Has anyone ever known a documented case of razors under stickers?

All the stickers shown are on curved surfaces, so how would that even work?

There’s quite a ratio in the comments.

No, the razor blades is a complete lie.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/08/2022 14:13

All of the supposed razor blade reports that I am aware of (I can think of 3 separate claims in different cities) have been shown to have been posted by people who have posted about "happening across" similar things in other places. None have ever checked out. In other words, pure fantasy.

Magdalen street being a hotspot for stickering got me in the feels.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/08/2022 14:23

After Magdalen Berns? I hadn't picked up on that!

Absolutely! I noticed that too.

Oh dear the collapse of local print media is a problem.

Our local paper website operates so that you can just type a story, add pictures and upload it. Presumably there is someone making some sort of decision about whether it's published or not but its a pretty low bar.

Look at the credits for the pictures in this story. This is basically a Facebook post by this Councillor given more 'credibility' by having another person's byline attached.

FlibbertyGiblets · 06/08/2022 14:25

It jumped out at me despite being so very subtle.

Anactor · 06/08/2022 14:34

Looking at those stickers, a razor blade underneath them would be really obvious - there’s the sticker flattened on to the lamppost and you’d see a raised rectangular shape underneath.

Based on the various razor blade urban legends, I think, but by spread by people who don’t realise that a sticker hasn’t got hiding places like an apple/handrail/water slide.

cariadlet · 06/08/2022 14:37

Terrible biased reporting. I've got the stickers that were in the photographs. Nothing hateful about any of them.

Truthlikeness · 06/08/2022 14:40

"Green Party city councillor Alex Catt, who represents the Sewell ward, said that the transphobic messages could "easily spiral in to something much more than stickers".

Like the protection of female-only spaces? Heavens above.

TheGreatATuin · 06/08/2022 14:46

As far as I'm aware, the only actual incidents reported of these were proved to be a hoax. IIRC, there are a couple of activists on SM who claim to find them regularly. One was caught out by posting the picture of their injured finger, only to have a reverse image search show it wasn't them.
It's one thing to have a conspiracy theory spread like this on social media, but worrying that news orgs will report it without doing the most basic fact checking.

I saw an ‘adult human female’ sticker at my bus-stop recently. It was only small, and only lasted a couple of days, but it pleased me immensely 😃

2018 thread with some fine MN sleuthing in addition to the urban myths behind such stories.

I think stickers can have a positive effect on other women.

I met somebody a few months ago who is GC. She'd recently moved to my town and had spotted one of my stickers when out dog walking.
This is a very small, Tory dominated place so she was very surprised to see the sticker and said that it made her feel that she wasn't alone.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 06/08/2022 15:28

@cariadlet
Why on earth should you be surprised at seeing a feminist sticker in a ‘Tory dominated ‘ place? Virtually all the TRA are Green, Lib/dem and Labour apparatchiks. Most of the push back is coming from Tories, just as in thé US, red states are trying to limit the ‘trans a child without informing the parents’ cult. United we stand….

Rubbish.

Most of the pushback is coming from leftwing women. And don't forget the Tories, under Teresa May, were the ones to suggest self ID in the first place.

United with bloody nobody, thanks very much, don't bother trying to force team us.

They are at the top of the article.

What I find amazing is that '6 gender critical transphobes and their sock puppets' seem to have a lot of time on their hands to write all these well-informed posts everywhere that allows comment.

It's almost like more and more women (and men) see this ideology for what it is, having 'educated' themselves Wink

I think Tory-dominated places are more likely to have GC stickers than pro-TRA ones.

Or no rapists in prison cells with women?
No male born sex offenders in women's hospital wards?
No children being offered puberty blockers to resolve their unhappiness with their developing bodies?

Goodness me, that would never do Confused

Don't forget those right-wing Observer and BBC. And the far-right JK Rowing Grin

ScreechingEchoChamber · 06/08/2022 15:56

You can add 'BBC, Observer, Guardian' to the list of media who are starting to publish articles coming from a feminist point of view - and while you're there, stop trying to smear women by association.

It just reveals a movement that is incapable of actually responding to salient points or discussing relevant issues - all we get is this tiresome whataboutery, diversions and attacks.

For example, the point in this article about razor blades. Who's made this claim? Where's the evidence? Why is 'puberty is not a medical condition' considered a transphobic statement?

Trans activists are pretty much all left-leaning. “Trans women are women” is nearly always said by someone with left-wing politics.

Trying to pretend that trans activism is not left-led is not tenable.
