Half way through the game which has been nail biting. From a feminist perspective, all the women - players, commentators, ref - are not sexualised. It feels so weird to see this in football. And brilliant.

Absolutely brilliant 🎉🙌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

cheeseisthebest · 31/07/2022 20:21

Fantastic!! Loved that.

chilling19 · 31/07/2022 20:21

I hope this shows the FA that yes, women's sports can make you money. No need to include the blokes. Because after all, this whole thing is about money.

Sat and watched it with dd who loved it. Was wonderful to show her women doing something so amazing!

JacquelinePot · 31/07/2022 20:29

Bloody hell, that was a bit good, wasn't it?! Feeling a bit emotional over here.

Well done, Lionesses!

Female players, coaches, referees, commentators... I hope this inspires girls to take up football, and inspires the grown-ups to keep males out of female teams

OvaHere · 31/07/2022 20:43

Really great. Very moving to see so many young girls too.

Congrats to the England team.

VaggieMight · 31/07/2022 20:44

Go Lionesses! Absolutely brilliant team and huge inspiration for girls! They've slogged their hearts out and deserve every bit of glory.

dudsville · 31/07/2022 20:47

That is one party i would love to attend! Woo hoo the women!!!

I'm really pleased they won it with a woman head coach, I was slightly offended by the narrative that they'd be improved by a gormless man with negligible coaching experience.

There was criticism when Phil Neville took over, but it was well known (and I think he said so himself) that a number of top female coaches were approached, but they all refused. Emma Hayes has constantly turned down the job.

Glenthebattleostrich · 31/07/2022 20:52

My daughter hates sports and doesn't understand the significance of todays win.

I explained that 27 years ago I refused to take part in P.E. because my school didn't allow girls to play football. To see the women's team lift a major trophy made me cry with happiness and pride. And in front of a record breaking crowd!

It was watching the culmination of our combined efforts over the years.

littlbrowndog · 31/07/2022 21:01

🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 Just that. Lionesses. You did it

Mysterioso · 31/07/2022 21:01

Go England! You absolute beauties!

Boiledbeetle · 31/07/2022 21:05

I'm not even English, but well done England (so hard for a Scot to say! so hard)

Can you imagine the backlash now if they suddenly decided to put a trans woman in the team.

Part of me wants them to do it just to finally bring all this madness to a complete end.

YES, YES, YES - well done England's Women Footballers.

Now you stupid numpties at the FA - THIS IS WHAT WOMEN CAN DO, NO MEN REQUIRED.

And Kier Starmer - all well and good you saying how the England Women's team have inspired your daughter that will be all for nothing if you and the FA have your way, just fuck off with destroying girls and women's dreams because of the hurty feelings of boys and men.

MEN AND BOYS HOWEVER THEY IDENTIFY HAVE NO PLACE IN WOMEN'S SPORTS THEY ARE FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS ONLY.

Yes Keir Starmer, it’s no good your daughter being inspired if she has to play against males. The Lionesses have shown you what women can do in fair competition. Let women continue to do this.

Falconer · 31/07/2022 21:10

I'm at a holiday park, I was so happy to see the bar absolutely packed cheering on the Lionesses as if it were the England mens team. It was marvellous!

Waitwhat23 · 31/07/2022 21:11

Bloody well done to them! And I say this as a Scot and someone with no interest in any kind of football. Amazingly inspirational for girls who have football as their dream.

Well, the FA already know that. After all they are the ones who killed women's football.

ScreechingEchoChamber · 31/07/2022 22:05

Congratulations and well done, England!

Clymene · 31/07/2022 22:11

I am so bloody proud. They have shown what women can do - how consistent and focused we can be, how well we can work as a team, what phenomenal athletes we are.

That was a victory for every single English woman (and hopefully/possibly for the other nations in the union but I don't like to assume).

This week has been such a good week for women. Tonight really was the icing on the cake.

I feel indomitable

DuckDuckNo · 31/07/2022 22:15

Congratulations England! What an amazing win, and what an amazing tournament it was! This - the huge media focus, the crowds, the brilliant English football culture - meant A LOT for women's sports.

hoteltango · 31/07/2022 22:26

As an extra bonus, the MOD tweeted that the RAF flypast (a Hercules and two Typhoons) had all-female crews.

Vargas · 31/07/2022 22:33

My non-sporty teen daughter said 'this is really great for girls isn't it?' 😭

Datun · 31/07/2022 22:47

Indeed! And the crowd at Wembley broke the record for any Euros final, including the men's competition.
