According to the BBC in advance of the results being published. Let's hope so. And I hope it is her attitude to women's rights that has cost her

OP posts:
GrimDamnFanjo · 20/07/2022 16:21

Serves her right fo not even having the integrity to stand by what she believes.
It's enabled the media to scrutinise the issue and been discussed on tv.
Guido did several separate blogs including the infamous despatch box speech.

RhymesWithOrange · 20/07/2022 16:22

I think Mordaunt's outcome should be a big warning to any politician who faces serious competition (i.e. not those in safe seats) that Women Will Not be Fucked Around With.

Datun · 20/07/2022 16:22

Yes, I hope this does send the message that not only is wokery in general very unpopular, but people who want to win votes will be reverse ferreting on TWAW as fast as their legs can carry them.

achillestoes · 20/07/2022 15:45

One does not just walk into Mordaunt.

It took me a while but I finally got the joke. Brilliant 👏🏻

beastlyslumber · 20/07/2022 16:25

I'm still disappointed it's not going to be Kemi, but so fucking relieved it's not Mordaunt either!

MsFogi · 20/07/2022 16:25

Thanks f**k for that - the idea of Mourdant running the country having supported self-id and not knowing what a woman is was chilling. Hopefully other politicians and people in power will see this and think twice about where they stand (not through any care for women of course but on the basis of understanding that it could cost them in the future).

achillestoes · 20/07/2022 16:26

@PoseyFlump

I admit, I’m pleased with it. 😂

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 20/07/2022 16:26

Truss vs et tu Rishi.

You would like to think that tonight Pen will be thinking on…

achillestoes · 20/07/2022 16:28

Yes, the really important thing is that MPs take note: Mordaunt is gorgeous, electable, has centre ground appeal. But she is a fibber and her politics found her out.

nauticant · 20/07/2022 16:31

As I've become older and more cynical, I've come round to why politicians will sometimes lie. But if you're going to do it, it better not be for personal gain, and it better not be so transparent that you're effectively taking everyone who believes you for a gullible fool, or a fellow fan of mendacity.

Sidaway · 20/07/2022 16:35

She quite possibly would have given top jobs to people like Caroline Nokes and Maria Millar - shudder

We've just had a very narrow escape.

At least it's bought us a little more time (~ 2 years) to turn things around.

PoseyFlump · 20/07/2022 16:37

It's crazy to think she got as many votes as she did, considering the fact the last PM was outed for being a liar.

LizzieSiddal · 20/07/2022 16:39

One does not just walk into Mordaunt.

Can someone explain please?

Im relieved she’s gone, she’s a liar and we’ve just got rid of one of them.

Fluffymule · 20/07/2022 16:43

Yes, the extensive media coverage of Penny Mordaunts views on Gender Ideology - the way it was presented as a direct threat to Women's rights and children safeguarding, and the mauling she got for lying about her publicly stated views when she faced pushback- let's hope it is a massive wake up call to all politicians, not just the current opposition and shadow front bench.

The majority of people do not support the degradation of women's rights. Child safeguarding is not going to be allowed to be watered down. Harmful and regressive ideologies are not vote winners. Twitter is not real life, and the sooner politicians and public organisations start to realise this the better.

Penny learnt the hard way.

nauticant · 20/07/2022 16:43

It's this LizzieSiddal:

nauticant · 20/07/2022 16:50

I'm hoping that one lesson politicians will learn is that if you're going to nail your colours to the mast of gender identity ideology, then you've either got to stick with that for good and look like a zealot, or clearly state that you've changed your mind and look gullible/flaky, and then be framed as transphobic for the progressive/young part of the electorate.

Better to do one of those rather than trying to dishonestly find a third way like Mordaunt.

SSReye · 20/07/2022 16:57

I don't actually see this as good news, PM was the best chance the Conservatives had of beating Labour in the next GE.

theworldhas · 20/07/2022 16:58

Labour will be pissing themselves. Morduant would have proved a tricky customer and appealed to large swathes of the electorate.
But instead they now face either the Trussbot, the Thatcher cosplayer who makes Theresa May look like Mrs Charisma and a paragon of competence, style and confidence.
Or otherwise Richie Rich the tax avoiding multi-billionaire with second rate Tony Blair mannerisms.

theworldhas · 20/07/2022 17:00

@SSReye
It’s fantastic news! The country can ill afford another term of Tory rule. I just can’t decide which of the two, Truss or Sunak, will appeal less.

Theluggage15 · 20/07/2022 17:00

Bloody hell I’m so relieved about this. It was one of the things I was really worrying about when I can’t sleep at night, thinking about the horrendous implications of having her as PM.

SSReye · 20/07/2022 17:03

It’s fantastic news! The country can ill afford another term of Tory rule.

It's terrible news for the safety of women and girls.

theworldhas · 20/07/2022 17:04

@Fluffymule
*The majority of people do not support the degradation of women's rights.

True. Twitter is not representative. But neither is Mumsnet. The vast majority of the populace recognise that the trans issue is a fringe issue in which a couple of demographics, one tiny (trans people), are being used as a political football as part of a larger tiresome culture war - which is a distraction from tackling jobs, housing, inflation, public services, and climate change. IE the stuff affects 100% of people massively on a daily basis rather than 0.1% of people on a daily basis.

PearlClutch · 20/07/2022 17:07

Women are 50% of the population. We're not a tiny minority.

Conflictedunicorn · 20/07/2022 17:09

Wow @Fluffymule dis you really claim women and girls were a tiny minority who don’t deserve to have their concerns listened to. Nice!

theworldhas · 20/07/2022 17:09

@SSReye
What would help the safety of women and girls is if the Tory Party would have not made huge cuts to frontline police officers. Also the huge cuts to children and young people’s services.
