THE South Yorkshire town of Cleckburton used to be a thriving industrial hub. Today its shops are boarded up and there are no jobs, hopes or prospects for its inhabitants.

im so far down south that just about everywhere else is northern

like you rufus I'm now so far south I get nose bleed if I go to Milton Keynes.

The Mash used to be very funny when I regularly read it over ten years ago. I’m not sure if it’s changed or I have, but on the odd occasion I have a look I find it almost painfully unamusing.

I’ve got no time for it at all since the piece on MN earlier in the year. Some of it was amusingly recognisable, but they characterised the gender stuff on here as women hysterically and mindlessly regurgitating views from the Daily Mail. If you’re going to poke fun at something, be accurate about it. And at the same time try not to buy into the sexist idea that women, especially ones who have kids, are some sort of intellectually low-functioning hive mind with no capacity for independent critical thinking.

This is something I've seen quite a lot over the last few days - why are women so obsessed with pronouns and toilets when there are so many more important things going on in the world, how can we be so trivial? And it's always, without exception, from the same people with pronouns in their social media bios and who have spent the last few years loudly and dare I say obsessively campaigning for the very issues they now decry as totally unimportant. Probably in the hope we feel suitably reprimanded and ashamed and shut up about it so they can merrily carry on without that annoying noise from the support humans. I can only say if pronouns etc are so trivial (despite the numerous articles in major news outlets that people die if the wrong pronoun is used) then you drop the issue first. Give it up and give us proof that you've done do, then never think of it again. We'll stop after you, not before. Because we're not stupid.

So if this is a ‘trivial issue’ for women surely it is also a ‘trivial issue’ for trans people and they will use the facilities for their sex, use the pronouns if they’re sex and stop harassing women no? Or is it only ‘trivial’ because you want women to shut up about it?

We are using standard English universally correct sex pronouns. We aren't the ones worrying about these trivial matters. In all cases, it is a tiny minority of people, almost invariably among the privileged middle-class, who then complain they want their own special pronouns (creating neopronouns is practically an industry) which may change daily that we are suddenly expected to waste a lot of mental effort on remembering - exacerbated by the logical disconnect - over more important issues. As NecessaryScene said, let's completely forget about these trivial niche quibbles and not waste another moment on them. Thank you for agreeing antifascist.
