What an embarrassment. He could have resigned two days ago with good grace. They'll all be skint from the leaving collections. Wonder if it will be a collective huge leaving bash or lots and lots of parties? 🥳 Honestly the Man is unhinged.

I hope tomorrow brings good news.

Id say the summer will be like a big thunderstorm and then there will be peace.

Cuck00soup · 07/07/2022 07:09

Liz Truss is at in important meeting in Bali. Would it be impudent to suggest this is why she has delayed her resignation?

And her letter will be out the moment her plane lands back in the UK?

achillestoes · 07/07/2022 07:14

Truss will be hoping it will be all be over and she’ll still be in a nice hotel in Bali painting her toenails.

I know some weren’t keen on the rule change for confidence vote but I think it’s lucky it’s an option as we don’t have a functioning government right now

PomegranateOfPersephone · 07/07/2022 07:20

Suella Braverman will stand for leadership. I think she might be good.

achillestoes · 07/07/2022 07:33

George Freeman, Science Minister, has resigned (he capitulated ages ago but that’s a separate issue).

Oh, come off it. She's embarrassingly bad as Attorney-General, she'd be an utter disaster as PM.

I suspect she's doing a Major. He kept well out of the way with supposed tooth problems when everyone was knifing Thatcher, then wandered in to win the leadership election as the nice guy/safe pair of hands.

achillestoes · 07/07/2022 07:54

I’d be happy if we landed on Truss, Javid, Zahawi. Hunt and Wallace are unknown quantities. Mordaunt would be a disaster.

Braverman is having a laugh.

What about Badenoch?

PomegranateOfPersephone · 07/07/2022 08:09

I wasn’t impressed by Javid insisting that if people wanted to work in care (low paid, unsociable hours, hard work physically and emotionally, always recruiting) then they should be fine with being required to receive vaccinations. Testing 2 or 3 times a week is enough.

Equally with working in the NHS.

achillestoes · 07/07/2022 08:12

@PomegranateOfPersephone

I agree generally but I think that was a borderline decision - wrong but not so wrong in the circumstances that I don’t get why it happened.

OP posts:
achillestoes · 07/07/2022 08:13

Badenoch is excellent but I don’t know if she’s ready.

Wallace is right with his tweet I was musing he needs to stay for safety of country reasons earlier

Also the idea that the rules can’t change - they are 1922 rules not any government I’m not actually sure what system Labour would use

R4 breaking news

Johnson standing down

mrshoho · 07/07/2022 09:20

Finally resigning today. phew.

MarshaBradyo · 07/07/2022 09:30

People will have to talk about something else - on here too 😀

wellhelloitsme · 07/07/2022 09:32

Wow, it's confirmed. He's off.

As someone said earlier I wonder if Carrie is steaming the wallpaper off and popping it in her bags as we speak.

FigRollsAlly · 07/07/2022 09:39

Now the conversation will move on to who replaces him and who can win a general election. Being strong on women’s rights from a GC point of view won’t be seen as a priority vs all the other important issues unless it’s seen as a wedge issue and that risks GC views being conflated with Trump style politics by left leaning parties. We really need more time to uncapture those parties but realistically that would take too long. So I don’t know where we go from here, just hope that whoever ends up in charge listens to common sense?

'a new leader to be in place by the conference in October'

wellhelloitsme · 07/07/2022 10:09

Having to switch from Sky News to somewhere else, Kay Burley constantly interrupting Beth so much it's distracting as well as rude as fuck!

AmaryIlis · 07/07/2022 10:13

Threatening to stay on till the Autumn. I don't see how it's possible. Who can credibly agree to continue to serve in his cabinet having said that he lacks integrity and honesty? It's not as if he is even prepared to accept that he has done anything other than forget that Pincher was a sex pest.

RedToothBrush · 07/07/2022 10:24

Interesting thing just happened...

Sky news saying that theyve been told that johnson will stay until the autumn.

However they were just interviewing a minister who said er no, how is he going to do that no one wants to serve with him. They just had another journalists saying theyve been talking to others, saying similar.

And there has been another minister who has resigned SINCE the news that johnson will go.

Indeed the rumour circulating that johnson himself is saying he is staying until the tory party conference in october.

The party is talking about a constitutional crisis in the sense of having a lame duck pm, and the inability to put in big policy changes - the johnson camps seems to be saying that they intend to do a big tour and big policy changes as a fan fare (and potential bid for a future retry at being PM).

Once again the thing coming from Johnson seems to be all about his legacy rather than the best interests of the country.

But the mood amongst the party is that they have had enough of Johnson's manipulation of everything as its damaging the party reputation.

I am now wondering what time we will actually see Johnson. Its not nearly 10.30am. There is clearly a row going on.

MarshaBradyo · 07/07/2022 10:26

12.30 was suggested earlier
