So Red he is planning on telling people he is resigning but has no intention to do so.

Melroses · 07/07/2022 10:29

Well he has not resigned yet................

3luckystars · 07/07/2022 10:41

he is stalling!! There is no getting him out of there 😆

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 07/07/2022 10:42

Agree, and the minister for the Cabinet Office says he doesn't know and wouldn't preempt the statement

3luckystars · 07/07/2022 10:44

I just read that as ‘Cabaret Office’ and it really made me laugh. Welcome to the show!!

Perfect. Funnily enough I was just thinking how theatrical this all is. Greatest Show on Earth ...

Money makes their world go round...

I expect there will be celebratory Friday drinks for lots of relieved Tories tomorrow now he's finally caved.

I'm not a Tory, pleased a man with so little integrity has gone but now wondering who on earth we'll get next!

@PomegranateOfPersephone

I agree generally but I think that was a borderline decision - wrong but not so wrong in the circumstances that I don’t get why it happened.

Nah, it was inexcusable stupidity. He was told well in advance that people would leave, that it wasn't going to be a choice between unvaccinated and vaccinated care workers but unvaccinated care workers and unfilled vacancies, and he was too arrogant to accept it. That one terrible decision has significantly exacerbated the bed blocking problem in the NHS.

achillestoes · 07/07/2022 11:16

@ApplesandBunions

It’s not the decision I would have made, but it was an extraordinary situation.

It was an extraordinary situation that presented him with one clearly wrong decision and one clearly right decision. He made the clearly wrong one, and the NHS suffered for it.

achillestoes · 07/07/2022 11:23

@ApplesandBunions

I understand your perspective. I’m more forgiving of mistakes made during that period.

I do not forgive that one, especially because there's no reason to think he wouldn't be that arrogant again. He got perilously close to making the same mistake with the NHS too. That arrogance is troubling.

MarshaBradyo · 07/07/2022 11:47

He did change his mind re NHS

I remember being very against it (and many disagreeing with me) and I was glad he reassessed and changed the outcome

Eventually, after having caused lots of completely avoidable trouble and work for an already struggling organisation. I do remember your posts.

Melroses · 07/07/2022 12:42

Is he actually resigning now - I am not sure that he actually mentioned it?

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 07/07/2022 12:51

Nor me Melrose he just said from next week they would start looking to replace him.

I think he will do everything he can to stay on. I think we are in dangerous times.

I agree. The Tory party’s job now is to evict him immediately.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 07/07/2022 12:58

Mentioning Ukraine in the leaving speech is worrying imo. When would be a bad time to install a new PM...when we are at war.

He was always going to mention Ukraine, it's his default.

Also, there have been loads of wars where the UK replaced the PM in the middle of it. WW2, for example. It's not a concern in itself.

It didn’t seem to be a problem for us when Churchill took over. Of course we were actually at war then - unlike now.

mrshoho · 07/07/2022 14:35

Who would benefit from him staying til Autumn? No one. He must go immediately. Every day he remains there is detrimental to the country let alone the party. What a disaster. If he won't go then they must use whatever means; 1922 ? to oust him.

Provenceinthesummer · 07/07/2022 14:40

Get ready folks for savage austerity, tax cuts and a bonfire of social care policy/ levelling up/NHS/benefits funds and everything else Boris has pledged to do.
The rolling money train Boris was so intent on delivering to level up that so incensed the party has had the brakes screeched on.
I hope you are all prepared for what is coming next.
The next leader will have to ‘prove’ that they have listened and are ready to back strict conservatism, enough to make Maggie Thatcher look like a hippie socialist.

3luckystars · 07/07/2022 14:45

Yikes

MarshaBradyo · 07/07/2022 14:54

Provence you may well be right as much as the left hated Johnson he loved to spend, and he had strong detractors in his own party who didn’t like it
