Well Boris can only go if he resigns. He’s technically safe for another year, because he already survived a vote of no confidence.

They’ll change the rules. They’ve U turned on just about everything else.

Somethingneedstochange · 05/07/2022 20:42

Ah I see the boris post has been deleted. Savid and Rishi get a lot more flak than BoJo off rascist ignorant pillocks.

Boris needs sacking. He and other MP's partied while our queen mourned alone. I know The Queen seeked legal advice to sack him when he suspended parliament

Agree, she would be a disaster for us. Caroline Nokes is another one who would be very bad news so I hope she’s not a contender either.

Caroline Nokes! Ha!

No, I don't think so.

Penny "trans men are men and trans women are women" Mordaunt is a favourite to replace BJ if he goes, so it may well be battle stations soon, ladies. Again.

PearlClutch · 05/07/2022 20:47

Cripes.

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 20:49

Penny Mordaunt is a good MP but she doesn’t have the experience to be PM, aside from the obvious GC issue.

I'd even take Jacob Rees Mogg over her if it came to it.

Nadine Dorries has shown herself to be utterly incompetent in her current post. She cannot even grasp her brief. I don't think I have heard anyone sound so utterly ridiculous. The fact that people on here think she should be in charge of the health service is completely baffling.

FigRollsAlly · 05/07/2022 20:55

BBC saying Steve Barclay tipped to be health secretary.

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 20:56

It’s Steve.

BBC saying Steve Barclay tipped to be health secretary.

Desperately trying to buy off the backbenchers on the 1922 committee so they don't change the rules to have another no confidence vote immediately. So transparent.

I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting that

FortonServices · 05/07/2022 21:02

out of all the strikes rail has the weakest position

But a teacher strike would really hit mumsnetters hard.

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 21:06

I haven’t seen that Dorries can’t grasp her brief. I’ve seen that people seem to think she’s a moron when she doesn’t make many more gaffes than other cabinet ministers, and frankly I think that’s because she’s northern, blonde and didn’t go to a top university - exactly what the left is always suggesting they want to see.

I don’t think she’s the best candidate. But anyway, Barclay is the newly anointed one.

@user1471504747

People have their own perceptions. I don’t think Johnson is a misogynist or a racist. A lech and a lazy drunk, possibly. But anyway, let’s agree on one thing: the fat lady is singing.

I think he is mainly a morally weak person, he tends to take the easiest path when it comes to those kinds of choices.

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 21:14

@MangyInseam

I agree on some points but on others, no. It would have been easy for him to surrender to the pressure to ban trans conversion therapy. He didn’t. It would have been easy for him to talk a big game about Ukraine but not supply them with the means to defend themselves. He didn’t. He might easily have used New Zealand tactics in dealing with Covid. Etc.

He’s morally weak in areas.

Because we want massive numbers of drugs deaths and a shit education and health system?

No thanks

England certainly had a high amount of drug related deaths, a very shite health service (worse than Scotland - although both are shite) and a fractured and very shite education system when I was born and raised there, and when I lived and worked there.

The NHS and life in Scotland is better than in Northern England. Maybe there’s a different England that we in the North haven’t experienced.

Coming from an English person who has lived and worked in both countries. Scotlands public services are better.

Tirednurse1 · 05/07/2022 21:21

GrouchyKiwi · 05/07/2022 19:46

Fuck no. Have you seen the state of pretty much everything in Scotland?

It’s no better in England. I’d actually say it’s worse. The SNP aren’t great but have done a better job than the Tories.

I’ve lived and worked in both England and Scotland. English living in Scotland.

Tirednurse1 · 05/07/2022 21:24

Zone2NorthLondon · 05/07/2022 19:10

Yes I am serious, I anticipate a snap election and he’ll win
BJ will hammer into the unions and public sector, instigate a hysteria about strikes etc. He was the BBC cowed and a huge right wing media presence

I think you are right.

I imagine he might have a slightly reduced majority, but a GE win is a mandate for his corruption.

He’ll come for the RMT, the teachers or the NHS unions (or all three) the way MT went for the miners. And many of his voters will love it.

Tbf there’s good reason after the horror show of Covid closures. I doubt the public would be happy

but other services are more critical when it comes to strikes - eg fire service or Drs

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 21:27

Barclay is first in his family to attend university, went to Cambridge and Sandhurst.

My response to Javid resigning was 'what, again'?
With Sunak going as well this is clearly internal power politics at play.
They do not care about trust and honesty etc any more than the next financiers. Don't kid yourselves that they do. They could very easily have gone before over Johnson's lies, or never joined him in the first place. There's been enough of them.

I think people in politics who are effective/successful, or at least somewhat those things, tend to deal with the situation before them, or the realistic possibilities that appear to be on offer. If that includes BJ as PM they are just going to get on with it.

That's not going to be an absolute, most people have a line, but I don't think idealists are usually all that effective in politics.

I think the party has decided BJ is a liability and they need a replacement in good time to reset for the next election. He may kick and scream but if they want him gone I think it will be quick.

How though? How can you get rid of a PM if he won’t do the decent thing and resign when not wanted? I’ve been saying it for a couple of years - Bozo will never resign. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks. So he’ll HAVE to be sacked. And the PM is sacked….how?
