If we had a general election now I can see us ending up with some sort of Labour/LibDem/SNP coalition and any hope of common sense on self id will be gone forever. If an election can be staved off for another year or so there just might be a chance of the left leaning parties seeing sense (well, probably not the LibDems or SNP).

FortonServices · 05/07/2022 20:04

Tell you what, though, if you lot were in charge the UK would be in a better place.

At least the general public would learn how to park correctly 😂

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 19:38

But my money would be on a hung Parliament.

And mine, with Conservative majority but not enough to rule.

I think the contenders to replace Boris are at best just as bad, but generally a lot worse.

The resignations now show no honour, they are rats deserting a sinking ship, happy to feast on dubious grain whilst it filled their bellies but jumping as the food runs out.

The worst type of politician, no honour or loyalty to anyone but themselves .

It’s very concerning

many seem happy for this to happen but I’m not ready to give up on women’s rights

Cuck00soup · 05/07/2022 20:06

Twitter discussing 3 other resignations of junior government ministers, including Brandon Lewis' PPS.

I've lost count already.

bellinisurge · 05/07/2022 20:07

If Labour persist with their TWAW nonsense, re-election will be an open goal for a Tory party with a new leader. They can put Johnsonwank "behind them" and go for it. Which may be horrible for LGB people and anyone genuinely struggling with their gender identity. And for the country if the Tories win.

Mind you; given the months to come, recession, strikes, unrest, etc, possibly more covid, Russia, etc - if it was me, Boris, I'd take the lucrative after-dinner speeches on how you battled covid and fucking run for it. I can't actually imagine wanting to be PM over the next few years.

I reckon that was why he was allowed in. To be a disposable PM to get Brexit done. They had to do it, or undermine democracy, but it was political suicide partly because it was almost 50:50, partly because it was something everyone in government knew was a terrible idea.

They didn’t know there was a pandemic, a war and a cost of living crisis coming to mask it, or he’d never have got a look in.

Cuck00soup · 05/07/2022 20:09

Channel 4 news just said they had hoped to appoint new Health sec and Chancellor this evening.

Do you think they are a long long way down their list 🤣 of people to call? (And his many before they get to Nadine Dorries).

Dave20 · 05/07/2022 20:09

I don’t think it’s entirely down to morals though.

Sunak has resigned because he’s realised the country’s finances are going up shit creek. He’s been borrowing billions and can’t see a way out of it balancing the books. If he quits, it’s not his problem anymore.

Javid is health Secretary. Who the hell wants that job? The NHS is a failing system , a sinking ship. Understaffed and cannot ever be realistically given enough money in it’s current model. Javid also taking the easy way out.

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 19:17

An election would be a massive gamble, but I wouldn’t put it past him.

Point. He is a gambler.

MarshaBradyo · 05/07/2022 20:10

The two crises we face worry me hugely

Health and the economy

Dave20 · 05/07/2022 20:12

Well Boris can only go if he resigns. He’s technically safe for another year, because he already survived a vote of no confidence.

MsMarvellous · 05/07/2022 20:12

JuSt watched Keir Starmer speak about to his response. Setting aside everything else, he was just in a repetitive loop. That weird, political soundbite, response. No honesty to it at all.

MarshaBradyo · 05/07/2022 20:14

I just heard the phrase democracy ruined by the media

I find Brexit, Covid and this all depressing for various reasons - but the role of the media has played a big part we lose our heads

FortonServices · 05/07/2022 20:18

Agree but he's left it too late. He will be blamed for tanking the economy.

Stolen from twatter:

Who is in charge of Vice in the Conservative Party now the Tory Vice Chair has resigned?

Obviously he wasn't doing his job properly and wasn't doing enough vice!

My first thought too. Plenty of Chairs for vice in the Tory party. I was however, very surprised to learn they even had an ethics advisor. I hear he’s not being replaced (obviously not much for him to do)

Dave20 · 05/07/2022 20:21

Whatever happens I just don’t think Kier Starmer is the best alternative.

ElbowGreaseLightning · 05/07/2022 20:28

I like Savid Javed. I don't think he has major baggage either and is a decent bloke. I'd like to see him as PM.

Agree, it is a fucking gift what the Conservatives are giving the opposition and yet they are weak, disinterested and frankly making themselves unelectable.

And with Durham Police yet to announce whether he and Angela Rayner et al are to receive fines for Covid breaches, it could be we have leadership battles on both sides of the House very shortly.

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 20:34

Looking pretty clear Johnson is going nowhere. Zahawi just walked into no 10 and he’ll be Chancellor or Health Secretary tomorrow. He’s a fairly good egg.

OP posts:
achillestoes · 05/07/2022 20:35

@Fluffymule

It would be a shame for Starmer to have to resign over a beer. That’s not what democracy is meant to be. But he said he would, so he’ll have to if he’s fined.

MarshaBradyo · 05/07/2022 20:35

Look out for Simon Clark

just not someone weak for chancellor

MarshaBradyo · 05/07/2022 20:38

Clarke rather

achillestoes · 05/07/2022 20:40

@Clymene

It did impress itself upon me, yes. 😂
