"Spreading false information to provoke hatred and distrust by preying on people's fears" is a "classic far right recruitment tactic", apparently.

Nice to see them admit it so boldly...

This is so bad I would be cringing, except there are real consequences for people who believe sex is real and sometimes matters. Misogyny writ large.

CraggyIslandTouristBoard · 15/06/2022 21:35

Jesus f-ing christ.

Captured, much?!

Any Unison members in this group?

Waitwhat23 · 15/06/2022 21:37

So glad I gave up my Unison membership years ago. Apart from being absolutely useless when supporting employees through a grievance process, they have also made it clear that they hate women.

Ides · 15/06/2022 21:39

Sex is indeed real. What these people don't seem to understand is that possessing a penis and a pair of testicles, or even once having possessed a penis and a pair of testicles, makes you instantly much more powerful and dangerous to anyone who has never had a penis and a pair of testicles.

If only opinion-formers were to read J K Rowling's views, and those of the Daily Mail, more. Then they'd realise just how massively and unfairly powerful having a penis and a pair of bollocks can make a person.

I think we should all burst into tears more often to make the point.

I am a Unison member by default (my professional body fees also pays Unison fees). Encouraging employers to become Stonewall champions is a nice touch there.

Personally I want the union and the rep to be more concerned about the fact that vast numbers of us are really worried about not being able to afford to go to work.

I am dismayed that the US far right myth is being peddled, they need to do better.

MaudeYoung · 15/06/2022 21:52

Unison is not doing itself any favours here, is it?

A tainted union and, by association, Unison taints the Labour Party.

BettyFilous · 15/06/2022 21:52

If the unions keep this up future governments won’t need to try and get punitive union busting legislation through. Members will have voted with their feet and these captured unions collapsed into a self-regarding circle jerk. Seriously as a union you have one job. One. Job. If you can’t represent and stand for all of your members, what’s the point of you existing?

Birdsweepsin · 15/06/2022 22:10

It's like ground elder, or bindweed. You think you've seen the last of it and it pops up again, somewhere else. Unions now, hey ho.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 15/06/2022 22:11

I used to work for them.

Very glad I don't anymore.

Cattenberg · 15/06/2022 22:21

I’m a member of Unison. Sadly, it’s the only union my employer recognises. But there’s no sign of Stonewall in my organisation yet.

One of my friends was a Unison rep for years, but she became disillusioned with them. She later joined Unite and said they were far better.

ControversialOpening · 15/06/2022 22:30

Unison have been completely neutered - they are a union that cannot stand up for their members any longer.

Much as Stonewall became all about trans when they realised they’d won their battles but didn’t want to give up the well-paid cushy positions, Unison is trying to claim it is achieving something while actually doing nothing of any relevance to most of its paying members.

I almost joined a couple of years ago, but I investigated what they’d achieved recently and found it to be nothing. I almost wish I had joined so I could tell them why I’d be leaving.

TheBiologyStupid · 15/06/2022 22:41

Nice to see them admit it so boldly...
Indeed, DeaconBoo!

GCITC · 15/06/2022 22:41

I've cancelled my membership off the back of this.

I don't believe they would support me if I were to be discriminated against on the basis of my beliefs.

God help anyone at work that states they believe in the material reality of sex and that men can't become women.

Selkiesarereal · 15/06/2022 22:42

I read an article recently which I will paraphrase as follows:

Unions should be sticking up for the rights of all workers, not get sucked into this divisive subject, this plays into employers hands of divide and conquer, workers shouldn’t be hounded out of work by believing that sex is real, etc.

And what fat right publication this was in - The Morning Star. Union’s should wake up soon before they become completely obsolete they need to represent their members as otherwise they will leave.

mrshoho · 16/06/2022 06:43

Ffs I'm a unison member. The safety net for my work in a SEN school. I've never had to contact them personally but they were helpful in guiding us during a TUPE transfer/academy takeover. I want to cancel my membership now.

NothingIsWrong · 16/06/2022 06:58

I'm eligible to join unison and has been dithering. Not going to bother now I think!

JacquelinePot · 16/06/2022 07:17

Next motion on the agenda: the earth is flat, the sun revolves around it and the moon is made of cheese.

Wtf are they playing at?!

mrshoho · 16/06/2022 07:21

I'm flouncing out of there today!

KittenKong · 16/06/2022 07:34

So they have green lighted any male to go after anyone (mostly women) who don’t chant the mantra, who object to mixed sex loos/changing rooms/showers etc, who don’t use the demanded pronouns, say ‘guys’, looks at them ‘funny’. So they are now going to spend effort demanding maternity/menopause rights for everyone, demand companies give time off for ‘gender’ stuff etc etc etc.

TitInATrance · 16/06/2022 07:41

I was a rep, retired member.
Not surprised but particularly disappointed in Unison who were always a particularly pro-woman union.

However, I am aware of two TW in my former workplace who did pass to anyone they hadn’t outed themselves to - so whilst GC I am a little bit conflicted.

Floisme · 16/06/2022 08:58

You would think that a UK trade union would at least show some basic awareness of the employment tribunals for Maya Forstater, Allison Bailey, James Esses and Jo Phoenix, all happening under their noses while they witter on about the USA.

Tanith · 16/06/2022 09:44

They are the union for Early Years and nursery workers.

SunbowRainshine31 · 16/06/2022 10:22

Unison quite rightly points out transphobia is used as a far-right recruitment tool via propaganda.

One angle of which is to pretend transphobia and bigotry, is just 'legitimate concerns' or 'sex is real' whilst fearmongering and demonising trans people, especially trans women.

This forum responds with the EXACT same far-right propaganda, fearmongering, and demonising trans women, unison are pointing out.

You know, anyone would think Unison was bang on the money here.

They so blatantly ARE.

mrshoho · 16/06/2022 10:28

Hope you are reporting the transphobia and bigotry posts you see then @SunbowRainshine31 . I don't see any?

RhubarbCrumbled · 16/06/2022 10:36

I've just cancelled my Unison membership and given them the full reason why. They're sending me the complaints procedure so that I can send extended information too.
I'm so flipping ANGRY!!!
