Bingo card. We need
House of Lords
Supreme Court
Strasbourg
for important witnesses

WallaceinAnderland · 26/05/2022 14:19

Why can none of them answer a straightforward question, do they think it's a trap?

They do, they are trying to work out where the question will lead.

OP posts:
WookeyHole · 26/05/2022 14:27

Going to have to add 'parliament' to the bingo card.

NecessaryScene · 26/05/2022 14:27

is there anything in the claim that barristers - as a matter of course - can't make allegations against organisations?

Maya Forstater has just been reposting a set of allegations against her and LGBA by a load of barristers.

I am struck by the contrast between the view that Allison's public opinion about Stonewall would have breached the BSB social media rules and the conduct of barristers that routinely feel entitled to call LGBA a "hate group"

SH denies being an activist and describes herself as "a lawyer who gives independent legal advice".

But she also identifies as being a trans campaigner. She is contradicting herself.

Independent legal advice which seeks to undermine the Equality Act....

A few additional pieces of background:
SH was a speaker at TransJustice Conference, 20 May 2016, hosted by GCC, covering: ‘Current challenges faced by trans and gender non-conforming people in the criminal justice system’, such as ‘the detention of trans women in male prisons’, and the ‘effect of non-disclosure of gender identity and history on the validity of sexual consent (i.e. so-called “gender deception” prosecutions)’.

tabbycatstripy · 26/05/2022 14:29

Yes, it doesn't make sense to say that you align yourself as a 'progressive' barrister with a certain aspirational status quo in terms of the rights you think a group of people should have, and then try to maintain your neutrality. A person without strong views on trans rights and women's rights might be neutral. A person who spends their whole career trying to advance them isn't.

Signalbox · 26/05/2022 14:30

WookeyHole · 26/05/2022 14:25

If the closing submissions are 20th June, what's happening tomorrow?

It might just be a non sitting day. If the witnesses have all been heard then the next stage is closing submissions but I expect the parties will need time to prepare them.

tabbycatstripy · 26/05/2022 14:30

Harrison's witness statement claims that she contacted a hotline at the BS Ethics Committee, and the person who contacted her was McGahey, rather than her selecting McGahey (although she did know her and had been on the other side of a case from her in the past).

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/05/2022 14:30

TheClitterati · 26/05/2022 12:33

anyone else think that this alleged huge vulnerability of so many trans identified people, preceeded them being trans & it is casued by a varity of factors that don't get explored. It is because of this vulnerability that they are very susceptiable to those pushing gender idology and were lead down the path of gender ideology and delivered into the conclusion that they must be in the "wrong body" & are trans.

Absolutely this!

Gabcsika · 26/05/2022 14:31

More waffle.

Crazylazydayz · 26/05/2022 14:31

How much obfuscation not to be seen as bascially using her legal skills to support Trans Rights. There is no problem with that but recongnise that an equaly valid position is a person using their legal skills to support Womens Riights.

WallaceinAnderland · 26/05/2022 14:32

SH described GCC as getting into campaigning, lobbying, etc. to limit need for litigation.

That went well for them didn't it

GAHgamel · 26/05/2022 14:32

What was that burbled intervention from Hochhauser there, when SH looked like she was about to be forced to answer "yes" to that question?

nauticant · 26/05/2022 14:33

SH seems to be retrofitting an activity for herself, in the past, where she was engaged in non-activism activism. Clear as mud.

CriticalCondition · 26/05/2022 14:34

SH could see more effective ways to change things for trans people other than litigation. Wider and more different. Was interested in that.

WallaceinAnderland · 26/05/2022 14:34

SH doesn't recall reading MB's email but, er huge pause

GAHgamel · 26/05/2022 14:35

SH seems to have mentally ground to halt while reading that email from MB.

Roseglen84 · 26/05/2022 14:35

The working group is now a 'loose collection of people' who couldn't agree on anything and did nothing whatsoever.

WookeyHole · 26/05/2022 14:36

Mumsnet shout out!

WinterTrees · 26/05/2022 14:36

"We had no position on this issue as a chambers."

WTF???

WallaceinAnderland · 26/05/2022 14:36

SH says chambers had no position on trans rights v womens rights

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 26/05/2022 14:36

Mumsnet shout-out!

WallaceinAnderland · 26/05/2022 14:37

SH suddenly speechless
