drwitch

A certain lawyer who has an aversion to semi-urban canines was shit-posting on Twitter this morning about the case relating to the single-sex rape crisis counselling. He showed that same misunderstanding, asking in bewildered tones 'who benefits?' from the case, and saying 'certainly not rape victims'. No understanding was shown that for female rape victims, the refusal of an organisation to consider their need for a space in which the only other people present are female, can be a terrible detriment. He seems entirely unwilling to put himself in the woman's shoes and see that a judgment requiring them to do so would benefit the woman, whether he agrees with that or not. It's so odd.

Ah, I saw a few sub tweets & didn't realise who had prompted them. Makes sense now.

CriticalCondition · 05/05/2022 11:19

Nice comment from the judge on the use of pronouns in observer names that whilst it seems to be common these days she can't see why it is necessary.Smile

TheBiologyStupid · 05/05/2022 11:20

Omambala isn't very impressive.

tabbycatstripy · 05/05/2022 11:22

"I wouldn't describe it as a benefit, though."

She walked into that one.

nauticant · 05/05/2022 11:23

For those not able to listen to the hearing, the discussion about pronouns was in relation to EJ discussing identifiers containing content for the purposes of (mild) harassment and how some, such as "TERF", were objectionable (although AB specifically said she wasn't bothered) and others, such as pronouns, were not. AB said she wasn't bothered by pronoun declarations either.

tabbycatstripy · 05/05/2022 11:26

People putting their pronouns on aren't harassing anyone. It's pointless, but harmless.

Pyjamagame · 05/05/2022 11:26

They should have settled. This is a lot of sunshine

Only if reported widely in MSM and even then a lot would depend on their editorialisation.

tabbycatstripy · 05/05/2022 11:32

"It's like a criminal protection racket."

No holds barred here.

ickky · 05/05/2022 11:33

Perfect analogy by AB - Stonewall are like a Criminal Protection Racket.

People putting their pronouns on aren't harassing anyone.

People have said this because AHF and similar are being identified in the chat box as inappropriate. Which was in turn responded in a tit for tat way because other people have created taunting pseudonyms like the ones about chocolate bars and the GC_FckUps one.

ResisterRex · 05/05/2022 11:34

There's been a repetition of "regarding the GRA becoming law". As AB says - just now - it was already law. The changes still under consultation were not.

We're obviously all very mature people. :)

CriticalCondition · 05/05/2022 11:37

IO now repeating the phrase protection racket.
Yes, the more that phrase is uttered, the better.

I am a very mature in age woman, but have a very juvenile sense of humour, I am ashamed to admit the I enjoyed The inbetweeners. Blush

Allison making excellent point that once you have signed up to be a Stonewall Champion you can't question or go against Stonewall's expectation or requests in litigation without a risk of loss of reputational damage. Effectively they've got you in their grasp.

Let's have a pause while we think about all the police forces and government departments that are Stonewall Champions.

Exactly - look what SW tried to do to the EHRC when they escaped their "grasp".

It is sobering, isn't it?

Chocolate bars?!??

nauticant · 05/05/2022 11:45

Yesterday IO said that she had agreed with AH to divide up the issues to explore with AB in cross-examination so as to limit the amount of duplication that would occur. It's going to be interesting to do a compare and contrast in cross-examining styles when things are handed over to AH.

Knittyknittybangbang · 05/05/2022 11:50

Allison is doing a good job adding context to each point. No wonder IO is always trying to interrupt her.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/05/2022 11:52

Chocolate bars?!??

I think it's a reference to an incident where AB thought she was being harassed by trans activists by them throwing items into her garden. It turned out to be some neighbouring children, but it trended on Twitter, encouraged by prominent TRAs, as it was around the same time as the Wi Spa incident in the US coming to light.

Zeugma · 05/05/2022 11:53

I just noticed the elusive Michelle Brewer is logged in as one of the observers, I can’t recall whether she was there yesterday……

I read 'semi urban' as 'semi urbane' and had a vision of a fox smoking a Sobrani cigarette. 🦊

Mine will only eat roast chicken and vintage cheddar.

tabbycatstripy · 05/05/2022 11:53

Michelle Brewer's name was on the list yesterday.
