What do you notice about this panel? 🤨

(sorry if there's already a thread - couldn't see one)

Unbelievable.

And a really stupid illustration of the entire problem.

GrimDamnFanjo · 21/04/2022 13:33

They never learn do they?

DomesticatedZombie · 21/04/2022 14:06

Squinting at that picture as it's quite small - are they all male, by any chance?

The MN upgrade has made looking at images totally fucking shit, they remain miniscule when you click on them and/or are blurry. Progress eh? Much like having an all male panel regarding TW in Women's Sport.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 21/04/2022 14:12

As Maya would say, a Manel.

DameHelena · 21/04/2022 14:14

Is Blair Hamilton a woman? Or a trans-iden...
<tails off>
You know what I mean.

IcakethereforeIam · 21/04/2022 14:19

There's Blair Hamilton, called Dr., I thought they were a student?

Also, it's hopefully just badly worded, about the integration of transpeople into sport. Like the decision's already been made. Unless they mean tm into women's sports and tw into men's. That I could get behind.

Though the makeup of the panel is still ridiculous.

SapphosRock · 21/04/2022 14:20

If this is the same Blair Hamilton then I imagine they will be biased:

Think it is the same one, yes.
Nice one, BASEM Hmm

SapphosRock · 21/04/2022 14:34

Sure is:

The 32-year-old is eligible for the universities team as she is a PhD candidate at the University of Brighton, where she is researching effects of medical transition.
“Being male-born, the general argument which I’m trying to disprove in my research is that trans women have an advantage and that you’re taking a place away from a girl,” she told Pride Of The Terraces.

I thought the whole point of research was to go in with an open mind. Not to know which side you want to be the answer.

DomesticatedZombie · 21/04/2022 14:54

“Being male-born, the general argument which I’m trying to disprove in my research is that trans women have an advantage and that you’re taking a place away from a girl,”

'having a vested interest, the general argument which I'm trying to disprove in my research is that I have a vested interest'

It almost reads as satire!
Helleofabore · 21/04/2022 15:16

Aparently all the manelists also hold the same opinion around inclusion in sport too.

so… a manel set up to convince others to ignore the evidence and be nice!

Floisme · 21/04/2022 15:42

I know this point has already been made but I find it extraordinary that anyone with such a shaky grasp of the principles of research might have got funding (public funding even?) for a Phd.

MoltenLasagne · 21/04/2022 15:50

Oh FFS. Do they not even hesitate for a second when they see the panel they're on?

So not a discussion but the 'echo chamber' we're continually scolded about?

Ok, no probs. Lets sit Posie, Katie, Maya, Allison, JKR and Sharron in a studio somewhere, hand them Italian food and let them discuss it for balance. After which they can inform the male sex of their decision.

(Let the spitting of dummies begin at the mere thought.)

It's all bollocks, isn't it 😀

BethnalGreenBambinos · 21/04/2022 16:58

Tying transgender and DSD together too.

vesuvia · 21/04/2022 17:38

Quotation from Blair Hamilton: “Being male-born, the general argument which I’m trying to disprove in my research is that trans women have an advantage and that you’re taking a place away from a girl”.

Perhaps this person will eventually re-discover what science already knows - it is impossible to change sex.

A "male-born" person stays male for his whole life. Assuming a limited number of participants in a sporting event (which seems to be the overwhelming usual sporting situation apart from some fun-run type events of thousands of people), a male person is definitely taking a place away from a woman or girl, even if the male person is not faster or stronger. The male person should be excluded from female sport whether the male person has a physical advantage or not. The male person should lose a place in a female sport event in favour of a female person (even if the female person is slower or weaker than the male person) because female sport is supposed to be for female people, not for male people. Male people should do sport elsewhere.

It's a myth that transgender people are barred from sport. The actual situation is very different - opponents of transgenderism ideology want to bar male people from female sport.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 21/04/2022 17:42

Oh gosh that’s priceless. I squinted at the photos as they are small in the new look MN and so just read that as a load of men. I had to enlarge it to realise one was not identifying as a man - funny how the photo misled me, eh?

Bettygirl · 21/04/2022 17:58

A piece about Blair Hamilton which proves they are coming to this blind and not the least biased

Their response tweet is truly hilarious:

Yannis Pitsiladis was a member of the IOC committee that decided that allowing male athletes who identify as women into the female category was fair , if they reduced their testosterone to a level 10 times higher than the average female athlete. So much for fairness !!!!

nepeta · 21/04/2022 18:26

They keep on about inclusiveness when what is needed is representativeness.

Biological women are 51% of the population and they are entirely missing from that panel. Also, every single person on that panel advocates inclusion of transgender women in female elite sports.

So the panel is not representative of either the people affected by the issue or the sides taken about the issue.

Whenever I now see 'inclusive' in text I get a slight taste of vomit in my mouth because that word almost always now means that my concerns and me will be excluded in the name of some greater good. Besides, the term has become meaningless as it is almost never applied to anything that is predominantly male in the society, only to things which used to be seen as predominantly female.
