Discussing transgender inclusion of sport without a single woman in the panel

I cannot roll my eyes enough but I’m also fucking furious

Good grief! If anyone needed confirmation as to how much women's sport is being removed from women and handed over to men by men, this is it.

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 20/04/2022 19:49

They’re getting ratio’d on twitter. The fact that they include a TW but not a woman says it all!

This Blair Hamilton?

Hastings United Women chairman Billy Wood admitted that the news could be a “touchy subject,” but he defended Hamilton’s call-up to represent the women’s team.
“It’s a touchy subject, but Blair’s not one that shies away [from controversy]. And nor are we as a football club,” he told The Daily Mail.
However, Hamilton’s inclusion in the England Universities Women’s squad has sparked backlash amid the debate surrounding transgender athletes competing in women’s sports.

And no women invited to discuss the number of women footballers displaced by BH's place on the squad and use that as a discussion of fairness?

What's there to discuss?

So are you criticising that there are not enough women in the field of sports medicine?

Or that this body that this organisation/event is not representative of the community of sports medicine doctors?

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 20/04/2022 20:24

We’re criticising the fact that a session on inclusion in sport includes no women

a glance through the programme shows there are plenty of women involved with BASEM but somehow they couldn’t find a single one to include and went for a manel instead

Nothing about us without us

It's not a panel about women's inclusion in sport. It's about men discussing how they can be included in women's sport.

They are having their arsed handed to them on Twitter. Right at the same time the FSA have declared they won't put TW on women's panels.

SexTrainGlue · 20/04/2022 20:46

Do the women involved with BASEM have the same qualifications as the panelists?

I hope they do make an explanation of how the panel was selected.

But if covering medical information the sex and/or gender of the speaker shouldn't matter. Though of course there is perhaps more than biology (but that might not be what doctors are covering)

AuxArmesCitoyens · 22/04/2022 19:18

Well one panelist us a second year phD student so hardly a stellar academic career yet.

Members and panellists are not necessarily medical doctors as BASEM has members who are AHPs or students as long as their interests ally with the general area of sports and exercise medicine (e.g., physiotherapists).
