Changing rooms update

FairytaleofBykerGrove · 19/03/2022 23:10

Little update - I came on here 2 years ago because my child’s school had told us there was a child identifying as a girl who wanted to use girls communal changing rooms for swimming. It’s taken two whole years (and the child is now a boy again after getting a haircut), but the school has finally published a statement making clear that changing rooms will be separated “on an anatomical basis” and anyone uncomfortable with this could contact the school to make a different arrangement. I was on my own, challenging the school board throughout this. Although others agreed privately no other parent was willing to get involved. So you alone can make a difference.

Having categorically stated that changing rooms are allocated on an anatomical basis, they will no longer be able to allow a male child into a female are and vice versa.

Brava Fairy!

FairytaleofBykerGrove · 20/03/2022 10:37

There are still trans identifying children in the school. The statement makes clear that parents will be involved whenever a child identifies as a different gender and that changing rooms will remain single sex. There will be a third space if someone specifically requests it.

You should be so proud of yourself. It is really hard to go against the ridiculous consensus.

You have singlehandedly given those girls their privacy and dignity back.

Well Done.

ScribblingPixie · 20/03/2022 10:41

Well done! You must be feeling such a sense of achievement. It's unbelievable that no other parent was brave enough to join you but to be the key driver towards creating a sensible safeguarding policy is really admirable.

Brilliant. Privacy and dignity for all, and no trampling over the rights of girls in the name of 'kindness'.
bluedomino · 20/03/2022 10:41

Thank you on behalf of girls everywhere. Hopefully your action will cause ripples through the school and County Councils education department. Well done for being so brave.

beastlyslumber · 20/03/2022 10:43

Brilliant! Well done Flowers

JoodyBlue · 20/03/2022 10:43

Huge well done OP. I hear Stella O'Malley talking the other day. She says facing confrontation people adopt a flight, fight, freeze or appease attitude and that this response is to some extent innate. Those of us who would "fight", I.e. challenge are standing for all the others. Brava!!

Oldh · 20/03/2022 10:47

You were so brave to fight this. And so right. I may be deluded but think that if it happens again there would be more people willing to object?

Brilliant work @FairytaleofBykerGrove

And maybe they could do some work with the children (particularly the boys) about acceptance of gender non-conforming children. That a boy with long hair and a “feminine” style is still a boy - just doing masculinity differently, or - better still in the heart of this old feminist - challenging the harmful aspects of masculinity and gender stereotypes.

inventinglouise · 20/03/2022 11:23

Oh, well done!
Thank you for standing up for our daughters

Abitofalark · 20/03/2022 15:17

That's really well done. Thank you for your persistence and hard work on behalf of all.

Sadly too late for your battle, the other day I did a search for the review into the Tavistock's Gender Identity clinic by Hilary Cass and it came up with a group of parents called Our Duty, which I'd never heard of.

It's a campaigning and support group and looks very informative on the whole gender identity topic, explaining the basics and the law on education, rights of children and teachers etc, with links to other groups such as Transgender Trend and Safer Schools Alliance.

I've skimmed through some of the website and the bits that I've read look well written and very realistic for parents dealing with a child with concerns about identity.

It has put in a response to the Review of GIDs interim report, which I haven't read yet but intend to.

Well done op 💪

Cake bravo

WalrusSubmarine · 20/03/2022 19:26

Well done.

Two years is a hell of a battle but I guess that’s good because at least they actually looked at it properly. The number of organisations popping through self id in their policies on an idle Tuesday is staggering.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 20/03/2022 19:51

This shows the power of parents in safeguarding our own children. Well done FairytaleofBykerGrove. You've done something really important for children in that school. Because this is what happens to children where adults stand back from fear or embarrassment. They are hung out to dry by the useful idiots who listen to the queer theory fantasists rather than to child centred professionals and parents:

AlsoNotAGirl · 20/03/2022 19:59

Well done, unfortunately whereas there are many who agree with us it feels like the majority are looking for someone else to take up the fight.

SunniDelite · 20/03/2022 20:01

Very well done, OP! I hope more people will be brave enough to speak up....

Bellablahhole · 20/03/2022 20:01

Brilliant news! You have climbed a massive mountain to achieve this outcome @FairytaleofBykerGrove. Well done and thank you Flowers

DomesticatedZombie · 20/03/2022 20:51

OP, that is tremendous. Very well done.

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 20/03/2022 20:59

You bloody star OP!!! Ovaries of steal Flowers

Enough4me · 20/03/2022 21:00

Thanks for sharing this!
I'm going to remember the use of 'anatomical' rather than male/female in relation to facilities. No one can disagree with anatomical differences and the need for grouping based upon this. It could prove useful in future situations.

Sexnotgender · 20/03/2022 21:04

Well done ❤️

PlayerOneReady · 20/03/2022 21:28

Incredible work. Well done
