Hospital told police patient not raped because attacker transgender

A hospital told the police that a patient could not have been raped because her alleged attacker was trans, the House of Lords has heard.

The attack took place a year ago and the woman reported it but when officers contacted the hospital, which has not been named, they were told “that there was no male in the hospital, therefore the rape could not have happened”.

Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, who raised the issue during a debate on single-sex wards, continued: “They forgot that there was CCTV, nurses and observers.

“None the less, it has taken nearly a year for the hospital to agree that there was a male on the ward and, yes, this rape happened.

I’m baffled as to how it took a bloody year to acknowledge and identify the rapist! Heads bloody should roll. It looks like a cover up…

whenwillthemadnessend · 18/03/2022 18:46

This should Be Put on the main boards so more women can read this.

Selkiesarereal · 18/03/2022 18:49

I have to say that I am not surprised that the rape occurred, feminists have been shouting about safeguarding for years only to be told this wouldn’t happen. Except it did, just like we knew it would.

What I am truly shocked about is that the gaslighting by the hospital in charge to the poor victim. From a hospital, a place that is meant to help people not cover up. Also I am shocked that there has been no pause in this policy by the NHS to fully investigate into this in an attempt to put proper safeguarding procedures in place. It’s a case of carrying on as though nothing happened. How many women need to be raped in a place they are in for treatment before they actually do something.

Utterly shameful.

Sadly it won't be allowed we are in the naughty corner for a reason talking sense about safeguarding we should be knitting or getting stains out
AlisonDonut · 18/03/2022 19:05

The mistake you are making there is that you think women have rights not to be raped.

The rights are all with the males who must be allowed to do what and when they want, as and when they want, wherever they want otherwise they might get upset.

Keep up! People have been banging on about this for years. Women do not matter. End of.

Can this be done? Should I make a request to MN?

@Snoodsy report your post and ask it be moved.

Nnique · 18/03/2022 19:10

No point. Just leave it here.

mumwon · 18/03/2022 19:12

i think if I were that poor woman I might go to the extreme & contact the daily mail - or even - deep breathe - the express

Rhannion · 18/03/2022 19:16

Someone could start a thread in AIBU...

Thoosa · 18/03/2022 19:16

Do you think those of us who are DV survivors or rape survivors - and any other woman for that matter if they’re up for a fight - should start seeking assurances before hospital admissions that we will be accommodated in single sex, penis-free spaces?

I’m asking because firstly - strategically- this needs to be widely, nationally, challenged at grass root level, before assaults happen. Secondly - personally - because I’m due to have surgery again this year and it makes me uneasy.

How does everyone think that would go?

Nnique · 18/03/2022 19:21

@Rhannion

Someone could start a thread in AIBU...
If they do they will need to make a VERY STRONG case in the OP as to why it should stay there. Otherwise it will just be moved.

Of course it’s entirely right that more women should be made aware of how serious this is and it’s entirely wrong that thread after thread about extremely serious and concerted attacks on women and children’s safety, dignity and well-being should be shunted over to the ‘naughty corner’.

ResisterRex · 18/03/2022 19:23

Some people don't want us to talk about this case

They'll like the others that the Baroness has, even less then:

twitter.com/Baroness_Nichol/status/1504884038137491461

How many raped women is enough raped women before a sex offenders' charter is shut off? Do we need to be in the 10s or the 100s? More?

Thoosa · 18/03/2022 19:23

X post.

As soon as I posted that last, I thought it should have been standalone.

So I posted this:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4508326-To-seek-assurances-that-I-ll-be-put-on-a-single-sex-ward?watched=1

Personal questions are fine on AIBU surely?

Letscreateaclassic · 18/03/2022 19:34

I have read most of the thread but not all so apologies if this has been covered already but why is this not being reported on the BBC news website or The Guardian? Why is this not being reported in EVERY paper? What frightens me is not just the widespread hatred of women and dismissal of their concerns but that now the assault on women's rights are seen as so unimportant, so easy to ignore that these horrendous acts barely get MENTIONED.

The only thing that gives me hope is knowing that I am not alone in my anger and grief at what is happening.

The poor children growing up into all this.

Theunamedcat · 18/03/2022 19:42

So aibu is going as expected 🤔 "the amount of trans people in hospital it tiny"

It's rapists that are the issue and hospitals protecting them

Nnique · 18/03/2022 19:46

A lot of people are utterly incapable of connecting the dots, sadly.

Arrived just in time to see the totally unapologetic, renewed comment disappear!!

It was amazing while it lasted @RufustheFloralmissingreindeer

And I have made a note that "DC" could enter a new MN meaning Grin

That is a known name, as it were, arguing with you.

You might as well ask Lynne Featherstone to respect your request for a single-sex ward.
