  • haven't had a chance to keep an eye on his tribunal, but from what I'm reading:

'Dr Michael Webberley applied for voluntary erasure from the GMC register. The Tribunal say it is "unfortunate" that was not determined prior to the hearing today.

MW had two requests for postponement declined & has now provided new medical evidence for an adjournment'

For the love of all things good Mumsnet, what is going on with paragraphs!,

Paras are fine for me

Thank you for the update. 'failed to provide good clinical care to patients and was dishonest.' cripes.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 18/05/2022 18:46

The tribunal found Michael Webberley's failure to provide good clinical care for patients related to consultations, history taking, examination, diagnosis, prescribing, delegated communication, follow up, assessment, working within the limits of his expertise and the guidance.

Patient consent forms contained information that was untrue and informed consent was not obtained. Michael Webberley failed to establish an adequate Multi-Disciplinary Team. The tribunal also found his actions were dishonest.

Terrible and shameful treatment of vulnerable children. I wonder how many individuals and groups who have referred children or celebrated this doctor in any way will apologise? tumbleweed-

SpindleInTheWind · 18/05/2022 18:51

There were a number of allegations of dishonesty.

Allegations 83- 88 concerning facts on operation of Gender GP & the involvement of suspended Gender GP, Dr Helen Webberley were found proven.

I think this is interesting in terms of what happens with HW's case. Dishonesty in doctors is taken very seriously indeed.

Imnotavetbut · 18/05/2022 18:56

Paragraphs are most definitely not showing up for me, it's since the upgrade 🤨

Yes, dishonestly and Doctors don't mix well. The determination is, as always, very thorough. As much as I'd like them just to throw the book at these people and find everything proven, it does look like a just and fair process. I'd hate that job (the minutiae of detail would drive me crackers) but I'm pleased that we do have people with the skills and patience to wade through the evidence as they have.

His wife is DARVOing over on twitter right now

Yeah that'll fix everything, ranting on Twitter in full public glare

MrsOvertonsWindow · 18/05/2022 21:48

It does suggest there's some hope that the medical profession is not totally captured? It also chimes in with some of the revelations in the interim report from the Cass review in terms of failure to provide good clinical care for children.

BoreOfWhabylon · 18/05/2022 22:02

Good. Will be interesting to see if this is picked up by the press.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 18/05/2022 22:08

I don't understand why Dr Mr W has been found to be dishonest, but Dr Mrs W was not in her own hearing...but that she and Gender GP was found to be involved in this.

Am looking forward to someone clever translating it all for me.

Some of the charges related to Dr H as she was part of GenderGP at the time. The findings for Dr H have been arrived at but no decision yet on what the consequences will be for Dr H (nor for Dr M).

Does that help? I'm certainly no expert, but that's my understanding.

All the supportive comments, some from former patients. Reminds me of when Shipman was arrested and everyone saying what a good Doctor he was.

Christ, I'm not sure I can think of any aspects of a GP's clinical care provision that isn't on that list!

Mumsnut · 19/05/2022 16:56

The Daily Mail has just led on this (can’t link from phone)

hrey are pulling no punches.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 19/05/2022 17:26

"My heart and soul goes out to my husband. While he was in hospital today having a big operation, he was sent the damning list of proven allegations that the GMC have found against him.
'He hasn’t been able to tell his side of the story and he wasn’t able to be represented or to ask experts who truly understand the needs of trans people.
'I know that he has helped so many trans people, and I know that you will wish him well in his retirement. He has served the NHS for a long and hard career.
'His patients have always loved him, as I do"

I literally have no words for this...

BenCooperisaGod · 19/05/2022 18:13

If he wanted to tell his story so desperately he should have turned up to his fecking tribunal

geojellyfish · 19/05/2022 18:49

I don't understand why HW is complaining when he didn't put forward any evidence, witnesses or seek legal representation to defend himself?

She's critical of the expert witnesses called by GMC, but the whole point of conducting a tribunal is that it provides the opportunity to cross examine such evidence.

I wish peace of heart and mind to the families and friends of the young people at the heart of these Tribunal hearings.

I deplore the thoughtlessness of Dr HW's DARVOing and references to Dr MW's health and need for "big surgery" when we consider what so many of these young people have been through and what they've yet to face (and may include surgery). I wish the children and young people health and happiness in their future and I sincerely hope that a decent clinical service is available for them.

Imnotavetbut · 19/05/2022 20:12

Daily Mail doing what they do. It must be horrific for the family of patient W in particular. If I remember correctly I think MW tried to get the hearing delayed and offered voluntary erasure but they declined both. He didn't want it to go ahead and then didn't show up when it was confirmed that it was continuing. I don't know what he expected, it's typical of HW to crow on as she is though, she's a walking bingo card that one. I can't see how he'll escape erasure.

Bosky · 19/05/2022 21:32

Is there a typo in this part of the Determination of Facts?

  1. The Tribunal was unable to discern from the evidence generally or GenderGP’s records in particular, what if any, qualification any of these three individuals may have had, or indeed, what if any experience they had in transgender medicine. In particular, the Tribunal had no evidence to suggest that they could not properly be described as ‘mental health professionals’ as broadly defined by WPATH in respect of those individuals who are qualified in the assessment and diagnosis of gender dysphoria.

Surely that bolded section should read, "In particular, the Tribunal had no evidence to suggest that they could properly be described"?

ie. delete the word "not"

I hope he gets struck off.

MagnoliaTaint · 20/05/2022 16:39

'His patients have always loved him

And that's why they reported him to the tribunal, I presume?

UnashamedFeministIntellectual · 20/05/2022 16:50

That statement! The total disregard for their victims, simply congratulating themselves/each other, is fucking abhorrent and sickening. It's also extremely telling. It speaks volumes.

(I mean "their" as in both the Webberleys - not a fucking pronoun thing)
