Non binary camp councelor shares cabin with fifth grade girls (Calefornia)

Girls sent to a science camp were housed insleeping quarters with non binary male councelors, the camp says that they house residents by gender identity.
Parents were only informed when they returned from the trip.

So how does being non-binary get this teacher housed with the girls?

When my dd1 was in tr 6 and they were going on a residential the teachers were very clear that unless there was a medical emergency the male staff would not be entering rooms occupied by the girls.

Funny how even non binary sill means males enter female spaces Angry

Those poor girls

The school saying it's against the law to tell the parents Shock Does anyone know if that is true ?(telling the parents I mean)

Jonny1265 · 20/02/2022 18:30

This is wrong on several levels. Why do they need any adult in there? BUT definitely not a male.

nocoolnamesleft · 20/02/2022 18:36

That's a total safeguarding fail.

MrsJamin · 20/02/2022 19:17

Ugh. Just insane how far this is going.

rubyslippers · 20/02/2022 19:29

It’s appalling
I just cannot fathom how far down the rabbit hole this is
You have to ask why a man, and it is a man, wants to sleep in a room with young girls
Safeguarding?! A monumental fail

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 20/02/2022 19:35

Why does non-binary in practice always translate as opposite sex?

Clymene · 20/02/2022 19:39

California is now an abusers' paradise. The whole state is basically mixed sex. We saw how at the wi spa a convicted sex offender who was naked in the women's spa was defended by men (and honourable mention to Laurie Penny), prisons are fully mixed sex and now it seems so are residential camps.

I'm not saying this guy is an abuser but we know that men with sexual interest in children join children's camps to get access to kids. And now they're opening the tents and welcoming them in.

I can't imagine how frightening it is to live there with daughters.

LizzieSiddal · 20/02/2022 19:40

I wonder when this will be happening I think he UK. I expect very soon! It’s utterly contemptible that this lunacy gets us to this point.

Rainbowshit · 20/02/2022 19:42

What are the enbys in with the girls?

You'd assume being in with girls would be as equally dysphoria inducing if you were male as being in with the boys 🤔

I'd love to know how this one is explained

They may not be able to say in advance that "a biological male who identifies as non binary will be sleeping in your daughters room" but they could certainly say "it is the policy of the camp that camp counsellors sleep in the cabin that matches their gender identity as such it is possible that the camp counsellor sharing a bedroom with your daughter will be trans identified".

At least that way parents would know in advance that they have no control over the situation and could choose to not send their child.

Exactly this
EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 20/02/2022 20:04

@Rainbowshit

I have to assume because there's a bizarre conflation with eunuchs.

That said, I've no idea of the relevant ages and think it's beside the point.

I'd ask where this is all going but in the midst of the ongoing scandal of the Church and sex abuse we seem to have created a new sacred caste to supplant it.

EsmaCannonball · 20/02/2022 20:17

I've seen a few comments on this along the lines of, 'Well, someone who is genderqueer or non-binary isn't going to be sexually attracted to girls anyway.' People still don't realise that most of these men are heterosexual. Then they need to ask what would motivate a man to hide his heterosexuality.

Whatwouldscullydo · 20/02/2022 20:18

None of this is even about sexual attraction though.

It wouldn't be appropriate if the male was gay either.

Its all about power.

334bu · 20/02/2022 20:23

Fifth graders are 10 - 11 years old, so at this time of year most will be 11, with a good few already menstruating. Any male , no matter their gender identity, wishing to share sleeping and showering facilities with girls this age, should be treated with suspicion.

The non binary people I know are all women.

Whatever their sex though, adult NBs (I'm not talking about teenagers) are all heterosexual

110APiccadilly · 20/02/2022 20:27

When I was a teen, and went on summer camps, we didn't have the young adult helpers (this is my understanding of what a counsellor is) sleeping in our tents anyway. This was for safeguarding reasons. Each tent did have a nominated pair of young adults who were particularly responsible for them. They slept in a tent next door and were the same sex as us. (Obviously more appropriate as we'd have gone to them if we'd been ill in the night etc.)

When I was a Young Leader with Brownies (would have been about 15) I had my own room on Pack Holiday as it wasn't seen to be appropriate for me to share with either the Brownies or the other (adult) leaders.

So why would you be so stupid as to put a biologically male adult in with girls, when every organisation I've been involved with wouldn't even put a female adult in with girls?

Err…. I thought non binary people felt neither male or female?

In that case, why is a non binary person automatically sharing with the girls???

TravellingFrom · 20/02/2022 20:32

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

It doesn’t. You won’t see a non binary woman staying with the men. It’s only the other way around. Wonder why….
WouldIwasShookspeared · 20/02/2022 20:32

I am so sick of this bollocks.

I would argue that if someone is 'non binary' then they should use facilities that match their genitals since their 'identity' doesn't match with either male or female gender stereotypes.

Exactly.

As an offside, I hate the term 'enby' - such a cutsie name. Can’t totally put my finger on other reasons why I hate it, but it just seems … eurgh… I don’t know…

Under California state law I believe this is right. As stated by PP, they've changed the laws to make safeguarding or infact any protection of women and girls absolutely impossible.
