Hi all, a girls's school in Watford has decided to not allow transgender pupils to apply in order to keep its single sex status. 2 Days ago, the reader vote had approx 89% votes supporting the school's decision but today that's at 43%. Every vote counts if you want to support this school's decision and the poll closes at the end of today: www.watfordobserver.co.uk/news/19841276.girls-day-school-trust-will-not-accept-transgender-pupils/?fbclid=IwAR31FqnKbleYYH_h5-ryFX0ebDVcep-EFbGgZD0aZdeqMMlMVUsVmdn746g

From this story it looks as if school will accept the majority of transgender pupils (AFAB transgender teens far outnumber AMAB transgender teens), but will not accept trans girls.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 15/01/2022 12:35

The school will accept any child of the female sex, that’s all that matters

Can’t help thinking of the finger wagging on other threads about ppl getting involved in survey or polls outside of where they live. Seems quite obvious attention has been brought to this by TRA on soc med

Theeyeballsinthesky · 15/01/2022 12:35

Meant to add “any child of the female sex no matter how they identify”

Helleofabore · 15/01/2022 12:36

Yes passingby.

The school published a statement saying they would keep their schools single sex.

And males who believe that other males should be included in a GIRLS school are upset.

Because women and girls said no.

It is actually not a good look for trans activists. Who are now adamant that even if the section of the act is enacted, that they should be able to access.

This time it is girl’s rights that are acceptable collateral.

Be kind!

Cailleach1 · 15/01/2022 12:36

I don't think they have decided to not allow transgender pupils to join the school. As far as I understand it, they are reserving entry to girls in order to keep the schools single sex. So girls who identify as boys and things other than a girl (and may thus be regarded as transgender) will still be able to apply.

So, only boys will not be able to attend the girls schools; and that includes boys who identify as girls.

ToleranceAndCourage · 15/01/2022 12:40

Girls Day Trust Not Accepting Transgender pupils
WTH? Thats such a false statement. They accept trans boys anyone who is female, whatever they identify as. They segregate by sex not gender identity, as they should. It does cause some issues though as they can no longer address the pupils by 'girls' as there will be some who identify as boys.

Bluebluemoon39 · 15/01/2022 12:44

Omg - I've just voted - I can't believe the "yes" votes are winning.

People are just walking blindly into this.

I'd be absolutely livid if this was my dd's school.

Artichokeleaves · 15/01/2022 12:44

That's being brigaded. For obvious reasons. No point doing open surveys online about this, the GST only need to privately survey their parents. And parents, not pupils; this is about the people who pay the bills.

There is no need to remove the single sex option from all children when there are plenty of other school options available for children who identify as other than their biological sex. This whole dog in the manger attitude from the trans lobby has to stop.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 15/01/2022 12:47

It's stupid headlines that confuse the issue.

The school is using the legal exemptions in the equality act to provide single sex education.

Girls who 'identify as' something else are still females and therefore welcome.

Male children are not female and are therefore excluded.

This whole bullshit narrative of having to 'include' everyone in everything, usually for the benefit of males and at the expense of females, is really wearing thin.

DialSquare · 15/01/2022 12:48

It looks like you can vote over and over again by reopening the link every time.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 15/01/2022 12:50

Note that non of the TRA's are targeting boy's schools.

PoisonCrystal · 15/01/2022 13:02

That’s the problem with polls that allow people to vote multiple times by refreshing the page. I doubt that there are over 121k readers of the Watford Observer! 😂

Cailleach1 · 15/01/2022 13:03

121,000 votes in the 'Watford Observer' on a girls school decision to maintain their single sex status. Hmm. How is the west coast of the US voting in this survey by the 'Watford Observer'? And all around the world?

Maybe they could now do a survey on something that Mr. Putin's Russia could vote on. And take this global vox pop from god knows who (and from god knows where) as an endorsement.

Cailleach1 · 15/01/2022 13:03

Vote early, and vote often!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/01/2022 13:05

Do many children identify as the rhe opposite sex when they are 10, when parents are applying for secondary schools?

Cailleach1 · 15/01/2022 13:09

The votes are increasing quite rapidly. More than one would expect from a periodical such as the 'Watford Observer'. Or than one would expect to be interested/connected to policies related to this/these girls school.

OhLordyWhatNow · 15/01/2022 13:11

@Cailleach1

The votes are increasing quite rapidly. More than one would expect from a periodical such as the 'Watford Observer'. Or than one would expect to be interested/connected to policies related to this/these girls school.

And yet the percentage hasn't changed.

Toseland · 15/01/2022 13:11

That’s an odd survey, you can refresh the page and vote again?!

OhLordyWhatNow · 15/01/2022 13:19

It's a vox pop poll.

In reality it's meaningless

Cailleach1 · 15/01/2022 13:19

Do you think that trans pupils should be able to attend single-sex schools?

Yes - it should be based on a child's identity rather than their legal sex

No - single-sex schools should only allow people legally born as the sex required

This is a ridiculous survey. Should Trans pupils be allowed to attend single sex schools? Yes, according to their sex and irrespective of identifying as a particular gender identity.

Surely the question is whether pupils with a transgender identity should be allowed to attend a single sex school of the opposite sex.

Storminamu · 15/01/2022 13:22

It does clarify the question in the article.

Igmum · 15/01/2022 13:25

Most girls schools have plenty of transgender pupils because teenage girls are identifying as male in rising numbers but, of course, TM never appear on the TRAs agenda. Of course schools should be allowed to be single sex. Well done for great good sense to the schools involved. Hopefully the toxicity of the TRAs won't affect their decision

BootsAndRoots · 15/01/2022 13:30

There is no way that 130,000 people typically read that paper (which is about the number of votes).

I expect that there is a campaign elsewhere to get people to vote the other way.

The question is badly written. I don't think anyone has a problem with trans pupils attending a single-sex school, it's just a matter of which one.

Datun · 15/01/2022 13:36

People are very much aware that the voting is being skewed by votes from US transactivists.

And yes, the only people who need polling are the parents paying a considerable amount of money to have their daughters educated with other girls.

Which is, presumably, the reason for the statement in the first place.

MindatWork · 15/01/2022 13:41

I just refreshed a couple of times and the votes are shooting up - this has definitely been shared on social media somewhere.

V canny by the Watford Observer. Their page hits (which determines how much they can charge advertisers) will have shot up as a result of this. Clickbait at its finest
