That is the first post in this thread.

@Shedmistress Oh yes! Apologies for being a bit dim - just happened across it while checking my twitter feed :D

MonsignorMirth · 28/12/2021 19:55

Don't forget Helen Islan also tried to sue a trans woman for transphobia, causing a lot of distress to that person, only to have it thrown out as completely baseless.

They don't care about hurting people or any kind of truth.

Scraggythang · 28/12/2021 20:23

@MonsignorMirth the judge throwing that case out for being ridiculous gave me some hope that not everyone has gone totally insane.

Even when I was younger, uninformed and desperate not to offend, something about Mermaids just seemed off. Now they are one of the reasons I stand firm in this debate. I cannot get my head around how they are still taken even vaguely seriously.

NotBadConsidering · 28/12/2021 20:40

Love a good Mermaids thread, always worth re-exposing the damage their ideology has caused, and it sets the Monitors off big time, puts them at Defcon 1. I can practically hear their furious mouse clicks on the report button and screenshots from here 😆😆

@WarriorN

Thank you for the link, excellent and horrific piece safeguarding wise, I've subscribed.

Does anyone know anything about the "safeguarding org" badge on the website? Not one I recognise.

Looks like a pay them money, use their badge outfit....

Datun

I don't know which talk it was, but she actually said to the audience, of course we did what anybody would do, and took him to the doctor. Because he wanted to play with dolls!!

It was eating that talk which woke me up to this madness. A woman who thinks playing with dolls makes a child trans, is not a suitable person to run a children's charity.

Toomie · 28/12/2021 23:11

It was watching Suzies TEDTalk that cemented it all for me too, Lizzie.

Posie Parker's commentary video where she responds to it point by point is well worth a watch and is a useful resource to introduce people who don't yet understand.

I've never seen that Posie analysis. I agree with everything she says.

What did they expect when they were telling a boy that everything he was doing was for girls? To the point where the friction was so bad that his parents split up.

And Susie really doesn't see it. Her self awareness is zero.

It's heartbreaking.

RepentBirthingPersonFucker · 29/12/2021 08:19

I watched one of their training sessions that had been secretly recorded. How anyone can watch that guff and take it seriously is beyond me
Why are people not able to think?

I also despair at people’s lack of critical thinking skills. Really despair.

I think that the recent Times article by Janice Long (??) in which she uses the analogy of sheep and goats absolutely hits the nail on the head.

Janice Turner. Janice Long is the DJ who sadly died this week.

Linguini · 29/12/2021 09:55

They’d rather cut up and poison their son than deal with their own homophobia and sexism
YY
They're not the only one's at it either.
I don't understand how so many people can be like this.

Ah, here we are:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-48652970

"Mermaids UK stated it had notified the Information Commissioner's Office, the data protection watchdog, and contacted those affected.
The Charity Commission had also been notified, it said, and an independent investigation into the breach would be launched."

So the results of the Charity Commission having been notified are still to be known.

delurkasaurus · 29/12/2021 15:29
They concluded in July:
ico.org.uk/about-the-ico/news-and-events/news-and-blogs/2021/07/ico-fines-transgender-charity-for-data-protection-breach-exposing-sensitive-personal-data/
This is the ICO decision. What's missing, is what happened when the Charity Commission was notified. Did they do anything as regards the content, or nothing?

The ICO would have just looked at the data breach. They wouldn't have done anything about the actual content as that's not their remit. The Sunday Times story had a fair amount on the content.

The Charity Commission's actions or not are still an unknown SFAIK.

ScreamingMeMe · 01/01/2022 10:07

This interesting, from James Essess:

"A former trustee of @Mermaids_Gender
has reached out to me, having been asked to leave the organisation after raising safeguarding concerns internally.

Myself and others are starting to build a portfolio of evidence and are considering our options. We must keep children safe."

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/01/2022 11:01

What! Asked to leave because of raising safeguarding concerns? Isn't that a red flag of Soviet era May Day in Red Square proportions?

LizzieSiddal · 01/01/2022 15:02

What?! Bloody hell, this should be interesting!

ArabellaScott · 01/01/2022 15:04

asked to leave the organisation after raising safeguarding concerns

Clearly the mark of an organisation with a firm grasp of safeguarding and obviously well placed to care for, support and advise children struggling with identity or mental health issues. Fab.

rabbitwoman · 01/01/2022 15:29

Why would any charity do this, or any organisation like GIDS, why would they treat their safeguarding leads like this and think they would just go quietly!??

This behaviour is unhinged!!

LizzieSiddal · 01/01/2022 15:42

This behaviour is unhinged!!

But quite expected when you know who runs the show!
