It seems to be causing safety issues…

The animals are clearly transphobic. No brainer. Grin

PronounssheRa · 10/11/2021 20:48

What next, police cars the colours of the transgender flag

They have rainbow police cars and trans flag riot sheilds.

@Santastuckincustoms

How are you supposed to know what this is? I mean traffic markings are pretty standardised for a reason.
Exactly.

The one on Tottenham Court Road is near where I work and it had me proper confused for a bit. I mean I am easily confused but still.

foxgoosefinch · 10/11/2021 20:49

But zebras are just so binary, you know. Black, white, black, white. Where's the spectrum? Where are the clownfish?

BettyFilous · 10/11/2021 20:51

@foxgoosefinch

Oh FGS. A road crossing has a very specific purpose. Where TF have people's brains gone begging? Will they be replacing motorway cats eyes' with glitter balls for Pride month next? Confused
You could say the same for single sex spaces. It beggars belief.
ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 10/11/2021 20:52

You can't just change the law on road safety.

I think queering the Highway Code was on the Labour manifesto.

Snoozer11 · 10/11/2021 20:58

I thought all these public services had no money.

AlphaBravoGamma · 10/11/2021 20:59

@RainbowCrossing

Yes, Wimbledon's is hideous. And is it a zebra crossing or not?

I have just seen a local councillor retweeting GC things though. So now I am wondering whether to email him about this and also some schools stuff. If he's not the cabinet member for anything education related will he be able to do anything? Might be worth a discussion? This isn't his ward though (and neither am I...)

If you mean DW, then yes, contact him, but do it soon
RepentMotherfucker · 10/11/2021 21:02

Is he leaving?

Santastuckincustoms · 10/11/2021 21:04

I have told my DD that they are both women in trousers, because women can wear trousers without needing to identify as a man.

And where are the animal rights activists in all of this?

Perfect opportunity for them. If police horses won't step on them, guide dogs get confused then they can stop the need for working animals.

AlphaBravoGamma · 10/11/2021 21:22

DW? Yes, his blog says so
JellySaurus · 10/11/2021 21:33

The coloured stripes go the wrong way. Definitely queered crossings.

parietal · 10/11/2021 21:50

the one in camden is a street I walk along every day. It is a couple of blocks from the RNIB headquarters, so in that area I often see blind / partially sighted people AND guide dogs in training. So exactly the wrong area to start putting unusual crossings.

That crossing was never a zebra crossing, it is controlled by traffic lights. but who knows if pedestrians might now treat it as a zebra crossing and expect the traffic to stop.

Sittinginthesand · 10/11/2021 22:09

I’ve only just realised from reading this that they aren’t actually zebra crossings! I’d assumed that traffic would stop for me - glad I didn’t get squished on the one I crossed the other day!

ScribblingPixie · 10/11/2021 22:19

Who would ever think to make road crossings about anything except road safety? And what kind of authority would think safety was a secondary issue to going whoo, gender identity, yay? I just can't understand it. Maybe I'll write a lesbian anthem and suggest it's played on planes instead of the safety video.

KittenKong · 10/11/2021 22:27

Ah JollyHostess, you are near me then (NB don’t look at Waterstones window display).

I tried to walk my visually impaired sister over one - the polite version of what she said was “gosh, this is rather difficult to see, and my perception issues are causing me to feel as if I will stumble. My, what a silly thing to do! I do hope they will change it back...”

They’ve been up, what 6 weeks now? They look crap already.

Oh it's there! Yeah loads of visually impaired people being taught how to navigate round there and guide dogs being trained. Angry

It was bad enough when they changed the one way to accommodate the cycle lane.

KittenKong · 10/11/2021 22:38

Reminds me of a really bad junction next to DSs school when he was little. It was a junction with a road running behind it (a rat run) so the junction was like a star - and cars came at you from 3 directions.

We asked for a lollipop person - but was told that we couldn’t have one, of ‘school - slow down’ signs because there hadn’t been ‘enough’ accidents.

OperationDessertStorm · 10/11/2021 22:38

I love the artists one in the article (bit Austin Powers but then I like that sort of thing!) but I can understand this doesn’t work in terms of road safety.

slug · 10/11/2021 22:57

I cycled over that crossing earlier this week. To be honest I didn't clock it as a pedestrian crossing at all. The lines go the wrong way for a start. The colours simply don't register as "pedestrian crossing" when you're travelling at speed. But worst of all was when I came back in the evening. It's simply not visible in low light. I was through it before I realised it was there.

BigFatLiar · 10/11/2021 23:02

It's not a pedestrian crossing it's a pelican crossing.

The painting on the ground holds no significance as pelican crossings are light controlled.

BloodinGutters · 10/11/2021 23:33

Animals have incredible instincts.

If the countries best trained and most obedient animals are so stressed by they can’t keep their humans safe, then we should trust them.

Where exactly did the funds for this come from?

It’s inclusive virtue signalling.

Why shouldn’t people be free to use anything in sight to signal ones virtue.

Safety matters not a fuck.

It’s a bit like Brown grabbing the random child as the kid walked past.

If people only exist to prop up my ego then why not roads only exist for that reason also.
