Sorry it’s a daily Mail article www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10156749/Mother-skirt-wearing-teen-raped-female-classmate-says-identifies-male.html

@Doubletoilandtrouble

I thought the shift was quite telling - lots of mums.

On “The Mess we are in” they suggested that many professionals suddenly got more insight into the teaching during homeschooling and strongly disagreed with parts of it.

But also that they were enraged about the sexual assaults, the cover ups, the books etc.

The US seems so different from here and I understand why people never would vote Republican. Their stance on abortion is frightening. But if you feel that your children are under threat, what do you do?

Let’s step away from the rape for a while. It appears it was a thing to have sex in the toilets? For 14-year olds? And that boys wearing skirts were allowed in the girls?

Wasn’t that what the defence tried to say? Slut-shaming and an accident, you know, when you wear a skirt it can easily get caught on a watch and then “things happen”.

Obviously the rape did happen, the boy was convicted. But the fact that these things seem to be going on would make me furious.

And don’t get me started on the cover up.

The Mess was brilliant on this last night. Especially Kara Dansky and Natassia whose last name I didn't get. They said the Democrats lost because they were 'punching down ' at ordinary parents who are concerned for their childrens' welfare . Accusing your voters of racism and transphobia against all the evidence is not a great strategy. The other tactic of banging on about Trump was just redundant. He's not there guys. Thanks to Glinner, Helen and Arty we can get this info from the horse's mouth. Too bad he only has 12k subscribers. Such is the grip of Twitter and FB . Yet another thing the Dems were meant to be sorting out Hmm

This is another good article from the Bari Weiss sub stack. It's a guest writer called David French, a long time conservative and free speech advocate.

It's looking at the danger of knee jerk bills banning CRT in education that are wooly worded, poorly defined and risk causing more problems than they solve.

Which reminds me somewhat of the Conversion Therapy Bill we currently have going through our parliament that may well cause more problems than it resolves.

His essay hasn't been well received by US readers of this sub stack though and he's getting a bit of a hammering in the comments.

That's an excellent article, Ovahere. He might be getting a hammering but much of it just confirms his point - silencing opponents by censoring them is a normal instinct that must be rejected if you're a liberal who believes in freedom of expression, even if they are your own opponents. Because once you're not in power, if you accept power being wielded to silence the ruling party's opponents, that will silence you in the end.

I've been listening about a podcast that was talking about speakers being disinvited from universities and colleges in the US and it's now a standard tactic on both the left and the right. It simply isn't healthy in a democracy to curb speech like that.
