Whistle-blower says official policy documents compare patients who ask for single-sex spaces to racists and label them 'transphobes'

Every single person responsible for creating these rules - and those who enthusiastically enforced them - needs sacking.

Staff who raise safeguarding concerns may be threatened with disciplinary action or even criminal charges, according to Dr Helyar who warned that the NHS is influenced by controversial LGBT charity Stonewall.

She identified a number of documents which, she says, equated female patients questioning the policies with racists and a policy from Greater Glasgow and Clyde which tells nurses to “re-iterate that the ward is indeed female only and that there are no men present”.

"This is the NHS gaslighting women patients,” she said. “In other policies, women patients who ask for wards to be single-sex are described variously as transphobic service users, offenders, perpetrators or those who should be given trans education sessions to improve their attitudes.”

How can someone simultaneously see women as human beings and be on board with this shit? Is stage one of the mission officially complete now? dehumanise women and take away their agency.

Link to meeting Melrose linked thread about. Dr Sinead starts at 35 minutes in. It's a moving and enraging speech.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/10/2021 22:32

But the whole event is great. Recommend watching it all.

Anotheruser02 · 05/10/2021 22:34

In what the charity describes as a “best-practice guide” produced by the trust, it advises: “If a female (who was once male and has a past history of sexual assaults on women) needed admission to a female ward then she should be treated as any other patient and a thorough risk assessment be carried out”.

When did they take female? That refers to anatomy not identity.

OldCrone · 05/10/2021 22:36

Was it an 'archive..is' link OP? We can't post those any more but we can post other archive links. No idea why. (I had to add an extra dot to that partial url to get through their filter).

Is it anywhere else? I can't use twitter.
ArabellaScott · 05/10/2021 22:46

in one mental health trust, a male-born patient who identified as a woman had sexually assaulted patients on a female-only ward on two separate admissions, despite staff raising concerns.

This is abhorrent. Unbelievable. But it never happens and never would or even could happen, right?

Melroses · 05/10/2021 22:48

It only seems to be on Twitter, but you don't need to be signed in afaik.

Dr Sara Dahlen is also on Public Meeting 1 on here:

I'm sorry to tell you but you've been conned if you think the word woman refers to an identity that can genuinely be claimed by men or women.

Along with woman men use female, mother, daughter, sister, girl etc etc to refer to men and boys who say they are women.

It's why the line has to be drawn at the word woman, give that up and you give up all the words to describe women and girls.

Sorry, got muddled.

Sinead Helyar is meeting number 2

It looks like today's meeting will be added at the bottom in a day or so.

StopGo · 05/10/2021 23:00

Maybe hospital wards should skip sex/gender and go straight to penisperson and vulvaperson.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/10/2021 23:02

They don't care. They will take everything, because this isn't about being reasonable or accurate it's about power and control.

skatewanker · 05/10/2021 23:04

Women are not safe from penis intrusion anywhere.

skatewanker · 05/10/2021 23:04

I.e Men.

NiceGerbil · 05/10/2021 23:17

That response from stonewall says it all.

To hear all that and respond-

With nothing said at all about the women assaulted.
With a reiteration that TWAW and that's that.
With an idea about risk assessment but. Are there existing protocols for risk assessing female inpatients?
Options for women deemed to be a risk, assuming there is any risk assessment widely carried out (???) about what to do with them.
That the existing risk assessment (if any exist) for women. Was written with males in mind. Sexual assault, male build and strength, etc. Also what about the other stuff that women esp in bed in a nightie will find unsettling/ threatening? Staring, ogling, if mobile going for chats sitting on bed. Often a captive audience.
Hard on under covers?
Wanking loudly behind flimsy curtain?
I mean creeps have an unlimited imagination when it comes to this sort of thing.
Watching porn with volume up?
None of that illegal.

NiceGerbil · 05/10/2021 23:22

Anyway the fact that stonewall didn't even briefly say anything like

Terrible that the women were assaulted
And then risk assessment will stop that or similar.

I mean it won't but they could have acknowledged that women being sexually assaulted is terrible. Nope. Not a whisper.

And at the end pointedly stated they are determined to work for LGBT+ etc or whatever it was. Obviously women not in there (well lgb women and trans men but we know they don't give a toss about them). So reiterating that concern for women and girls is absolutely zero for them.

Nice!

Datun · 05/10/2021 23:35

Official NHS trust policy documents also compare patients who ask for single-sex spaces to racists and label them "transphobes", "offenders" and "perpetrators", she said.

“The patient went on to sexually assault two women patients. The same patient was placed on a female ward on a subsequent admission, and each time assaulted women. Staff concerns were ignored.”

Dr Sinead Helyar said that in at least one trust if patients questioned why there was a male-bodied person on a female-only ward, medics had been told to "reiterate ... that there are no men present”.

This is, quite literally, state sanctioned sexual assault of women.

TimeToDateAgain · 05/10/2021 23:46

She identified a number of documents which, she says, equated female patients questioning the policies with racists and a policy from Greater Glasgow and Clyde which tells nurses to “re-iterate that the ward is indeed female only and that there are no men present”.

Remember the WPUK meeting with Anne Ruzylo where she reported this gaslighting happens in UK prisons? This part of the video starts with a preamble about the level of deception involved. At approx. 40:20 Anne Ruzylo reads an account of a prison officer who is asked by women prisoners if another prisoner (in a women's prison) is a man. Because the prison officers are "bound by confidentiality" and despite every promise of the prison system to treat prisoners with dignity and respect, the officers speak indirectly or gaslight the women. This continues even when they can observe the 'mental health of the women declines'.

NiceGerbil · 06/10/2021 00:27

Oh I wonder if the telegraph would be interested in seeing the docs from when single sex wards were a big political push. 90s/ 2000s?

The ones with govt saying to NHS they are to be single gender not sex.

NHS replying are you sure?

Govt saying yes definitely. But anything for the public will say single sex as otherwise they will get confused...

Anyone in twitter, do telegraph have an account?

If I try to find the doc, would anyone want to post it for them?
