Looks like Raab and Williamson are for the long overdue chop.

Others will be moved round.

Keep watching.

Excuse sp above.

Nadhim Zahawi has been appointed to Education, not whoever I or my autocorrect wrote earlier Confused

Yes I meant 'from' not 'to' probably, in my excitement.

And what a woman is, which is tragically more than can be said about nearly all Labour MPs.

PronounssheRa · 15/09/2021 17:25

@ThinkAboutItTomorrow

Not to derail but does anyone know any more on Marsha de Cordova? She's my MP and I had thought she was fully TRA but some of the articles are suggesting she resigned because he wasn't happy with the stonewall takeover.

It'd be good to know as I like her politics on most other things and would like to vote for her again.

I am not a Conservative voter, but Zahawi has a clear communication style and comes across as one of the more competent ones. Pleased he has education.

Great news about Truss keeping equalities.

Artichokeleaves · 15/09/2021 17:42

@ScribblingPixie

Liz Truss keeps Equalities role as well as being Foreign Secretary - so relieved.
Hurrah!

Any intel on level of capture by Stonewall etc?
Abhannmor · 15/09/2021 18:06

Groan. Then her attempt to steamroll the Oz trade negotiator by making him sit on an uncomfortable chair Blush. Incredibly - it didn't work !

I'm having a rapid search of all the new big appointments.

SpindleWhorl · 15/09/2021 20:45
That's interesting, and promising I guess.

Shame that Zahawi is a petro-chem-head. But right now Education needs a proven logistical deliver and someone who isn't Stonewalled.

He will hopefully have to ditch the petrol lobbying asap.

Doesn't change the fact that she's utterly stupid. Look at all her mindless knee-jerk defences of Johnson. And this
Rhannion · 15/09/2021 22:53

Unfortunately we find ourselves with “ unusual “ allies in the fight to retain women’s rights...

SpindleWhorl · 15/09/2021 22:59

Well the intellectual giants that are Dawn Butler and Lisa Nandy don't represent a better choice for me over women who know what women are.

SpindleWhorl · 16/09/2021 00:01

The Guardian tonight:

Truss will keep her existing role as minister for women and equalities, a blow for some Tories who viewed her as too keen to appear “anti-woke” at the expense of supporting greater rights for transgender people. One said it was a “missed opportunity” and she would be unable to devote the time the role deserved.

Who is 'The One'??

Any bets on St Crispin of the Blunt?

Cygne · 16/09/2021 07:20

How is it good that Truss retains the Women and Equality role? Since when did a Foreign Secretary have loads of time to spare to cover a second ministerial function? Yet again that role is being sidelined.

SpindleWhorl · 16/09/2021 08:13

From the BBC this morning:

Penny Mordaunt, who was paymaster general - a ministerial position in the Cabinet Office, tweeted on Thursday her thanks to her colleagues, saying she was "no longer your minister" and she wished her successor good luck.

Long-serving Nick Gibb was sacked from his role at the Department for Education, while Caroline Dinenage lost her job as a culture minister, and Luke Hall was fired as a local government minister.

The Penny Mordaunt sacking is also being reported in The Telegraph.

Well, one could argue that it is good for continuity. It is a good statement to let Tory MPs like Crispin Blunt and Penny Mordaunt know that theirs is not the prevailing narrative of this government.

I would imagine that as the portfolio holder for the Women & Equalities brief, Liz Truss gives the direction of travel to her team of ministers and junior ministers, and they get on with the job.

Personally I would like to see a Secretary of State for Women & Equalities, and not 'just' a Minister. But it is what it is - and it can be argued that it is challenging, important and in safe hands for now.

I worry more about the Foreign Office side of things tbh.
