Who is Lang Cleg?

JustcameoutGC · 03/09/2021 12:25

I am fairly new (i.e. Less than 5yrs) to this board. I often hear tell of a Lang Cleg, there are lots of user names that seem to be referencing her.

Who is she and where did she go?

I still say WBH is the most impressive natural polyfilla alternative.

I once had the bright idea of using a mix of Weetabix and PVA to fill the gaps between my floorboards, Floral. It seemed the perfect colour and texture.

However once it was dry it smelled very strongly of Weetabix as soon as the room warmed up and soon started crumbling, leaving poor DS1 (who slept in the basement below) prey to clumps of Weetabix falling on him in bed.

Not one of my better ideas. Smile

Ah, but that might be because you left out the banana.

Lang if you are still reading MN, you are missed on here , it was an unjust decision and MN should have appreciated you , your experiences and your insight.

Ghislainedefeligonde · 03/09/2021 19:00

Yes I miss Lang too, she was always the voice of reason and so knowledgable. A genuinely wise woman who should never have been banned

WineAcademy · 03/09/2021 19:06

I name change pretty regularly, so am not a "known" figure on MN, but I've grown to love many names here. Lang is one of them - her legacy, wisdom and insights live on, much to the consternation of many.

Also, for old time's sake: waves to Oflang

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 03/09/2021 19:10

waves to Oflang

Under His Eye.

WineAcademy · 03/09/2021 19:15

Think of all the updating of spreadsheets that's happening right now! It amuses me.

Knittingupastorm · 03/09/2021 19:23

@BettyFilous

Pour on milk, heat in microwave, mix to consistency of porridge.

Gag reflex triggered. Thanks a bunch. 🤢

Apologies!
TinselAngel · 03/09/2021 19:28

Is this a good opportunity to mention how Lang got several pages in Sarah Pederson's book, Empress got a mention, but me and R0 weren't in it at all?

WineAcademy · 03/09/2021 19:39

Rude.

Jux · 03/09/2021 19:41

I miss Lang, I always read her posts, and they were always clear, to the point, courteous and informative.

I miss Dittany too.

Two incredibly well informed women, hounded off the site. They weren't the first either. It started a looooong time ago.

I was in the index. Can’t remember why though.
Congressdingo · 03/09/2021 19:46

@TheWeeDonkey

She had some very problematic views about Weetabix!
I proper miss lang, but not her views on weetabix. Heathen.
Aparallaxia · 03/09/2021 19:47

A: 'When I was a child my favourite breakfast cereal was Weetabix. WIth hot milk. And, for a special treat, half a banana..'

QC: 'In mitigation, M'Lud, I would like my client's tender years to be taken into account, that there was no microwave/Weetabix interface as milk had to be heated on the stove-top, and the fact that she has not partaken of said comestibles for over 50 years. She went on to devlop a healthy relationship with Shredded Wheat and subsequently with Low-Sugar Alpen.'

You cheeky cow, you know I've always wanted to be in an index

I know. I who have been called Mumsnet royalty (granted only once by a friend), not even a mention.

She is the Goddess Of Terfdom, our GC High Priestess and secret leader.

So secret, she doesn't know.

But not the High Priestess of Breakfast Choices.
SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 03/09/2021 21:09

I sometimes wonder whether anyone at MNHQ looks back over the last few years and gets a creeping sense of doubt - perhaps, just perhaps, some of their decisions might have been wrong?

Just wondering.

TatoAndBeans · 03/09/2021 21:13

@BlackeyedSusan

But back to the important stuff ..

LC advocates: no sacred castes

Noone is exempt from safeguarding checks and practices.

Anyone advocating exceptions because....( Insert reason) is dangerous and potentially opening a loophole that abusers can walk through.

Realise I’m preaching to the converted here, but… None of this should in any way be controversial. Safeguarding that doesn’t recognise dangerous people can be devious, isn’t going to keep people safe.

I wasn't in the book. But if you advance search the sentence 'What Floral said.' you get 5068 hits. Grin
Pudmyboy · 03/09/2021 21:29

@R0wantrees, thanks for the link, I will have a read through that over the weekend,
@TinselAngel okay I confess I haven't indulged in decades....but it was true once!

deepwatersolo · 03/09/2021 22:49

Lang’s comments were indeed a joy to read. Deep insights, witty, and razor sharp on class issues, too. I rarely comment these days (still reading regularly), just dropping in to say I miss her.
