Much as I'd like Edinburgh lesbians to have their own space, taking a look at the founder I'm not sure that this space is going to be it.

It interesting in that it reads as if it’s just an idea- no funding, no experience, no premises. How is it news? There are other lesbian owned bars in Edinburgh

I'm sure I have been in a lesbian bar in Edinburgh, once upon a time.
The future-bar owner defines as a non-binary lesbian. Can someone explain that to me? A lesbian has to be a woman? If you think TWAW you'd still wouldn't be a non-binary lesbian?

I think Emily's scheme to drop out of university to run a bar is...a shaky business plan at best.

Apparently the Regent in Edinburgh is a lesbian bar. So Emily’s won’t be the first.

Maybe the first that doesn’t allow straight people ? I didn’t think you were allowed to exclude groups based on sexuality?

Maybe the exclusion is on the basis of gender identity, with Emily cannily realising that since it's not one of the protected characteristics then discrimination on the basis of this characteristic is permitted.

I can’t imagine being a female lesbian in that bar. The idea is like throwing a baby to wolves, pushing a bleeding girl into an ocean full of sharks, getting a girl drunk and leaving her with a bunch of ummmm, penis-havers.

So if she doesn't want cis men, is s(he) being homophobic? What about cis women who are bi? How will s(he) be able to tell? How about cis men who identify as transwoman lesbians? It all sounds generally phobic to me. As a straight woman living in England, I'm probably not even entitled to comment! I'm sure it will be a great success.....

I know LGBTQ+ landlords (landpeople?) in my area but everyone's welcome...there may be a rainbow flag outside but no-one cares and by excluding people you cut your nose off to spite your face.

Also, how to check? I'm a hetero female but I could say I'm a lesbian just so I can get in with my mates?

There's a bar in soho that doesn't allow men in full stop unless they have a female handler/ escort so along the lines of no cis men etc ...it works quite well as a female only space

I still have absolutely no idea how you can be lesbian / gay and nonbinary. I just don't get the mental gymnastics that says that you're into people the same sex as you when you say you have no gender. If you have no gender how are other people the same sex? If you are nonbinary, how can you define your sexuality if you're not pansexual?

Let's face it, Pink News would never celebrate a genuine lesbian bar. There's only one type of "lesbian" they like...

Agree. There is zero chance this person will open a bar of any kind under their own steam.

I wonder if there are possibly lesbian venues in Edinburgh that Pink News doesn't know about.

So the story here is ‘student drops out if uni saying that they are going to start a business’. How is that news? I said all sorts of shit at that age.
