I was quite looking forward to this show, but looks like they'll be tying themselves up in knots to affirm TWAW... and doesn't that kind of make the whole premise of the show redundant?

Basic premise for those not familiar - overnight every mammal with a Y chromosome mysteriously dies.

Two comments stick out from this article that contradict eachother:

  1. [There are some] men with two X chromosomes
  2. the cast and the crew — are making a show that affirms that trans women are women, trans men are men, nonbinary people are nonbinary

But surely if TWAW then there wouldn't be any immediate crisis following the death of all those with a Y chromosome. If TW were women then humanity could continue procreating and it would be business as usual?

I was genuinely looking forward to this show, but now it just seems like it's going to be an absolute mind melt in the pursuit of woke point scoring. Is anyone else struggling to get their head around this?

"The idea is simply that biology does not dictate our social identities. "

Why on earth do you think that feminists would disagree with that, @SillyStrings423?? That's been my radical feminist and anti-gender belief since I was fully aware of feminist thinking as a teenager. Being a woman is simply my biology. Sometimes that's relevant in practical ways in the world. But it tells you nothing about me as an individual personality.

The general storyline was that women were getting pregnant without having sex - sort of like an immaculate conception. And they were giving birth only to daughters.

Greenfly do this (pathnogenesis) in Spring, it is how their numbers explode so quickly.

And as we know, when something is possible in clown fish, molluscs, greenfly, snails etc then it must also be true in humans.

It's alright BettyFilous my mate who is studying astro physics and I will run the power stations nuclear technology isn't that complex 😉...I'll just press this red button 💣💥

On a serious note I was going to get Disney plus to watch this and the final series of the walking dead. Think I won't bother, although at least the walking dead has strong female characters that as they move through the series evolve to become strong and independent.

I took one for the team and watched all of the uploaded episodes. It’s definitely on point with the ideology, so if it’s been cancelled for wrong think that’d be a shame. It does a good job of covering all the gender ideology talking points, though no clownfish (yet). Also manages to crowbar left (Dem) vs right (Rep) politics in with an added dose of religious rudderless, quiverful right wing women in a hurry to get back to the status quo. Based on the episodes so far, I’m rooting for Yorick and Ampersand (cappucin), which must make me a bad feminist, or failing that a mass extinction event. I hope they make it out without having their man plums squeezed dry.

@SpindleWhorl

"It’s also made clear that a number of women died that day who had a Y chromosome and probably didn’t even know it.”

But when they die, how is anyone going to know who had what chromosomes? Over 150,000 or so people drop dead world wide every day (and that's pre-covid). So will they all be assumed to have had the 'wrong chromosomes'?

And in the midst of the chaos of half the planet dying and presumably needing rapid disposal, the dead bodies are all going to be chromosome tested, are they?

I'm really confused 😕
