I've just made a humongous fruit salad it will just need a few pints of liqueur and will be good to go. The good thing about it is you can have your pudding and digestif at the same time

That's grand. I can probably knock up some sorbets as well - lemon, raspberry, and I've a yellow or red plum.

Pavlova anyone? Proper double cream, and lots of fruit on top.

I've just eaten the last ice cream. DD will not be happy when she gets home. She ate a good 75% of them, though, so I have no guilt.

I've been thinking about ice cream. If you were creating a Suffragette Neapolitan, what flavours would you choose? I'm thinking basil and maybe almond (or mint and vanilla, I suppose), but I'm struggling with purple because I loathe blackcurrant. Parma violet, maybe?

Thanks, Grumpy, but the clearing up was cathartic and I only broke a few of the Pimm's glasses. (Those fragments of the "Present From Badley Fuckitt" mug were already there, honest - looks like I'm not the first to lose my temper at the judiciary...)

I can put some tapas bits out around 18:00 - then I'll be back and forth between the oven and the rest of the work I need to finish tonight.

I expect to be pulling the first pizzas around 18:30 - anyone who wants a slice should take them.

I have stuck to sorbets. I found some redcurrants and that was delightful.

Last call for pizzas will be around 21:30 - I shan't be around to assist those with munchies. I can bake some extra to leave under cover if people don't mind having them cold but there'll be no special orders.

Crocus I share your pain. My eldest is a bit of a wokester and it's very wearing. The youngest can be a bit woke at times. It's very wearing to be lectured on sexism when you grew up in the 70s and 80s, and even more wearing to be lectured on racism when you saw apartheid in action, and had a 'Black majority rule now!' sticker on the back of a storybook when you were 8.

Morning! I’ve made coffee for Embarassing, Crocus, Weevils and anyone else coming to after the lock in. Also, pastries, strawberries from the garden, and there’s some toast on.

My daughter is early teens and struggling a bit with all this too.

I’m hoping for an appeal on yesterday’s news. Which reminds me, I need to write to my MP.

Crocus I share your problem with DD. My eldest is home for a couple of months school holidays - she has been working as a teaching assistant in Spain since graduating last summer and as far as I'm concerned the autumn term and return to Spain can't come soon enough. There are no meal time conversations, just lectures, delivered in the most patronising of tones. The world needs to go vegan (I'm going to serve myself a massive steak one of these nights to eat while she munches on her chickpeas). Yesterday I pointed out the harms to women in prisons and got the reply "yes but it's only one or two and DD2 and I will never be in prison so you should devote your energies to more important causes". How the F did I bring up a daughter like that? I'm so ashamed of her.
Then at supper we heard that she is a fan of women's football as she has a friend who plays so I pointed out that it may be less fun for her friend when men join in and was told that men pose no problem due to their low testosterone after they have been on treatment. When I pointed out they are still bigger and stronger I was told I was a T**f and it was too upsetting coming home and being in my presence.
I'm actually staying off alcohol for various reasons at present but it does mean I'm not guilty of descending into a drunken rant, I'm trying hard to keep my mouth shut for the most part. Thank God for DD2 who told her she had become a really horrible person!

Not quite a week and I've had enough of vegan food. Honestly I agree with the principle of eating less meat for various reasons, and love lots of vegetarian meals but I find vegan so trying. No eggs for instance means I can't even make some Bara Brith which is predominantly dried fruit and just the one egg in the whole loaf. I'll bring that along too, it's so miraculously easy to make and being fat free all the better when smothered with butter!

Gutted to have missed pizza evening last night. I will just have whatever coffee is going.

Good god, bloody Marys all round for those of you with woke scold children returning home to lecture you. I honestly don't think I'd have the patience to have them in the house. Anyone who talks to me like shit has no place in my home. Can't they stay at uni / wherever they would be normally and work during the holidays? It's what I did and most of my uni mates. Then then can happily sit around and lecture each other on how to be kind and curse the terfdom of their parents together.
