I couldn't see this posted any where else .. apologies if I've missed it.
Helen Joyce posted this on twitter yesterday Oxford Uni's's submission to Stonewall's WorkPlace Equality Index. It's 100 pages, don't try and read it all, but well worth a look. PLEASE look at the various illustrations at the end.

What a complete and utter waste of time and it makes Oxford look like a complete laughing stock.
I cant stop laughing. Still don't know why the giraffe is there. Is it one of Dawn Butlers?

I wonder what Oxford University's Congregation and Council think of this nonsense? It's a huge reputational risk, and someone senior and competent in governance ought to be all over it.

Absolutely bloody shameful.

bitheby · 03/06/2021 00:46

Sigh. So the cream of British universities are teaching that women have women's brains to match their womanly gonads.

somethinginoffensive · 03/06/2021 00:50

It's staggering. I did as she suggested and looked at page 188 onwards. What on Earth did I just read?

stumbledin · 03/06/2021 01:01

I saw on another forum that they thought this was someone taking the piss and that Stonewall had never noticed! Confused

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 03/06/2021 01:03

What a joke.

Makes me think of General Melchett:
"Oxford's a complete dump!"

TheHandmadeTail · 03/06/2021 01:09

I thought they were suggesting the gonads were in the knees on page 188.

I presume the giraffe is questioning, but what about the recorder?

FictionalCharacter · 03/06/2021 01:09

Well that’s the first time I’ve read “CAMAB (coercively assigned male at birth)”.
Shame on those midwives coercing those newborns.

bitheby · 03/06/2021 01:15

@TheHandmadeTail

I thought they were suggesting the gonads were in the knees on page 188.

I presume the giraffe is questioning, but what about the recorder?

Haha. I'd forgotten about the pink recorder. I thought it was a bat for beating T**Fs with when I first saw it.

Councilworker · 03/06/2021 01:18

The giraffe along with the pink recorders is from the Out in Oxford project

www.glam.ox.ac.uk/out-oxford which was created/led by Dr C Barker
according to httpss://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clara_Barker

SpindleWhorl · 03/06/2021 01:19

I suppose it could have been a massive pisstake - but wouldn't OxU have done the big reveal by now to expose the SW scheme's lunancy?

Councilworker · 03/06/2021 01:21

Looks like the LGBT 101 talk with Elves is one of Dr Barker's presentations too if you follow the wiki links

SpindleWhorl · 03/06/2021 01:21

Oh god, @Councilworker, it's actually for real, then? This scepter'd isle is fallen.

RedDogsBeg · 03/06/2021 01:26

Wtf????

Note we have the Equality Act wrong again, -gender identity and sexuality are not protected characteristics.

The statistics for murder - not in the UK you utter numpties, and a drop in the ocean compared to the number of women murdered worldwide every fucking day.

Anyone help me out on what the pink thing is on the last page of illustrations and is it TA as in thank you?

This submission has come from an internationally respected education establishment, one of the supposed highest seats of learning and well, wtf?

SpindleWhorl · 03/06/2021 01:31

I did part of my PhD visiting OxU, and met some awesome academics. It was a very motivating and valuable part of my life, remembered fondly. I feel so embarrassed about this for them all.

But isn't it incredibly illuminating ...

TheHandmadeTail · 03/06/2021 01:32

Thanks Councilworker. Apparently male giraffes have both hetero and homosexual sex which makes them non-binary...?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/06/2021 06:24

Only if seen through an anthropomorphic lens, from my limited knowledge of giraffes. That document is excruciatingly embarrassing for Oxford.

Cailleach1 · 03/06/2021 06:45

It must be a p*sstake. The elvish people gaming figures and blue and pink brains.

Do their medical courses cover the pink and blue brains?

MidsomerMurmurs · 03/06/2021 06:58

Don’t ask about “what’s under the hood”. Presumably some lovely long hair and a head containing a girl-brain?

Bit of a tell though that much of this is just copied and pasted from American teenagers’ Tumblr pages, without even checking if there are US/UK vocabulary differences. They could’ve said “don’t ask what’s under the bonnet” in which case the answer would be as above! Or maybe the hood/bonnet references are to Handmaid’s Tale style headwear?

Cwenthryth · 03/06/2021 07:14

That is completely batshit, how embarrassing for them!

What does giraffes (possibly) being bisexual have to do with gender identity?

Also - and I detest the fucking bathroom obsession these activists have - but “no records of assault due to using bathroom of gender identity” - well that’s demonstrably not true at all is it? What a daft claim to make.

334bu · 03/06/2021 07:20

Does nobody at Oxford have access to accurate UK crime statistics? What kind of research skills are they teaching there ?

Strikemepink · 03/06/2021 07:26

So many things about this. I might expect this at a small organisation where a volunteer has had to pull something together and they were new to the subject. But not from such a prestigious place.

Still getting the law wrong, and are they saying that this is akin to religious belief?

Equality Act 2010
Unlawful to directly or indirectly discriminate someone (or their family / friends) due to their gender identity or sexuality Unlawful to harass or victimise someone for their gender identity or sexuality
Human Rights Act 1998
You cannot be discriminated against because of your religious beliefs but neither can you discriminate against others because of those beliefs

LizzieSiddal · 03/06/2021 07:30

How utterly embarrassing fir them!

The misinterpretation of the Equality Act is there for all to see on the last page.

The Law
Equality Act 2010
Unlawful to directly or indirectly discriminate someone (or their family / friends) due to their gender identity or sexuality Unlawful to harass or victimise someone for their gender identity or sexuality

LizzieSiddal · 03/06/2021 07:31

Sorry Xposted with you Strikemepink

NotBadConsidering · 03/06/2021 07:34

More 101s:

No records of assaults due to using bathrooms of GI

Really?! No records at all?! How can they lie so blatantly?

BlueBrush · 03/06/2021 07:41

Oh my god! I'd love to know what their biology and law departments make of that. (Or any of them, for that matter.) Does Oxford University really think that people who are non binary have got a brain that is neither male nor female but something in the middle?

And funny that when you look at the elves, despite being NOT REAL, you can tell which one is male and which one is female. Almost like it's an easy thing for humans to get their heads round.

When you scroll through the full document you get a sense of exactly how much of staff time has gone into this submission, including putting the submission together itself, writing and agreeing the policies, designing, delivering and undertaking the training. Would love to know if Oxford (or any Diversity Champions) put the same effort into race and/or disability.
