It will be interesting to see how the man will try to spin this. There can't be many reasons why he'd get his tackle out at work, at midnight, that would make his employee angry enough to cut it off.

Sadly, it's easy enough for a man in this position to claim that they were having a consensual sexual encounter, and the woman became angry because of XYZ made up reason eg alleged infidelity, or whatever. Sow just enough doubt to make a rape charge not stick and get her sent to prison for the self defence attack.

They haven't ruled it out, police want to question him once his condition is stable. If he is found guilty I hope that the punishment already inflicted on him doesn't cause the justice system to treat him more leniently, he deserves the full legal punishment for rape regardless.

@UhtredRagnarson, I watched the documentary about Lorena Bobbit and after she chopped off her rapist husband's penis the fire brigade and police spent ages trying to find it. It got reattached and then he went on later to rape more women. They should have just left it off.
