If he has no convictions for rape I'm stunned that Mumsnet allows the comment on page 1 to stand.

Can we just call any man a rapist now?

For the record I think he is a vile man and I have no sympathy for him.

Have you read the article? It says this had happened a number of times. Still think this was the right course of action?

Eh?

Are we supposed to feel bad for the man that she'd finally been able to stop him from raping her, or are we supposed to think she deserved to be sexually attacked because it had happened before and she kept working there?

I hope the doctors dropped the foul thing hard a dozen times before trying to reattach it.

Yes, read the article, yes he has assaulted her previously, clearly he wasn’t going to stop by himself, of course a victim should defend themselves by trying to prevent being raped. Why would that not be the right course of action? What would you suggest she do to prevent being raped again?
WeeBisom · 02/06/2021 18:34

Can I just point out for the naysayers that we really do not do this for other crimes . When that old man had his house broken into and he killed the burglar ,I didn’t hear anyone say to wait and see and the old guy probably murdered him (and false claims of self defence are much higher) and yet here we have a story of a woman acting in self defence and supposedly it’s rubbish? If the facts are true then I don’t see why she should not get the benefit of self defence .

Given that it was accepted by both sides of the trial of Lorena, that he had sexually assaulted her repeatedly during their marriage, and that was part of her successful defence, I don't think the description of Bobbitt in that post is problematic.

WeeBisom · 02/06/2021 18:48

Dolphin1 sorry let me be more precise about John bobbit. He was accused of raping and assaulting Lorena repeatedly over many years and was found not guilty.Lorena bobbit was found not guilty and was ordered to have a psych exam. And in the years that followed John had multiple arrests and prison sentences for domestically abusing multiple of his female partners, some who say he raped them. So I don’t feel particularly happy that he got his dick back, no.

DolphinFC · 02/06/2021 19:09

I agree completely.

Totaldick · 02/06/2021 21:50

Good for her!

Neotraditional · 02/06/2021 21:54

If a person was attacking others with a knife you would remove it. Any man using his penis as a weapon should have that removed. No exceptions.

If they can’t use it properly it should be taken off them. Possibly act as the best deterrent too.

Shame the mincer wasn't switched on.

Alicethruthelookingglass · 02/06/2021 23:29

*Maybe because I'd only just woken up, I misread that first line as-

"They drew it back on?"*

On his forehead with a sharpie would be best I think.

And I was only half serious when I said that this would be the case for the prosecution!

I watched the Lorena Bobbit thing on Amazon Prime a couple of years ago and the doc started off with the story but then later on, like 20 years or so later then Lorena and John met up on a chat show and they were shown smiling together, would you really agree to meet up with your rapist later and have a laugh about ‘old times’? Also Lorena was at a beauty therapists appointment prior to cutting Johns dick off and they were talking about cheating brought up by Lorena, and she asked the therapist what would she do if she caught her man cheating on her and I can’t remember what the therapist said but Lorena answered “if a man cheated on me then I would cut his dick off”, so that sounds like premeditation to me a little bit and it makes me question her credibility as to why she cut his cock off, sorry but if you watched the doc then you may feel the same way.Hmm

Hmm, well I suppose a tv documentary is more relevant and informative than the judgement given in Lorena Bobbitt's trial... She was found not guilty, on the grounds of temporary insanity. Her defence was that the abuse in her marriage, both physical and mental, had driven her to do it and that's what the jury accepted after hearing all the evidence.

I can totally believe that a woman might agree to meet up with her rapist, especially if they were in a long standing relationship that was full of complex abuse. We all know how hard it can be for women in long term abusive relationships to fully disentangle themselves from their abuser.

Are we supposed to feel bad for the man that she'd finally been able to stop him from raping her, or are we supposed to think she deserved to be sexually attacked because it had happened before and she kept working there?

Where did I say that? They both appear to be in the wrong.
Of course she didn’t deserve it because it had happened multiple times, the point is why hasn’t she reported it before?

If someone repeatedly steals something from a shop what should the owner do? Chop the person’s hand off to stop them doing it again?

Um, physically attacking someone isn't the same as theft, ffs.

It is also utterly believable that the woman hadn't reported her boss before. In this sort of situation she might be in desperate need of the job, she might have issues with her immigration status (both are reported as Bangladeshi nationals, so there is that possibility). She may simply have been afraid of him and what he might do if she reported him. So many reasons why.

A woman is not in the wrong for defending herself from a rapist.

UhtredRagnarson · 03/06/2021 13:20

More victim blaming shite

Hmmmm i wonder. What reason's could there possibly be for a woman not reporting rape? Hmm

Soubriquet · 03/06/2021 14:34

She probably has reported it many times and it never went anywhere due to lack of evidence.

Based on the limited information we have from the media report I can imagine a few reasons why a Bangladeshi woman in Spain, working in the hospitality industry during a global pandemic which has decimated the hospitality industry may have had reasons to not report their boss.
