Next time the woke patrol at work try to force me to put "my pronouns" into my email signature I'm going to use one of these. I shall change it weekly and each one shall be more ridiculous than the last.

Yours sincerely,
Mash (ze/zir)

@ThatIsNotMyUsername

Is that for real?
Real, for a very small value of 'real'?
McDuffy · 13/02/2021 21:18

I too hope it quietly goes away.
I sometimes click on an amusing tweet to see if the author is worth following and immediately click off if they have pronouns in their bio. They wouldn't want me following them anyway.
They've crept in at my work a bit and I did push back (there was quite a long thread on here when someone mused I'd be fired Hmm I was not fired) but I'm going to have some fun with it if they try it. My company are Stonewalled to the max.

peak2021 · 13/02/2021 22:04

I/me/mine is surely the most appropriate answer? Or 'please call me by my name'?

NotFabulousDarling · 13/02/2021 23:07

So there's ze/zim/zir and xe/xim/xir right? But what are they replacing? And has anyone told this individual that, when you say these neopronouns out loud in front of your mirror "ze" and "xe"; "xim/zim" and "zir/xir" sound the same?
I mean, have they not noticed because "It's all about you accommodating me" so they haven't practiced saying everyone else's pronouns as well? Or have I just misunderstood and "ze" and "xe" are for the same person?
Or is "xe" pronounced like the French "je" in which case how will you know if you're talking to someone who is stunningly interesting and unique and different or if they're French which is probably more interesting by a country mile ?

NotFabulousDarling · 13/02/2021 23:08

Also I thought a neopronoun was what you wore when you went diving... Confused

NiceGerbil · 14/02/2021 02:04

I answered the survey on the basis that it was for anyone who didn't feel like a woman/ man 100% of the time.

I usually feel like a person.

The idea that the majority of people have a strong sense of internal gender id has never been demonstrated.

Xanthangum · 14/02/2021 02:31

One of the last questions is age, and the first option is '10 or under'.

womanity · 14/02/2021 02:58

I liked the bit also when you’re interacting with your way cooler than you friend you’ve to use their chosen pronouns, but not in front of other people unless you’ve their permission.

In one article that was linked recently, it was explained that the z- set were pronounced with an h sound, so zhe, and so on.

However, in this article I've just found, it explains that the ze set and xe set are supposed to be pronounced the same! I suppose that simplifies things.

PRONUNCIATION
Xe – pronounced like the ze pronoun – “zee”
Xir -“zir”
Xem -“zem”
Xeir – “zeir”
Xis – “zis”
Xyr – “zeir”
Xirself– “zirself”/”zeirself”

The minute I see pronouns in an email signature is the moment I realise that the person won't be suitable for the very fact-based job I'm hiring for. CV immediately goes in the bin. not sorry.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 14/02/2021 09:04

@ThatIsNotMyUsername

Is that for real?
The person I got it from said she saw it being shared on trans Twitter so I think it’s serious!
Kettlingur · 14/02/2021 10:16

@NiceGerbil

'"They/them/theirs" pronouns offer another way to refer to an individual without assuming their gender. They're so much cooler than I am, you might think, swooning over your quiet artist classmate.'

...!

Ahaha is this fan fiction?

What if you just don’t have one at all?
Exactly. Can I ask to be just referred to by name? Yours sincerely, Cathy.
Shiftctrlcmd · 14/02/2021 11:00

Xem -“zem”
Xeir – “zeir”
Xis – “zis”
Xyr – “zeir”

That's a rather pronounced German accent.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 14/02/2021 11:23

When very annoyed I describe myself thus...

“Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds”. Family know to run and hide.

Xanthangum · 14/02/2021 11:33

The minute I see pronouns in an email signature is the moment I realise that the person won't be suitable for the very fact-based job I'm hiring for. CV immediately goes in the bin.

This should be known more widely, especially by careers advisors, recruitment specialists and university tutors. Even just a 'we suggest you check, as your pronouns are equally as likely to disqualify your application as they are to delight your future employer'.

My only reservation about this approach is that I bet you get far more of these from women than men. 'Kind' useful idiots buying into their own oppression.
mumwon · 14/02/2021 11:38

dm use to say "don't call people she, he or her, him.Call them by their name"
so
Please refer to me by my name not by ANY pronoun
(thanks dm Grin)!

TheLaughingGenome · 14/02/2021 11:40

'"She" is the cat's mother'!

mumwon · 14/02/2021 11:47

@TheLaughingGenome dm started with her comment exactly that!
