www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/01/20/executive-order-preventing-and-combating-discrimination-on-basis-of-gender-identity-or-sexual-orientation/

“Children should be able to learn without worrying about whether they will be denied access to the restroom, the locker room, or school sports."

Biden just passed all the worst parts of the Equality Act by executive order (so without going through any legislation at all). It is limited in effect to agencies (I think) but those agencies include the Bureau of Prisons, Dept of Housing and Urban Development, Dept of Education, Dept of Labor etc

This will of course be unchallenged, even welcomed by the media. It will likely have a knock on effect around the world.

And I am so angry. So so angry. He was never the ‘least worst option’ he is the absolute worst option.

‘The trans issue’ that outweighs every other one.

It isn’t a ‘trans issue’. It’s a women’s rights issue.

More than a woman’s rights issue it is true last ever women’s rights issue there ever will be, unless the legal definition of women is protected.

I said this on the aibu thread and can’t be fucked repeating the glaring fucking obvious, but here goes.

If the legal definition of women is now who ever feels like it then ALL women’s rights are erased. Entirely erased.

If we can’t define what a women is by biological fact then we no longer have any way of measuring what women’s needs are, how the system is failing us, how we are being under represented, how disproportionately women are affected by austerity or poverty of violence or discrimination and so on. How do we measure the sex pay gap when women includes men? How do we advocate for women who are victims of make violence when women now includes men? How do we address our lesser representation at policy making level when all the makes making decisions about us can say they are women? Women won’t be under represented in STEM, because women now includes men. Women don’t face a glass ceiling or discrimination returning to work after maternity leave, because women now equals men.

Every single sex based rights protection women have is null and void when women now includes men.

This puts us back pre suffragettes. It’s worse than where they were then because at least they could identify women didn’t have the vote because they could identify who were women. They could meet and organise and voice their needs because they could do so as only women. After self id is established we won’t have the same chance to fight like the suffragettes did. We won’t be able to hold women only groups to discuss how to fight to gain our rights back, because we will be legally forced to let men in. Women will be very happy with self id because those women will be male. And we won’t be able to say anything against that. We have no way of voicing our collective needs because we won’t be able to collect voices that are only women’s.

We are erasing ourselves and our daughters and their daughters.

The idea this ‘trans issue’ is such a big deal to women will be a thing of the past. Because there will no longer be any women, because women will include men. We will be living as the oppressed sex class while being sold it makes us privileged. And there will be no way of us countering that.

There is no other issue. Because once this is done there are no more women. Except the 100% of women who can’t escape biological reality and can’t use our women only voice, because women = any man who feels like it.

We are dispersing our rights into thin air like vapour, and there’s no way to reclaim that ever.

👏👏👏 squeaky

highame · 23/01/2021 15:19

Squeaky absolutely. What occurs to me is that these changes being made under the radar mean that all obvious signs of our disappearance wont be mentioned, we will carry on thinking things are ok until suddenly a court case will come along and we'll realise all of our rights have disappeared and there will be nothing, nothing we can do. Even if we voted in another party, the capture of institutions would be so profound that it would be a pointless exercise.

Fight now or forever hold your peace

SqueakyCarrots · 23/01/2021 15:21

With regards to Biden doesn’t know what he’s done- of course he does.

This has nothing to do with trans rights ever. He isn’t supporting them, he’s dismantling us. He is every bit the misogynist as Trump. (And as all our mps).

The truth is women never really had rights. They told us we did. We swilled the lie that we had rights. That the law gave us protection. They ‘have’ us ‘equality’ so we would stop fighting for liberation. Because equality is just a useless construct that meets none of the needs that come with being a women in a patriarchal society. The powerless class doesn’t have rights unless the ruling class extends them to us, and they did, just so they could take them away again. If they can be taken so easily like we are nothing it’s because we never really had them in the first place. Yet we bought the lie we did and were placated with ‘equality’ so we would loose sight of the need for liberation.

When we ‘had’ rights only 6% of rapes were ever prosecuted. Crimes exclusively committed by men. Now victims don’t have the right to request a female doctor post rape, won’t have the right to request female police interviewer, can’t say that a man raped us. Well slash the 6% by another 100 at best. So 99.9% of rape never prosecuted, that’s no different in practice to making it legal. Of course Biden knows he’s doing that. Of course all male politicians know that’s the benefit of this. They aren’t stupid, we would be stupid to believe they are.

They granted us a few wiffs of rights and we got all uppity and thought they were really ours. They can’t have that. And making it a ‘trans rights’ issue plays into our sex role stereotype socialisation to be kind and put everyone else first.

There is nothing that isn’t strategic about this. Nothing that is accidental. And there’s no lesser evil here.

I really hope Janice Turner doesn’t read mn.

She’s an excellent writer. And brave for speaking up. But she hasn’t even got close to grasping the extent of this IMO. It’s much much worse than she shows it and we really need writers like her to illustrate the full impact now, before it happens, because there’s no way of doing so afterwards.

SqueakyCarrots · 23/01/2021 15:27

Does read mn.

Fuck I’m so exhausted I can’t keep up with my own typos

BitMuch · 23/01/2021 15:31

Biden has form for not respecting the boundaries and dignity of girls and women, such as how he behaves with the young daughters of senators, on national television:

Seconded. Great posts.

cyclingmad · 23/01/2021 16:18

@bitmuch

Biden doesn't have form for following any rules he is above reproach.

Not more than one day after signing mandate for masks to be worn on federal property he is seen maskless on federal property and when the press question it there is barely a response 🙄

Wath out for more hypocrisy coming from the new president. He does not give two hoots

UppityPuppity · 23/01/2021 16:25

And the media - they will let him get away with this.

100%. The (sexist bullshit) tweet below is from a write for The Atlantic, once one of America's foremost literary news magazines.
Biden has completely obliterated woman’s sex based protections as he said he would do.

@turnitonagain

For me, the trans issue outweighs every other issue.

Said no black Muslim or Hispanic American ever.

You're wrong. There are many black Muslim women and Hispanic American women who see that identity politics don't serve their interests and realise the TRAs are about stripping all women of their rights. The TRAs are about elevating white men. Only idiots think they will ever have women's interests at heart. At one fell swoop, Biden made every women's issue, a men's issue. Those who think abortion and women's healthcare are safe under him, haven't been paying attention to how the TRAs are already pushing back against women's healthcare. TRAs are an aggressive (in every sense) men's rights' movement.
SqueakyCarrots · 23/01/2021 16:56

Black Muslim women will be massively impacted by any man who feels like it allowed in single sex spaces.

Black Muslim women and Latina women and any woc and white women, straight bi or lesbian, young or old, able bodied or not, transmen and ‘non binary’ women, all of us have in common that it’s our sex that is used against us to oppress us by men.

The worlds oldest prejudice being sold to us as progress.

beargrass · 23/01/2021 17:09

How would anyone know if someone else is wearing a mask or not? If someone feelz they are, then they are.

HecatesCats · 23/01/2021 17:53

*Black Muslim women will be massively impacted by any man who feels like it allowed in single sex spaces.

And let's be clear the campaign in this country to persuade us that we are better off without our single sex spaces is as mendacious and manipulative as anything going on in the States. We have seen how they (as patriarchy has done for generations) attempt to divide and conquer. Only this week Stonewall upped its campaign of misogyny by using women against each other. It claimed, once again, that Butch Lesbians are being increasingly challenged in public toilets by women, as a result of, you've guessed it, women speaking out about their sex based rights. Turns out their case study is one of their employees (no matter, all's fair when you're trying to eradicate women as a sex class):

twitter.com/stonewalluk/status/1351478980315131906?s=21

We must not be complacent. It could happen here, but one of the benefits of catching a cold after America sneezes is that we can observe what happens when bad policy is implemented and we will have ample evidence to add to the mounting files that demonstrates why it is bad policy.

PotholeParadies · 23/01/2021 18:25

Their Associate Director of Policy and Research, according to the replies.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, public toilets have been closed all over the country, subjecting women to the urinary leash, especially women with birth injuries or disabilities affecting continence and urinary urgency. Where are these toilets in which we're supposed to be accosting short-haired women?

HecatesCats · 23/01/2021 18:44

Funny isn't it that it's women's push back against an all out assault on their sex based rights, including single sex spaces and the words they use to describe themselves, rather than the campaign to rob them of these things in the first place. No organisation does cynicism quite as well as Stonewall.

OptOutRE · 23/01/2021 19:01

I hadn’t seen that video of Biden before. It made me feel so uncomfortable - to watch those almost imperceptible efforts to edge away, put space between yourself and the person being ‘overly affectionate’. Stirred some unpleasant memories of being a child - actually, scrap that, of being a woman and been expected to not offend an old man or to doubt my own interpretation of someone’s ‘accidental’ hand position. Someone on the Twitter thread put it down to being an affectionate Catholic man and my blood actually ran cold. I actually can’t believe anything sinister of him and my first reaction is that it’s a stitch-up but something is not letting me be convinced. And what he’s done now he’s probably doing because he’s been listening to all the pleas to ‘protect trans children’ and he sees himself as some sort of kindly ‘Jesus-like’ figure. I was decidedly uncomfortable at how ‘God’ featured so much in his inauguration speech too. But I forget how ‘God-fearing’ America is supposed to be.

Sorry - stream of consciousness there - but I’m feeling so uneasy about what his Presidency will bring (has already brought!) You don’t have to do much to be an improvement on Trump - poor America, that’s such a low bar they’ve been set.

SunsetBeetch · 23/01/2021 19:19

Stonewall are never, ever going to stop pushing their shit, are they? And they'll use any dirty trick they can. They need to fuck off forever and ever.

SqueakyCarrots · 23/01/2021 19:26

There are accusations of sexual assault against him so fondling kids isn’t exactly out with what’s already public about his behaviour towards women

HecatesCats · 23/01/2021 19:30

Why did they decide to make a living out of dismissing and slurring women? It's so utterly disappointing.
