And would you vote for them, as a possible lesser evil?

I’m struggling

List MSP candidate - HH is standing in upcoming election

MissBarbary · 18/01/2021 19:04

@XDownwiththissortofthingX

Scotland does not have a deficit FFS
It absolutely does.
ArabellaScott · 18/01/2021 19:07

Given the current allegations against the FM and others in the govt, I am not sure what the state of play will be by the time we get to the election.

MissBarbary · 18/01/2021 19:12

I'm astonished at anyone thinking independence is a good idea at any time but how on earth do the separatists think Scotland would have got through Covid without access to UK funds?

As for "gender critical" - it doesn't remotely feature as far as I'm concerned. Any Unionist candidate is better than any separatist candidate.

HubertHerbert · 18/01/2021 19:26

Same way the UK got through it?

Borrowed

WouldBeGood · 18/01/2021 19:27

I’m not pro Indy. Pretty ambivalent and would want a lot lot more information first, but I don’t believe now is the time for this. I just want peace for a bit before the next uncertainty!

But I won’t vote SNP as is stands because I am a gc feminist. Nor for supporters of the Hate Crime Bill.

It’s a bugger this, isn’t it?

HubertHerbert · 18/01/2021 19:29

I think we're forgetting the significant GC faction within the SNP - Cherry, McAlpine etc. The overthrow of the woke in the recent NEC election. The SNP is split over this issue - there are battles being won within.

Labour are Labour. Lennon can do one after how she spoke before the forensic medical services amendment. Any 'opposition' to genderism within labour is pathetically milktoast

WouldBeGood · 18/01/2021 19:44

I’d be much more likely to vote SNP with Joanna Cherry in charge.

Monica Lennon, in the recent debate on Forensic Medical Services.:

'Like many MSPs, I have received correspondence over the past few days asking me to support amendment 28. Although much of the content of those emails is genuine and sincere, unfortunately, some of the emails are blatantly hostile towards trans women and the trans community. That is troubling, as is some of the narrative, abuse and trolling that I have seen on social media. Clearly there are some people who want to exclude trans women from working with women and girls who have disclosed rape or sexual assault.

Some people believe that amendment 28, which would replace the word “gender” with the word “sex”, will help to achieve that. They are of the view that such an amendment would prevent trans women from carrying out such examinations. However, that is not correct because, by law, a trans woman who holds a gender recognition certificate is legally of the female sex.'

WouldBeGood · 18/01/2021 19:51

I will never vote for Monica Lennon

Odd that someone with a gender certificate can change their sex. If I gets me a sex certificate, can I change my gender?
ArabellaScott · 18/01/2021 20:52

In all honesty, Default, I don't know the answer to that.

What bothered me most was 'some of the emails are blatantly hostile towards trans women and the trans community. That is troubling, as is some of the narrative, abuse and trolling that I have seen on social media. Yes, there are people who wish to exclude male-born people from examining women and girls who have specifically requested a female examiner. (Sentence in bold a crucial qualifier Lennon has conveniently overlooked). Many, if not most of these women (let's be clear, these are women) are survivors of male violence/abuse. That she conflates this wish with hostility, abuse and trolling is absolutely despicable, frankly.

fatblackcatspaw · 18/01/2021 21:02

Joanna Lamont? I cannot vote for Lennon she is VILE. Richard Leonard was full TWAW. I need to look at the voting for Edinburgh East but responses to women's issues woefully bad here apart from the Tories getting back to me re Hates Crimes and the Forensic Medicine Bill. Labour needs to firmly come out behind woman before I'll vote for them. And I'm currently a member!

fatblackcatspaw · 18/01/2021 21:05

I adore Joanna Cherry I'd vote for HER. But I'm not sure she's standing in the Scottish Parliament elections? Angus Robertson ... huh grew up near me. I think he was good on foreign affairs but somewhat untrustworthy.

WouldBeGood · 18/01/2021 21:06

@fatblackcatspaw she’s not as the then NEC made a rule to stop her

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 18/01/2021 21:08

Johann Lamont is retiring, I think

OP posts:
fatblackcatspaw · 18/01/2021 21:11

@WouldBeGood

Johann Lamont is retiring, I think
damn.... any other good labour women?

BTW I'm such a fan of Joanna - she comes over as really knowing her stuff. I was demonstrating outside the Court of Session over the Progrogation cases and she came over just WELL. Joylon obvs laps up attention. I'd vote for Joanna if she stood for the Monster Raving Looney Party. I saw her in Stockbridge a last year and had to restrain myself from throwing myself at her feet in an unseemly fangirl way. If only we could get her to defect to Labour!

ArabellaScott · 18/01/2021 21:20

The SNP changed the law to make it impossible for Joanna Cherry to stand.

WouldBeGood · 18/01/2021 21:22

Yes @fatblackcatspaw a defection would seal it for me!

OP posts:
fatblackcatspaw · 18/01/2021 21:24

lets start a Joanna for Scottish Labour leadership campaign ! we should be chalking the streets ... at least she has a bit actual name recognition for the public!

WouldBeGood · 18/01/2021 21:26

Yes, I’m in!

OP posts:
fatblackcatspaw · 18/01/2021 21:27

we need stickers and badges!

BlackForestCake · 18/01/2021 21:32

Joanna Cherry is not going to defect to Labour any more than Jacob Rees-Mogg is. She is on the wing of the SNP that thinks Sturgeon is not pushing hard enough for independence.

WouldBeGood · 18/01/2021 21:37

I know @BlackForestCake just a light hearted dream

I met her in the wee Sainsbury’s next to her office and went up to her to say thanks for supporting women

She got a right fright off me. I think she was afraid. So sad that a female politician has to feel afraid

But was good in the end. As we had a chit chat. My kids were running about so hope she thought that violent people don’t take their kids on a spree

Much as I like her I can’t vote snp to split up my country
