The cognative dissonance of Lorraine

I'm sick of the daytime chat shows giving trans ideology a free uncritical pass and now Eddy Izzard has 'come out' as a woman he has become an advocate of the junkscience bullshit:
I do all the dramatic roles in 'boy mode'..because I'm gender fluid..when I did [Portrait] .. I was in 'girl mode'
This is nodded through by Lorraine.
We are getting closer and closer to working out the genetic thing in transgender, and that is going to help humanity .. with no research or evidence offered of course.

We are all girls as a foetus Eddy explains, . some of us get coded boys, ..Testes and oaries are the same thing but they get 'coded' different ways..

..People..Stop being so obsessed about this and back off says Eddy suddenly - probably in boy mode?

Yes tell your own truth and be kind surely that is more important than shoving a label on because it doesn't really matter says a simpering Lorrine throwing away women's rights through gritted teeth and narrowing eyes (just freezeframe her face when she has to say that, she looks uncomfortable saying it, probably in keeping her job mode).

Your a fantastic woman and a fantastic human being, says Lorraine dropping the "w" word at the end of the interview.
Thank you for being so supportive it's great that your there says Eddy emotionally. They both get emosh and there are nearly tears (because they are both women!) but I felt that underlying it Lorraine was uncomfortable in this whole performance.

Oh it was excruciatingly awful...when he was mansplaining and Lorraine was telling him how great he was...

ClaireP20 · 07/01/2021 11:15

I supppose, when he said "stop being so obsessed about this, we are all human beings, we need to make it work." He actually meant "you women need to make it work..."

VVKills27 · 07/01/2021 11:22

I’ve always thought that Lorraine says whatever she thinks will keep her at the top of her profession, however disingenuous this may be. I honestly don’t know what she truly thinks about anything other than ‘oh for sure, absolutely, spot on for sure’!

MoltenLasagne · 07/01/2021 11:25

No wonder science literacy in this country is going down the pan when we have people stating things like testes and ovaries are the same things but coded differently without any challenge. By that measure dogs and cats are the same thing but coded differently, or apples and oranges.

Clymene · 07/01/2021 11:28

I've always thought she's a bit thick

I agree, and I suppose you can blame her. However it seems to be across the board...the panel on Loose Women are the same. The most in depth they get is talking about 'kitchen storage hacks'. What you need is women who aren't afraid to speak their minds...but of course when they do, they aren't afforded any protection from the powers that be.

Gritting teeth and narrowing eyes? I had Lorraine on this morning and she was doing nothing of the sort, just nodding along!
How about she might, just might, have a different opinion to others on this board ?
Why make out everyone thinks the same or put an "angry spin" on something to fit a narrative

sleepyhead · 07/01/2021 11:44

Lorraine isn't thick, but she is ruthlessly efficient about her career and knows exactly what she can an cannot say.

This is a no-brainer for her. Very little for her to lose by boosting Eddie, except the respect of some women who she will have assessed as likely not being her audience, or in a position of influence, and therefore not important.

She may, or may not, swallow the trans "science", doesn't matter to her. Be Kind plays best for her at the moment.

Seasaltyhair · 07/01/2021 11:46

Yep. I turned it off.

Girl mode? Boak.

He looks like a drunk sailer on a stag do dressed up in drag

RickiTarr · 07/01/2021 11:46

This is nodded through by Lorraine.

To be fair, there isn’t much she wouldn’t enthusiastically bob her wee little head at. Not much in the way of critical faculties in there.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 07/01/2021 11:53

Agree sleepy. Lorraine Kelly is 61 - given the well known age bias against older women presenters, the fact that she has continued to be successful & not consigned to the usual “too old” scrap heap shows she’s a lot smarter than she portrays herself

As someone else said, there’s no benefit to her in not nodding along with Eddie. Her personal views whatever they are will be irrelevant as to whether she thinks it will help her career continue to be successful

HandsOffMyRights · 07/01/2021 11:54

I watch Lorraine now and then, but previously she has fawned over an American drag artist/entertainment reporter who appears regularly near the end of the show to talk about Hollywood.

Usually revolves around how "amazing" said drag artist looks, with Lorraine falling over herself to compliment him on his hair or makeup.

It's uncomfortable watching Lorraine do this and it feels disingenuous. When the segment has appeared since, I've turned off the show.

CranberriesChoccyAgain · 07/01/2021 12:04

I've never really seen talk show hosts as having their own opinions and input into the topics being presented. They're just facilitators. Has Lorraine ever been confrontational with a guest? Isn't she normally neutral-positive?

Has ITV been stonewalled? If so, she probably doesn't have much choice but to nod along.

MadamBatty · 07/01/2021 12:05

Lorraine reminds me of Victoria Wood sketches Brain Dead TV. She’s excruciating.

NotBadConsidering · 07/01/2021 12:06

I think it would be great if there was a genetic test for transgender. Firstly it would be a huge scientific breakthrough and a major event in genetic history to explain the sudden genetic shift that happened at the beginning of the 21st century accounting for the huge explosion in teenage girls identifying as trans in the last 5 years or so. Never in human history has such a swift genetic evolutionary change happened, so some investigation and breakthrough on that would be truly extraordinary. If only someone would take it upon themselves to investigate why so many teenage girls are now identifying as trans, perhaps we might get some genetic research out of it, but alas, no one seems interested at any of the gender clinics worldwide. Maybe Eddie could fund this by running marathons?

Second, it would clarify the exact nature of who is trans and who isn’t in terms of middle-aged males, which I’m sure trans activists would agree is something they can all get behind, because then no one would have to even bother with self ID, just have the test!

So I’m with Eddie on this one. Although I can’t see a mad rush of a queue forming if it becomes available...

highame · 07/01/2021 12:10

I doubt very much that ITV has been stonewalled. I hope eventually a bit of tolerance kicks in because I'm just a bit sick of the nastiness. Make a point but make it well.

burnoutbabe · 07/01/2021 12:10

Lorraine did refer to Eddie as him in the opening intro then suddenly switched later on (soneone Had had a word)

Eddie said he didn't mind which was used.

Is he us saying he is a woman? Or just in girl mode? We'd address drag queens as she when presenting as such (and him if they appear out of drag)

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 07/01/2021 12:12

I just read an article about this interview. Never have I been so disappointed by anyone as I am by Eddie jumping on the bandwagon.

I used to have such massive respect for Eddie and now I can barely even bear to look at Eddie.

sleepyhead · 07/01/2021 12:14

Lorraine is absolutely selectively confrontational. Very rarely, and does it extremely well - it seems completely unscripted and yet never receives any negative publicity from it as she manages to seem brave but completely parrots the popular view (so actually completely uncontroversial) - c.f. Jennifer Arcuri.

She only monsters clearly unpopular people though, and only when they have no power to get her into bother.

ClaireP20 · 07/01/2021 12:15

TodgerStrunk · 07/01/2021 12:23

Makes me totally understand the tax dodge claim that's she's the "character" Lorraine on tv and not the actual Lorraine.

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 07/01/2021 14:14

She may, or may not, swallow the trans "science", doesn't matter to her. Be Kind plays best for her at the moment.

You do feel like Lorraine is being used as an example of how women should react when a man comes out as trans, the be kind narrative is being rewarded.

Sheleg · 07/01/2021 14:20

How can there be a genetic component? Is there a gene that can make someone identify with a stereotype, or hate the body they were born with? Seems like cod-science.

BraveBananaBadge · 07/01/2021 14:50

Oh Eddie. This is just gaslighting and it’s so unpleasant to see. I appreciate Eddie constantly stresses the pronoun thing is ‘not a demand’ and has their head on straight enough to understand where JKR is coming from. But then these sort of displays are just nonsensical, and the Twitter nitwits bollocking on about misgendering are unbearable.

That ‘boy mode’ suffices for Eddie’s serious dramatic work says it all. When Lorraine fancies a change from morning TV she could do the voiceover for the Two Minute Hate.

Greencoatblue · 07/01/2021 15:03

Didn't see the program, but he in all seriousness said testes and ovaries are the same thing, just differently coded? That will be like your ears and eyes, nose and mouth are all the same then, just differently coded. They're all sensory organs, just be glad nature didn't mess up and code one of your ears like a nose!
