It's called Welcome to the Woke Trials and was due to be published in 2021.
I'm not sure who the publisher is; I'll update.
She says: "Reason was 'hate speech' to Ash Sarkar and 'crossing a line' - 'There was also a concern that the line might be crossed again during the promotion of the book.' I'LL SAY!"

The Ash Sarkar thing was trending yesterday. Ash criticised a male journalist for making ?a joke? about fancying school girls. Not sure what this had to do with Julie other than being published in the same places.

But JB replied to Ash referring to Mohammed.

This was widely considered as JB trying to get publicity for the new book.

Malahaha · 15/12/2020 16:18

In short, a book about cancel culture has been cancelled. Oh, the irony!

I’m not a fan of Ash’s but the tweets to her weren’t something of which JB should be proud. Widely regarded as inappropriate to bring the fact someone’s religion in.

Passmeabottlemrjones · 15/12/2020 16:28

Someone dug up an old Rod Liddle article for The Spectator where he said the only reason he didn't become a teacher was because he wouldn't be able to stop himself sagging the pupils.

Ash Sarkar called it out on Twitter.

Julie Burchill started Tweeting Ash asking about the age of Mohammed's first wife and calling her a hypocrite.

It was all a bit bizarre. I literally cannot stand Ash Sarkar but she comes in for a lot of shit on Twitter and I did think the stuff from Julie Burchill was bizarre and uncalled for. It was like there was a back story or something.

Maybe it is a publicity stunt? I don't think JB is covering herself in glory right now though.

Only Julie Burchill could manage that. Grin I'm sure she will deal with it in her usual inimitable way.
Passmeabottlemrjones · 15/12/2020 16:29

That should say 'sagging' not sagging!

Passmeabottlemrjones · 15/12/2020 16:30

Shagging!

One wonders.

tiredqueen · 15/12/2020 16:32

Well I don't even know who JB is but I'm sure going to look now!

midlifecrash · 15/12/2020 16:34

attack on Ash Sarkar (who I have no time for) was horrible, and made no sense at all (equivalent would be "oh you're having a go at someone for being violent? Remind me who it was that overturned the stalls of the money lenders and chased them out of the temple?"). JB used to be mates with Suzanne Moore back in the day, I think she'd like some of the attention SM has had lately (although SM did not want it).

She was great at iconoclastic short form til she ate her own tail. I’ve had the misfortune of reading some of her longer work and so doubt the world is missing out on masterpiece. She can always self- publish it if she’s got owt pressing to say.

RoyalCorgi · 15/12/2020 16:37

Nobody comes out of this really well. Liddle's article (published in 2012) is no doubt supposed to be funny, but isn't. He makes a joke about how he decided not to become a teacher because he wouldn't have been able to stop himself shagging the students. He says he wouldn't have gone much below year 10. Utterly hilarious.

When Sarkar tweeted the link to the Liddle article in her usual tone of moral outrage, Julie then made the remark about Mohammed's underage wife. She then made it worse by claiming that Sarkar "worshipped" the prophet, which is very much a no-no in Islam.

Then all the wokesters got terribly offended about how Islamophobic Julie was.

It concluded with her publisher cancelling the book.

Islamphobia, not transphobia.
Imnobody4 · 15/12/2020 16:42

The publisher is Hatchette.
Hachette UK aims to be the publisher and employer of choice for all people, regardless of age, faith, disability, race, gender, sexuality or socio-economic background.

Sex doesn't apparently count.

midlifecrash · 15/12/2020 16:44

don't think JB's sex is of any relevance here

Pan2 · 15/12/2020 16:53

Weird JB coming to Rod Liddle's 'defence'.

OR...it was just useful for JB to cynically use her islamophobia for self-promotion purposes.

Also strange that other journos haven't condemned JB for her words.

GroundAlmonds · 15/12/2020 16:56

Who would involve themselves in a hyperbolic dot between Ash & Julie? C’mon. They both made their names being provocative. They’ll live.

Hayeahnobut · 15/12/2020 16:57

Her book contract has been cancelled due to her Islamophobic comments. If you're defending her, you need to take a good look at yourself.

Malahaha · 15/12/2020 17:00

I really don't like the way Julie is so militantly anti-Islam on her FB account. I don't know the details of this. I never heard of Ash Sarkar before. I didn't follow the Twitter thing. I was looking forward to the book, though.

You're right. I should have gone into it more thoroughly. I had no idea who Ash Sarkar is so jumped to conclusions.

Pan2 · 15/12/2020 17:05

I don't know Ash at all well, but am aware of the years of Liddle.

I'm indicating that expressed islamophobia appears to be okay in these circles.

Of course you're right though - without the unpleasantness of islamophobia, I'd imaging no-one would want to get involved. Just build a small pit somewhere and let them get on with it.

Kit19 · 15/12/2020 17:05

JB behaved appallingly. Im not Ash Sarker's biggest fan either but JB had no reason at all to start on at her about Islam

WiseOwlWan · 15/12/2020 17:05

You must be so young!!
OneEpisode · 15/12/2020 17:08

Did anything happen to Rod Little?

WomanWithAnX · 15/12/2020 17:21

Julie needs to apologize for this. It was crass, goady, and childish.
