Our investigation has identified serious failings in leadership and an inadequate process for handling antisemitism complaints across the Labour Party, and we have identified multiple failures in the systems it uses to resolve them. We have concluded that there were unlawful acts of harassment and discrimination for which the Labour Party is responsible.

What's this got to do with feminism?

bellinisurge · 29/10/2020 10:17

So remind me again, as a Jewish descent woman, why didn't I vote Labour?

FindTheTruth · 29/10/2020 10:23

It's a good point and I didn't wonder myself - MNHQ might want to move it. I posted in FWR anyway, given:
  1. misogyny towards Luciana Berger and others
  2. that groups, including feminists, in the labour party get cancelled for defending their rights.

I think it's reasonable to infer that a party capable of "unlawful acts of harassment and discrimination" against one group of people (the Jewish community) might also have vile attitudes towards other groups too.

Like women.

bellinisurge · 29/10/2020 10:26

The vileness shown to Luciana Berger at the launch of the Chakrabati "report " (which Corbyn let carry on and didn't shout down ) tells you all you need to know about what Corbyn's Labour thought about Jewish women.

FindTheTruth · 29/10/2020 11:05

Feminisim includes defending sex-based rights. sex is one of the 9 protected characteristics under the EA.

EHRC in this report:
Most political parties are considered associations under the Equality Act 2010. This means that, by law, they must not discriminate against, harass or victimise members, associates, guests, or those wanting to become members, on the basis of a number of protected characteristics

across all parties against anyone standing up for women's sex-based rights, jewish rights or any right under the EA, are facing calls to get the whip withdrawn (Rosie Duffield, Kevin Price), or hounded out of their job (Luciana Burger)

We could do with a similar investigation into misogyny in the labours party and EHRC

wellbehavedwomen · 29/10/2020 11:33

Labour are a fundamentally bigoted and hateful party now. As a lifelong Labour supporter, I find that heartbreaking. This report is simply a nail in that coffin.

bellinisurge · 29/10/2020 12:14

Please god they will withdraw the whip from Corbyn after his response to the report.

Hooray!

hesaidshesaidwhat · 29/10/2020 13:35

Great re Corbyn. Next step is for them to address and confirm their understanding of the definition of 'woman' so that we know if they are worth voting for.

Aesopfable · 29/10/2020 13:38

@FindTheTruth

Jeremy Corbyn suspended from Labour Party
Wow

”The EHRC said the party's complaints process was inconsistent and lacking in transparency", with the email inbox "largely left unmonitored for a number of years" and "no action taken on the majority of complaints forwarded to it".”

RedDogsBeg · 29/10/2020 13:51

Good news that JC has been suspended, it had to be done after KS's unequivocal statement though.

Now wouldn't it be lovely if the Labour Party would do the same for women who are being mercilessly bullied and forced out of the party due to the TRA agenda and ideology - I won't hold my breath.

Cwenthryth · 29/10/2020 13:51
Shock

Glad this thread is here in FWR even if it isn’t a feminism specific thing; I want to chat with the wise women here about it. Couldn’t believe it when I just saw the newsflash.

Who would take that decision to suspend JC? Starmer? Someone else? More than one person?

RedDogsBeg · 29/10/2020 13:54

Sorry my post was badly worded, I meant wouldn't it be lovely if similar action was taken against those who are mercilessly bullying women for non compliance to the TRA agenda and ideology. I somehow doubt that the EHRC would be the slightest bit interested in investigating that.

FindTheTruth · 29/10/2020 13:59

100% agree redDogs. Rosie Duffield is trending as activists say it's unfair JC suspended and not her

OP posts:
Cwenthryth · 29/10/2020 14:02

Yeah, so unfair, he presided over and facilitated an entire system of discrimination against Jewish members and she......has a different opinion from some trans people.....it’s totally the same thing Hmm

Aesopfable · 29/10/2020 14:06

That quote about the complaints inbox - which I took to mean all complaints not just about antisemitism - shows the true extent of the problem though. The Labour Party has been turning a blind eye to bad behaviour for years and has allowed a toxic culture to develop.

hellotoday27 · 29/10/2020 14:08

Very pleased with this news and shows Starmer has a bit of a backbone. I'm hoping his reasoning is to deal with one major issue at a time and he will move onto the mysogyny issues next (not fighting too many fires at once). Both issues have a lot in common.

MsSafina · 29/10/2020 14:24

Could they please suspend Shami Chakrabarti too who presided over a cover up.
