I bloody love this woman. Frankly, the BBC don't deserve her.

Thought Emma Barnett had been chosen?

KarenCaron · 03/10/2020 16:25

Yes it is Emma Barnett.

I love Jenni, she needs her own channel, same as Andrew Neil. Stop paying the licence fee for the BBC and leave it to the woke to fund.

HecatesHat · 03/10/2020 17:06

Emma Barnet's a good choice, but she'll face the same constraints from the work brigade. It's a toothless programme.

Abitofalark · 03/10/2020 17:20

The Mail's media editor wrote an article about Jenni's article:

"Dame Jenni, who will be writing a regular column for the Mail starting next week, was ‘shocked’ by the BBC’s response after she wrote an article about trans issues, which led to her receiving violent threats.
She reveals she was ‘roundly ticked off publicly’ and told she could not chair any discussions ‘on the trans question’.
Dame Jenni says that her article had ‘merely asked’ trans activists to acknowledge the difference between sex and gender, and ‘respect our right to safe single-sex spaces’ as well as drop the ‘nonsensical’ description of ‘cis women’."

Ruddy love her 👏

Can’t believe I’m going to be checking out a column in the Mail but here we are!

Woke 🙄

Yep - and not other newspapers I used to trust. Stop the world, I want to get off!

The mail, while writing some awful articles, also publishes some excellent ones. The BBC has treated Jenni appallingly in both poor sexist pay and by gagging her. I'm looking forward to her column.

Thanks for the heads up about Times radio too.

ListeningQuietly · 03/10/2020 17:53

If Jenni is allowed to say what she likes in the Mail then she will be able to start the worm turning in the US and Canada
excellent

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 03/10/2020 18:16

@LouHotel
I imagine her leaving the studio to get home, having a stiff sherry and thinking ''right you fuckers, game time!''
Late to the party, but a proper LOL at that.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/10/2020 18:41

I’ve been having a listen to Times Radio (Hugo Rifkind chatting to Archie from Balamory). Great stuff. Line up definitely needs a Jenni Murray though. And possibly a Libby Purves too if they can find one. And maybe a touch of Samira Ahmed?
You could do an amazing line up from the much loved women that have been let go.

Where's the like button when you need one?

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 03/10/2020 20:29

Samira Ahmed is still there, on Front Row at least.

PigeonToe · 03/10/2020 21:34

Slightly off-topic, but I always get the impression that Radio 4 treats Mumsnet with slight contempt and would rather pretend it didn't exist.

But judging by the discussion on here, we're all Radio 4's exact target audience and loads of us have given it a lot of time and emotional investment. And yet off they go chasing the woke brigade who won't ever listen to them anyway. It's nuts

peanut2017 · 03/10/2020 22:12

Good for her - tell it like it is

rosiethehen · 03/10/2020 22:18

The BBC is rotten through and through. Their sad descent into mediocrity continues. Their days are numbered though and they'll all be unceremoniously thrown out of the trough.

Jenni Murray will have a good future somewhere that appreciates her.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 04/10/2020 08:12

I'm exactly the sort of person who would listen to R4, and I used to, a lot. I've listened less and less over the last 4 years or so which saddens me as it used to be a pretty reliable source of entertainment and information when doing the decorating or whatever.

Now I find myself reaching for the off button with 'God, no, not that again!' or 'ASK him! Bloody ASK him a proper question, not let him get away with such bollocks!'

I tuned in to listen to BBC Women's Hour yesterday as I noticed they were reporting on the Keira Bell case.

What a disappointment - it was clear the two female journalist & presenter were terrified of saying the wrong thing. The conclusion they presented was that the verdict would be appealed because lots of people and children's charities are upset. There was very little balance. Shame on you yet again Women's Hour. I'm sticking with my decision to give up the show as I can't be doing with the blood pressure.
