I bloody love this woman. Frankly, the BBC don't deserve her.

Her voice is pure delight. Her salary a disgrace. No, the BBC really didn’t deserve her! Such a loss for so many women.

Cwenthryth · 03/10/2020 09:12

We - women - haven’t lost her though. She’s left the BBC in order to be able to speak and act freely, in solidarity with us.

TastelessBracelets · 03/10/2020 09:18

That was a fantastic article.

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/10/2020 09:21

Cwenthryth
I meant from R4. A familiar voice and a gc voice in the bbc, which is much needed. You’re right though.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/10/2020 09:27

I reckon the new WH lot should ask her on regularly as an expert on women's issues, so she could say what she really thinks. (Whether she'd want to take part I don't know).

AbsintheFriends · 03/10/2020 09:31

The combination of the BBC's disgraceful pay gap and their gagging Dame Jenni from talking about how the biological fact of being female shapes women's lives and their place in society is particularly fucking disturbing behaviour from the 'national broadcaster'.

The BBC are less of an Auntie figure and more Big Brother every day. Thank god she's unmuzzled now.

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 03/10/2020 09:43

She has wasted no time and I hope she continues in this vein. Fantastic article.

Jane Garvey is doing an interview series next I think. I really want either JM or JKR to feature.

carefulvulvadriver · 03/10/2020 09:49

What a brilliant woman. I haven’t been able to listen to the last show in full as I didn’t think I could handle the sadness - been listening to Jenni on WH since my early 20s and she’s felt like a maternal aunt cutting through the bullshit of life. But I will listen back now in the secure knowledge she’s not left, she’s just escaped and she’s here to speak for us even louder now. If you’re on this board, thank you so much Jenni

@GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman

Great article except for the 'assigned at birth' bollocks. Sex is not assigned, it is observed.

Or is 'assigned' another word that has had its meaning changed?

I noticed this too. The idea that we stick with the sex we've been assigned rather than change it is odd.

I wonder if "assigned" is something she had to say before so hasn't realised she's actually saying it - brainwashing worked on that word?? She obviously knows sex isn't picked out of thin air, or from a hat, and assigned to babies!

caughtalightsneeze · 03/10/2020 10:00

That's a fantastic piece.

The comments below are rather depressing. Particularly the man who believes that medical inequality affects men, as women are apparently favoured in medicine. Hmm

Yes, I'm sure it's the only acceptable phrase in the BBC and she's picked it up.
Come here for a spot of deprogramming, Jenni!Grin

Cwenthryth · 03/10/2020 10:13

I used to listen to R4 every day - Today, Woman’s Hour, PM, and Today in Parliament.

Almost never now. Times radio or LBC, podcasts (need to find better/more feminist podcasts tho).

BuffaloCauliflower · 03/10/2020 10:16

@LizzieSiddal

So she’s been earning under 100K until recently?? - she should sue the fucking pants off them!

They really don’t deserve her. And she was issued with a warning for taking about Brexit whilst Andrew Neil and Gary Lineker talk about this issue constantly in their Twitter feeds.

Again, she should sue them for Sex Discrimination.

Yes I can’t believe she was earning so little (in relation to other presenters on the BBC) I know objectively this is a large amount, as clearly she thought too which is why she didn’t challenge it for so long. Disgraceful considering her standing.
RozWatching · 03/10/2020 10:18

Brava, Jenni Brew
RIP Woman's Hour

DimityandDeNimes · 03/10/2020 10:19

Thanks for sharing that fabulous article.

Does anyone know what Emma Barnett was paid for her Radio 5 Live show and what her salary for WH will be?

Theluggage15 · 03/10/2020 10:25

Emma Barnett is on about £260k at the moment. Not sure what she’ll get for Woman’s Hour

Galvantula · 03/10/2020 10:31

I almost had a wee tear in my eye reading that. [Flowers] She's awesome.

Must actually finish reading "that's my boy" one day Blush

LouHotel · 03/10/2020 10:36

She is not wasting anytime, I imagine her leaving the studio to get home, having a stiff sherry and thinking ''right you fuckers, game time!'' Before opening her laptop with a flourish.

MsTSwift · 03/10/2020 10:39

Why is she not in charge of the country instead of the prat we have? She would have everything sorted by Christmas

ArabellaScott · 03/10/2020 10:41

Yes, Jenni. Thank you.

mizu · 03/10/2020 10:47

Brilliant. I've sent this on to my daughters, sister and my mum.

TheBitterBoy · 03/10/2020 10:58

Love it! Exactly what I was thinking.

KatVonlabonk · 03/10/2020 11:01

She should sue the fuckers

Beamur · 03/10/2020 11:15

Looking forward to what she does next!

CaraDuneRedux · 03/10/2020 11:22

For anyone who hasn't yet cancelled their audible subscription and still has credits to use up, I can thoroughly recommend her reading her own book, A History of Britain in 21 Women. Fabulous.

I will miss her on the BBC, but looking forward to seeing where she goes next.
