@vivariumvivariumsvivaria

I have a friend who's kid is now on cross sex hormones, Knights.

She's thinking EXACTLY that.

I am very sad for her, her kid and all the parents in the transparent group she works so hard in. They've all been conned.

Sad
SerenityNowwwww · 24/09/2020 21:08

So the kids who have been swept along - who is picking up the pieces? Their parents will be in the firing line.

Siablue · 24/09/2020 21:09

This is good news. Such sensible guidance no reasonable person could argue with it. Mermaids response is funny. Without the homophobia and sexism they don’t have anything left.

To whoever was concerned about their child’s school using resources from GRIES. There is a thread about them here where they claimed that gender reassignment cured autism. That alone should give any teacher cause for concern.

@PronounssheRa

There is a recording of a mermaids training session which was transcribed by some on here. Does anyone remember if that thread survived because it might need archiving

Back in Feb, Memaids were busy telling “me” (thinking I was a 14 year old) that school didn’t need to tell my parents if I wanted to change my name/pronouns etc. I wonder what their chat line would say now...

Massive massive relief.

Antibles · 24/09/2020 21:25

Woo hoo!

Blimey what a week.

THANK YOU to everyone involved in this. Star Star Star

yourhairiswinterfire · 24/09/2020 21:26

What has really boiled my piss is that women have been threatened, harassed, doxed, deplatformed and have lost their jobs for saying NOTHING different to what Liz Truss and Mermaids have said today.

And a couple of the main culprits who we're apparently not allowed to name now, SUPPORTED Liz Truss's statement, whilst demonizing JKR for saying the same thing Hmm

A lot of people have a lot to answer for.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/09/2020 21:27

This is just brilliant!

Helluva lotta No Outsiders lessons trans won't fit under this guidance.

PronounssheRa · 24/09/2020 21:29

ItsAllGoingToBeFine

I've got a copy of the transcript saved just in case that thread gets targeted.

I had forgotten how awful it was

S: Because her brain jelly baby and her biology jelly baby are in alignment

A1: Yeah, I don't really buy the jelly baby

TERF Wars: A New Hope!

ErrolTheDragon · 24/09/2020 21:36

Mermaids have always been at war with Eastasia....

But, leaving that sideshow to fester, this is so good. I'm even more pleased by this than the GRA news tbh.

sultanasofa · 24/09/2020 21:36

So do we think that Mermaids had advance knowledge that this was coming?

To do such a massive volte face today seems very rapid. Such a big change of direction would require careful consideration before going public. And there have been signs over recent weeks of subtle changes in their messaging. At the time it seemed to be a response to changed NHS guidance on puberty blockers, but maybe they knew what else was round the corner?

Gotta hand it to the Tories. They haven't just attacked this hydra on one of its heads. They're simultaneously going for all of them. Fabulous news and well done to every one of us and all the other fantastic women out there who made it happen.

2fallsagain · 24/09/2020 21:37

SSAUK here. As usual, a bit late to the MN party! Its been quite a day.

We are delighted with his guidance and so glad someone if government finally started listening to us (or were they perhaps concerned about the potential of being taken to the high court by a teenager, given teenagers have shown they are prepared to do fight for their rights on this).

Our statement, in Twitter form, is here: twitter.com/SafeSchools_UK/status/1309170056442544129?s=20

We do want to stress though that parents will need to work to make sure schools are following this guidance. The fight isn't over yet but this is a great start.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/09/2020 21:39

Thank fuck this book is now too stereotypical and "wrong bodyesque."

www.yourstoriesmatter.org/books/this-is-me

Most sexist pile of rubbish I've ever seen!

JamieLeeCurtains · 24/09/2020 21:39

That Liz Truss fought the hydra despite Johnson being her boss is very impressive.

2fallsagain · 24/09/2020 21:39

Sultan, I am sure they must have had wind of it. They couldn't have put a statement out like that so quickly. It takes time in an organisation like that to formulate a position, response etc. They came back too quickly for them not to have known.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/09/2020 21:40

Ooooh is this why the bbc have been distancing them selves from mermaids?

jj1968 · 24/09/2020 21:41

@persistentwoman

That no groups or materials from groups must be used in schools without due diligence and considerable checks and balances including checking their online presence. There are (quite rightly given some of the recent awful materials that have been produced for schools) major warnings for schools about using external organisations and materials.

Beyond checking the credentials of organisations the guidelines don't really say much about what materials should be used as long as they are age appropriate. Given that the guidelines means schools have to teach about LGBT relationships then that is going to mean talking about how LGBT people have sex surely? So I don't think much will change there.

Some of the stuff about external agencies is a bit troubling, although not from a trans perspective, such as this: "selecting and presenting information to make unsubstantiated accusations against state institutions." This could apply to all kinds of groups, including Feminist ones and is pretty chilling.

LiterallyProblematic · 24/09/2020 21:42

This is absolutely brilliant.
Mermaids are fucked. Surely.

FleetsumNJetsum · 24/09/2020 21:48

Yes Neuro, all falling into place re: BBC and Mermaids

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 24/09/2020 21:49

It's all encouraging. I shall check dd's secondary school's SRE stuff to see if it's 'problematic'.

MichelleofzeResistance · 24/09/2020 21:50

2falls and SSAUK, cracking statement there. All the key elements nailed, very practical.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/09/2020 21:52

I was mightily glad to see the No Outsiders poster quietly disappear during lockdown via our new head teacher.
Their RSE policy looked good too and emphasised strict control over outside delivery.
